Buckeye Donuts: My Gyro

My room was not clean. Cluttered with clothes that seemed to hug my body at all the wrong places (and proved incompatible with my black slacks), it looked like an angry, fashioned-obsessed woman lived there.

And she did.

After failing last year to get a reservation at the Blackwell, one of OSU's higher dining facilities, at the end of last quarter we decided that we'd beat the mad rush to kill swipes by eating before the quarter was out. The call made, and the next day we were set to meet our destiny, if destiny were a filet mignon and 2-swipe dessert buffet. But that day, for some reason, it didn't work out (must've been the fact that my boyfriend told me that I couldn't wear my dark jeans...). After throwing clothes around enough for my room to be called the aftermath of Hurricane Macy, I gave up. And Chris made the call.

So what could we do? We still hungry. All the other dining places were a definite no, which left us to high street. After walking along high street for a while, we decided on Buckeye Donuts.

Buckeye Donuts.

Buckeye Donuts is the type of place that looks cool to you, but for some reason or another, you never go. I had to admit that the big window in the front where some people can be seen struggling to fit a gyro in their mouths was a bit daunting. And since it is a bit small, it always seemed a bit cramped to me. But those characteristics were also a few reasons why it appeared a bit charming.

And it was. As soon as my boyfriend and I stepped into the threshold, we were greeted casually by a man covered in white powder---the sugar kind. He didn't even ask for the money when he took our orders. We are good, honest people and I guess sensed that. Or maybe he was more concerned about powdering his donuts. Anyway, the food turned out to be good. There were a few people in the establishment, like maybe three or four, so of course it was cramped--but it was a good cramped. And there were fun posters to look at on the wall, just case you wanted to give your mouth a rest for a little while.

To sum it up, I guess I figured out for myself why Buckeye Donuts has been an OSU tradition since 1969. There's just the laid back aura when you step in that seems like to say "We're all friends here" (but then again I guess you kind of have to be when there's 5 inches between you and everyone else). It just feels right. :D.
