First Class Glamorous

So the long-awaited classes have officially started. Today is Day 3 for me. The first day was a cinch since I only had 1 class at 1:30pm so I got the whole morning to do what I like best, which is sleep! I did try to get up a little earlier though and continued upon my quest to unpacking all my items (I have a lot of stuff!) and even got my room decorating started.

Funny how the 1st day of school in college is like the complete opposite from high school. Although you're still excited, you aren't as much. I can remember First Day of Schools from elementary when the only care was the Back-to-school outfit. I would go to school strolling with my new clothes, new shoes, hair done, nails done and would even have new school supplies like a new Jansport bookbag, trapper keeper, lead pencils and gel pens!
All the new stuff plus seeing your old friends was what made the 1st day so great.
But in college, there is no 1st day hype. No one cares about the back-to-school outfit as much and you're lucky if you can scrape up a pencil and notebook from last quarter.

So what causes this First Day Frenzie decline?

Maturity, I guess. College students realize that they are just going to class, not trying to be Next Top Model, especially since there are so many people who don't even know you.
Also, college students are on a budget with tuition, books and rent, taking priority over clothes.
I noticed the change in me when asked by my family, "What are you going to wear for the first day?" I paused because normally I would have a full-detailed account of my outfit, purse, nails and more, but nothing big this year.
Every OSU student picks up this new sense of self after a while. You don't have to try to impress your peers like in high school, and you don't need a new identity (unless you want one).

But don't get me wrong, you can still come fly to class if you want. Although dress is more laid-back and comfortable, everyone in college doesn't just roll out the bed and walk out (but you will see some with the plaid Spongebob pj's on especially for an 8:30!), you also have those who wear their stilettos everyday and truck it across campus.

*The best part about your first year is that all your clothes are new to everyone anyway! So you can save all that time in the mirror and spend it on finding the right building!
