Summer research
In addition to taking some classes, I'm going to be doing some undergraduate research over the summer. I decided to get involved with Europa, the undergraduate research forum for Computer Science Engineering students.
I'm going to be researching a novel sorting algorithm. This is my first time doing formal academic research. I really hope I can actually accomplish something useful and develop a new (and improved) way of doing something so fundamental to many applications.
I'm not sure how far I will get during the summer, but I think it'll be fun. I'm working with Mr. Weide, the Associate Department Chair. I'm glad that I could find such an opportunity; I didn't think that undergraduate students (especially second year students!) had a good chance to do research. However, I was happy to find out about Europa and how it so perfectly fit my need.
