Savannah Beach
For Labor Day weekend, I wanted to get out and see some water! So my mom and I drove down to Savannah, Georgia, but sadly the only water I got to see were rain drops since it poured down all weekend. It still proved to be a good trip though especially since Savannah has so much history and tourist sites, being the first city in Georgia when it became a colony in 1733. We went on a riverboat cruise (www.savannahriverboat.com) for a couple of hours, which was nice since the boat has 3 levels and a big buffet, the only thing is that it felt weird moving around on the ship as it was moving, but at least no one got motion sickness!
We managed to get around the city despite the rain and went into many of the shops and walked on the old cobblestone roads and viewed the ancient architecture.

On the way back to Atlanta, we stopped in Macon at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame (www.georgiamusic.org). There were so many artists honored in their such as, James Brown, Ray Charles, Amy Grant, TLC, and Usher. It was neat to see how so many entertainers are connceted to Georgia somehow even if they were not born and raised there.
It was also exciting to hear that the OSU Football team won their first game! If I had stayed in town last weekend, I would have went to a place in Atlanta called American Pie that has tons of Buckeye fans gathering to watch the games. I went to an event there last month sponsored by the Ohio State Alumni Club of Atlanta (www.osuatl.com). It was called a "Summer Send-Off" where new, current, and old students can come together and share their experiences at OSU with the upcoming Freshmen. It was fun to see how even in Georgia, Ohio State still has strong ties. After talking with many of the Alumni, most of them were orignially from Ohio and continue to return to the University each year for games and just to visit. I talked with Hall of Fame baseball and football stars and their wives, and they told me about the dorms they used to stay in back in the 70s and how the campus has totally evolved. They had stories of how there used to be only one place for them to go to on High Street and how the Freshmen dorms now were once all men's dorms. Glad things have changed!
