Little Review
Studying can be such a dreadful task, except when done early. But let's face it, who, besides the brainiacs, actually studies early? I think I've tried once or twice. Timely studying wasn't really a huge necessity in high school since you know exactly what you have to do to get the grade you want. You didn't even have to show up or participate all the time but old faithful Mrs. Johnson (generic teacher name) knew you well and you had classes with her before so inevitably you didn't have to try too hard.
Well, that's kind of my story. And thankfully enough people scared me about the rigors of college so that when I first started, I was being super dilligent and studious because I heard it was so hard.
Well, it didn't take me too long to figure out that only some courses are hard, generally the upper level ones. So my first quarter I pulled a bunch of overnighters and made sure that I knew the material front and back.
I never understood the concept of reading a whole textbook. In high school the text book was just for reference or general instruction, not for me to sit down and read the entire thing. But Professors actually want you to do that, and even test you on stuff that you were supposed to have read.
It really baffeld me a couple of times about how even when I did read the book for a Midterm, there would be questions regarding the captions under the pictures and the charts. I thought I was only going to be tested on the regularly written material and looks like I had to know absolutely everything.
So now I pay attention to detail like no other. And I'm trying this new thing out where after I take the notes in class, I review them later on that night. So that I can email or go see a T. A. (teaching assistant) with any qestions about the material, and more so that I can get a head start in studying. Why do I wait to cram in a load of information the night before when I could be doing little by little each day? I guess that's just one of those things concerning college students and the way we use our time.
