A lot of my friends lately have been going through relationship issues, or wanting a relationship struggles. I am not excluded in that category, I want a relationship too...someday. I was telling someone yesterday about our dorm, Heritage Hall, it houses both guys and girls, but the girls and guys wings are separated by a giant lounge in between, girls are not allowed in the guys wings and vice versa. So the person I was talking to asked whether or not the wings have like a “brother-sister dorm with whom they do activities and help the guys and girls to get to know each other. I told her that most of our wing activities are focused on just the girls, or just the guys... you find that guys and girls have no problem finding each other. So what is the issue... what am I talking about? Just something I have learned... you need to be spiritually right with God in order to be able to invite someone else into your life. I learned that lesson freshmen year, after a relationship I was in did not work out, we were not a God-glorifying relationship and I think it was because neither of us were spiritually mature. You might be thinking... if you learned this like a year or two years ago... why write about it now? Because I realized something recently about my behavior after that realization and my relationship with God. After I learned that first lesson I began to see my relationship with God as a stepping stone, a means of obtaining a good relationship. So here is part two of the lesson I am learning- my relationship with God needs to be my focus not with the goal of eventually being ready for a relationship with some guy, but it needs to be my focus solely with the purpose of loving my Creator and honoring and glorifying my God.
When you come to school here, or even if you go somewhere else, you will see the dynamics of all the girls and all these guys in the same age-range preparing for their futures. For most of us, we see marriage in that future as well, so it is only logical that you will see people when you get here searching for the right person, it is natural, and a lot of times, we are wanting someone who will serve Christ with us. But we go about preparing by searching... and sometimes it is the lessons along the way that might prepare us most... especially preparing us for a marriage that will serve Christ, and be glorifying to Him.
