Professor, School of Bible and Ministry

I have been teaching for 25 years and have immensely enjoyed the study, teaching, and the students. Beginning this academic year, I am moving into administration as the Interim Provost. I will continue to teach a few classes each year, but will now also oversee all of the academic activities at PBU. It will be an interesting challenge; one that I am looking forward to.

Worldview Conference

Last month PBU held its first Worldview Conference on "Art, Beauty, and the Church." You can hear three of the plenary presentations at the PBU website. One of the most attended presentations was given by filmmaker Brian Godawa, who spoke on themes of redemption in movie narratives. I gave a talk on art and the Bible. In my study on this topic what I found most interesting is the idea that when we engage a work of art, we enter into a new world. Art of any kind creates a world and the art beckons us to enter into its world and explore it. It is the exploration of the art's world that provides a way to engage the art and seek to understand it. This idea is based on how God's artistry is demonstrated in the world He created. As we explore his world, we come to know and understand what it means. We also come face to face with the Creator. Take a moment to go outside and meditate on the works of God (Psalm 111:2 "Great are the works of the Lord; They are studied by all who delight in them.").
