Hey everyone... my name is Heather. I am from Lockport, NY, right near Niagara Falls and Buffalo. I am a Senior here at PBU in the Dual Degree Counseling Program. Random fact about me... I love to make weird faces at people, especially if there is awkward eye contact!

"...a million tomorrows shall all pass away..."

You know that feeling that life has been scripted? That everything is working together towards a purpose? I am pretty sure that the feeling has very much to do with God. Funny how that happens. We are at Creation right now, and I am feeling like I am beginning to see what my recent past has been leading up to and bringing me to learn. I was reading a book the other day, its called “Friendship Counseling” by Kevin Huggins, and the section that I was reading I found was really challenging me and my life. It was really challenging me to be more genuine and to be better at loving. Huggins talked about how loving others is a complex skill, I think the word skill seems to indicate that it is not something that everyone has though, for example, not everyone has skateboarding skills, although people (like me) may wish that we could skateboard, we in all actuality end up lying on our behinds with sore toes and sore behinds, unfortunate but unavoidable if we continue trying to skateboard when we don’t have the skill. However, I think the point that Huggins was trying to make was that it is something that we have to develop. Loving others is not something that comes naturally, it is something that is hard, especially when we have just fallen down, we want someone else to pick us up, not to look over and see that someone needs to be carried.

But thats the way it often is isn’t it? No matter what we are going through, someone else is probably going through something worse. And we are called to love them... even if they refuse. There is so much that is tied into what I have been learning that would create an atrociously long blog, that no one (especially not me) would have the attention span to read. Such as forgiving others even if they don’t ask for forgiveness and are not even sorry... that falls under love too... and that is hard. So maybe love is a skill that no one is born with, but everyone has to develop. We are a new creation in Christ, perhaps the moment that we were born again that little love skill developed a little seed in each of us, begging us to water it all the while being trampled and squashed by the “me” weed, that wants to kill that precious flower. Whatever it is. It is really hard to do, and not many of us genuinely love each other, or are very genuine at all. What are we afraid of? Life is much more beautiful when we cultivate flowers and not weeds.

So in conclusion, the occurences in my life lately, have been leading to me being challenged about how much I love others, and challenging my love for God. Because of the steps my life has taken, it has lead to not only the challenging... but also to the desire in me to grow and to change. So that is what I am going to be working on, and that is what has been happening in my life. Peace out.

Guest blogger...introducing...my friend and soon to be fellow worker.... JANICE :)

While the original blogger wipes away the grime and dirt that one can only acquire by walking on the grounds of Agape Farm (Hello! Creation Fest!), the substitute steps in. That would be me, JANICE.janice.jpg
I think I'm a super junior or something close to that, majoring in Social Work. Hello Professor Gestoso if you ever read this.

I tried a deep fried Oreo for the first time today. Heather bought it and I took a nibble... just to be on the safe side, because -- well -- I'm only twenty. Heart attacks and/or high cholesterol aren't exactly making the top five in my "Things to do in Life" list (:

I decided this morning that camping is definitely a bonding experience, in the sense that you will come to know people in ways that are not possible through regular, every day interaction. Take that any way you want, but I'm amused beyond belief, especially as skinship is put to the ultimate test! Sharing a bathroom with six other people is also... interesting. And I thought being in a suite with just three others was complex. Whewwwwww. At this point I will also mention that my hearing has been drastically affected since the first day here at Creation (the next band has begun to play and I can feel my ribcage vibrating) -- I realize that I'm getting older, but this morning there was awful lunch-bell-ringing sound in my ears and at first I thought...

Well. That's hardly important.

I don't want to write a novel. Goodbye readers ^^v

"While the blossoms still cling to the vine..."

So it is officially, scientifically, summer. After staying at school a couple extra weeks to work I am now home...although I am about to leave in a few days to go to Creation for the Admissions office. I am sure I will tell you about it when I get back :)
Thus far... my time home has consisted of sleep... and books... and randomness.
The college and career group at my church is teaching Sunday school for the summer... its exciting, no really, I am wicked excited about it! Our theme is going to be a Jerusalem marketplace... how cool is that going to be!?!?!

The song that I started to quote in my title is an Irish lullaby, it reminded me of summer... maybe I will continue the song through the rest of my titles... we'll see:)

My riddle...

So what does a microwave, dirty laundry, and Teddy grahams all have in common?

They were all involved in my need for quarters. You see, I needed quarters in order to do my laundry, however, I did not have quarters, so I had a giant pile of dirty laundry. In order to get quarters I needed dollar bills for the quarter machine, however, I didn't have any cash. Which meant that I needed to go to the gas station near by to get out money, and then getting out a twenty dollar bill I needed change. So I grabbed a 99cent bag of Teddy Grahams and bought it from the creepy gas station guy to get change.

Now having dollars, you would think I would be all set for doing my laundry. However, I only took down just enough money to do my laundry, and I put my clothes in 2 of the dryers, put quarters in the one and started it. Then I took my last dollar to get more quarters for the second dryer, upon obtaining these quarters I went and put them in the WRONG dryer, I put them in the dryer already running!

Not believing that I actually just put them in the wrong machine, I opened the door and looked inside, sure enough I put double to money in one dryer. However, sitting on top of that pile of sopping wet clothes waiting to be dried, was a nice sopping wet dollar.

Voila! Just enough money for the second dryer! However the dollar was too wet to go into the change machine, well now what am I to do? Wait there for it to dry? no thanks. So looking around me I see the microwave right outside the laundry room. "I wonder what would happen if I microwaved my dollar?" I thought to myself. Believing I had nothing to lose if I microwaved my dollar, I stuck it in the microwave and nuked it for 30 seconds.

Opening the door of the microwave, I removed a nice, crispy, dry dollar. And you know what? That change machine took that crispy dollar that smelled like lilacs from my detergent, and in return I got my quarters and was able to finish doing my laundry.

a microwave, dirty laundry, and teddy grahams

what do all of these things have in common?

I bet you can't guess.

I would be impressed if you could.

I was going to write what they all have in common, but in case someone does feel like guessing, I will wait until tomorrow to tell you what they have in common :)
