Moving In Again
I'm back! And for some reason it feels like I never left. Maybe because I did summer school. I bid farewell to my beloved Georgia and hit the road early with my family for our nice nine-hour trip. My last night I went to my high school's football game and saw all the Seniors that were freshmen my Senior year. I never imagined them growing up, I just thought that I would go off to college, come back and they would still be freshmen. But time does go on, and I felt so old being amongst those youngsters- watching them playing tag, rolling in cliques, and getting in trouble with administrators. I almost cried when I saw the marching band and had a flashback of how I used to be on that field as a drum major, and Friday nights were the time to shine.
But back to the future! Move-In Day was good once we found where to park at the Schottenstein. I got my room key and my parking pass and then headed off to storage to take out my big things like my TV, stereo, bed spread, and fan. I thought it was going to be a disaster getting through my storage unit but everything was exactly how I left it (all over the place!). Moving in was a little more crowded this year since I couldn't go directly to my dorm just yet, they had the cars that were headed to South campus wait in a holding lot by the stadium till it got less congested. So that took about 20 minutes, but there were greeters in the lot who informed us on exactly what was going on and they had snacks!
Ohio State really has move-in day down to a science. There are color-coded signs and officers directing cars to their appropriate dorms so that it's really hard to go wrong. Everyone is always so skeptical about how the biggest school can manage move-in all on 1 day, but we do!
When I got to Baker East, the OWLs (Ohio State Welcome Leaders) just started unloading my car and putting my things in carts (I needed 4!) and then taking them to my room. Right when I got to my door and was ready to enter my new place, I lost my key. It wasn't in my pockets or my purse so I assumed my mom my might have snagged it, who was outside, so I just stayed calm and got a loaner key from downstairs. I checked out my new single room (I get a full-length closet) and arranged the furniture around about 5 times till I got my desk in place, fridge where I wanted, and bed to the side. Thankfully, I found my key at the bottom of one of the carts, which was a blessing and saved me $100.
So that was moving in, kind of quick and painless, but I still have so much to unpack!
