Breakdown

It was such a great weekend to go back home since we got Monday off for Veteran's Day!
I forgot to tell you the first 2 News Shows for Buckeye 19 News are up on youtube now. I did the Entertainment News for the first show: http://youtube.com/watch?v=SsQe1hrE7tU
And I anchored this show: Part 1-http://youtube.com/watch?v=MhO2XjdgFuQ
Part 2-http://youtube.com/watch?v=-WY4PI0znsA

We had some extreme technical difficulties with the teleprompter and cameras, but Buckeye TV is a student-run organization and a work in progress.

I got to tutor students at church from elementary to high school. The New Salem Missionary Baptist Church offers tutoring 2 Tuesdays a month from 6-8pm, so me and the other bible study leader decided to help out. I found that I was better in helping kids with English and Reading than Math and Science. I had 2 of the girls I tutored write a practice essay for me to help with their writing organization. All the students were good overall and pretty attentive, which is so much better than trying to help a bunch of Know-It-Alls with attitudes. So I will definitely be back to help.

Friday, I stayed up all night with the other Choir members at the African American Voices Gospel Choir Lock-In. We always have one at the end of every quarter to help people get to know each other better than just at rehearsals. We watched a typical Tyler Perry film, ate, played games, and concluded with some deep discussions.

The Lock-In was from 10:00pm-6:00am at the Hale Center so at least I was nearby my dorm if I suddenly fell asleep!

Saturday, I woke up just in time to catch the end of OSU's victory over Michigan! I pretty much used this day to regain rest lost on Friday. I ended up writing an article for The Lantern, and then decided to go to the Skating Party that the Q's put on. Even though I was only there for an hour, that was enough time for drama break loose.

Sunday, after I went to Sunday School, I went to my Buckeye TV News meeting where Brittany Westbrook, a reporter for 10TV News came and spoke with us. She was so down-to-earth and funny. She told us that our News show desperately needed a Floor Manager to direct the anchors to look at certain cameras. Brittany talked about how specfic and beneficial her undergrad training was at Northwestern University. It kind of made me sad that Ohio State's Journalism program is not as together, but at least I am getting some practical experience.
brittanybio.jpgWhat a coincidence that Brittany actually interviewed me for a story she was doing on the Skating Party! I was on the 6:00, 10:00 and 11:00 News! http://10tv.com/?sec=news&story=sites/10tv/content/pool/200711/1828437581.html

I qucikly rushed to The Lantern Newsroom afterwards and put in 2 stories. I was seriously about to reach my breaking point and on the edge of having a total meltdown because I had to speak at an event for High School, out-of-state minorities at 6:00pm when I was still at the Newsroom! I tried to remain calm and keep my faith. I changed into a suit and then drove over to the hotel where the event was held, and got there around 6:20. Thankfully I didn't have to speak until 7:00. I was so frantic that I was just ready to get the speech over with, which actually helped to take my focus off "the public speaking jitters." I wasn't nervous at all and spoke about how it is being a minority from another state at OSU.

The Office of Minority Affairs sponsored this program, and I love to help out with it since I was a part of it as a senior in high school as well. Needless to say, I was tired at the end of the day, but relieved and oh so thankful that everything worked out!
