Stayin' Awake
Well, I did it, and I didn’t like it!
It took four years of high school and three years of college before I ever had to pull an all-nighter in order to complete an assignment for class. And, contrary to popular belief, I did so without the aid of coffee or tea.
During the recent finals’ week of autumn quarter, I needed to complete two term papers while simultaneously studying for four finals. Needless to say, I was a little overwhelmed.
This was the first time in my studies that I freaked out! I had no idea how to thoroughly prepare for all of these requirements and also fulfill the duties as a member of my various organizations on campus. Responsibilities can have a way of piling up when you least expect it!
Well, I finished one of the term papers with ease, but it still took two days to complete – leaving me with less than 24 hour to tackle my other paper before it was due. After attending a final review for a different class at 10:30, I began to decipher all of the researched notes and articles on my topic – which needed to be a U.S. antitrust case. The paper was underway by noon.
Stopping for dinner served as the only opportunity to break during my marathon of an essay. I worked clear through the night, remembering not only when my roommates went to bed, but also when they rose. The paper printed around 9:30 in the morning – just an hour before it needed to be submitted. I’m pretty sure I submitted it without even reviewing the 15 page document – something I do not advise; however, after researching the topic all day, I could hardly make heads or tails of what I had written.
The paper – somehow – managed to get me an ‘A’, but I would’ve rather taken Zzzz’s.
