Pack it up!
I only had 1 Final Exam on Monday at 7:30am! How ironic that I had the first Final for the week yet have to stay until next Monday since my sister graduates Sunday.
So with all this free time I've been so priviledged to have, you would probably think that I was packed and ready to go by Friday at 2:00pm (when the Residence Halls close) but looks like it is Thursday, and the only thing that I have packed so far are my purses! Yep, I sure have a long way to go, but my mother will be here later on tonight, and it really helps to have someone else getting all your stuff out of the room, especially TVs and stereos!
Once you first move into the Dorms, you really realize how much stuff you have. I was so shocked to see all my items fit in my mom's car last year. I thought I would have to leave so much, but praise God that it all worked out!
I really have no idea how people can bring ALL of their items on the plane or in 1 little 4-seater car. From the bed spread to laptop & printer, school supplies, toiletries, shoes and not to mention clothes, there is so much stuff to pack in a super small room!
The room sizes are not that bad, your items amazingly fit although there is not much room to walk or to have other furniture.
I like how the 4 Freshmen dorms (Steeb, Smith, Park & Stradley Hall)

have shelves at the top in the rooms since that extra space at the top is so helpful. There are not any in where I stay now, and I am really missing them. I did not have any extra space to put my snacks or toiletries that are normally in cabinets.
My desk became a dresser and my bed became a desk. I put my shoes under my bed while most people might put bins for more storage space there.
I will still be living in the residence halls (http://housing.osu.edu/future.asp) next year because my mom thinks that it is best for me right now, and secretly I agree. I did not feel like Apartment shopping nor liked the idea of paying rent every month, landlords & leases, or not knowing what to eat for dinner.
Of course I get faced with the reproach from friends and comments like, "We are too grown to stay in the dorms" and "I need rental history and a head-start on living on my own."
I say that I have my whole life to live in an apartment or a house, so what is the big rush? I understand that some people just cannot do the dorms and the idea of sharing bathrooms is a mega turn-off, but I look at it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I will never be staying in dorms again after college.
The convenience is the biggest factor for me. Even if you can find a close apartment, there is nothing like staying on campus when it comes to closeness to classes. That proximity truly helps a Procrastinator like myself where I can leave my room 10 minutes before a class versus a 20-minute drive or an even longer walk.
I also would not be involved in any activities or organizations living off campus. Because who wants to drive to class, drive home, and then drive back for every meeting? Not I! That's too much work and thought. Off-campus students find themselves lounging around in the library or wherever between classes while I can conveniently head back to my room.
So don't get boggled down with the Dorm blues, because those same people hassling you about staying on campus are the first ones asking you for a swipe!
