Getting Involved One Step At A Time
Yesterday I went to my very first meeting for the Wexner Center of the Arts' Student Council. I was really, really excited because I fell in love with the Wexner Center last year as a freshman. The Wexner Center is pretty much a haven for us artsy types; those who rather watch a foreign film with subtitles or see an obscure band play an once in a lifetime set as a opposed to say, going dancing (although I do enjoy showcasing my talents in that arena from time to time) on a Friday night. As members of the Student Council for the WC, we serve as a liaison between students and the actual center, giving ideas to spread awareness of the many things that the WC has to offer. We also sometimes can get a sneak peek at the coming attractions ranging from dance to music, and get tickets (when possible) out of the deal. I know it is going to be a fun time.
Plus, aside from being a Resident Advisor and the Buckeye Leadership Society, I really haven't gotten involved.
I know, I know. You're probably thinking Come on, Jessica! There's like 800 clubs to join. What do ya mean, you haven't gotten involved? Aside from trying to get use to my job as a RA, I've been trying to think about how I want to connect with the university and which avenues to succeed in this way. I'm done with "fillers" for my resume. I want do take part in things that I know will really mean something to me, and help me personally and with my career. Because I love being creative and can't see myself doing as far as a job that isn't, I believe that the Wexner Student Council is a good fit.
I'm getting involved one step at a time.
