Me a Mentor
Yesterday was the Mentoring Program's main event where we (Mentors) get to meet our Mentees for the year (http://oma.osu.edu/aas/Mentoring.1.htm). This was a pretty large event with a couple hundred people in a Holiday Inn ballroom. I was anticipating meeting my mentee. I wondered if she would be like me, in Journalism, from out-of-state or the total opposite. She is actually pretty cool. Her name is Tara, and she's a Freshman from Portsmouth, Ohio. She stays in Steeb where I stayed my first year so at least we stay close by each other. She hasn't decided on a major yet, so I guess the only thing we might have in common is that our personalities are kind of similar and laid back. I hope that I can be a good resource and like a big sister to her because I always had a big sister to help guide me at OSU, which helps so much.
I wrote my 1st article of the year for The Lantern last week. It was a press release about a poetry event that occured last weekend. It actually didn't take me too long so I don't know if I finally got the hang of this Journalism writing or if this was just an easy topic. Here's the story: http://media.www.thelantern.com/media/storage/paper333/news/2008/01/11/Arts/Ohio-Poets.To.Appear.On.Campus.Saturday-3149792.shtml
I came up with a research topic after I met with my Professor during her office hours. I am going to study the effects that religiosity and extra-curricular activities can have on a student's GPA. So this should be an interesting research paper!
