I’m Janice! I hail from the wonderful (but relatively unknown for some reason) little town of Flemington, NJ — home of Liberty Village Premium Outlets and the courthouse where the Lindbergh baby trial took place. I’m a transfer student, majoring in Social Work & Bible, and I’ve finally made it to my senior year! I may be a TKD black belt... but I’m terrified of bugs.

Last minute end-of-the-semester thoughts

Ladies & Gentlemen: finals are done and over with! Hooray!!

I was asked earlier today if I was relieved that I was finished with the semester -- my answer was yes (who isn't?!!), but there is that span of time from when final exams are all taken care of to when the grades for the courses are posted, and that time is an entirely different type of stressful within itself.

So what's next? I'm thinking ahead to next semester already, but first, we have a delicious 5-week (only 3 if you are doing J-term) break to enjoy :D so basically... for the next 3 weeks or so I plan on bumming around. Oh, and rehearsing for as well as attending a wedding. & catching up with friends as we all return home from our respective schools. I'll probably end up working too. Sleeping is another hardcore activity I plan on devoting much time too, as I feel like I haven't done too much of that this past semester.

Perhaps I won't be bumming around all that much after all.

The saddest part about the end of this semester is that several good friends of mine will not be returning next year. Isn't it terribly strange how people I managed to live without for the first 19 years of my life are now so incredibly dear? I can't even begin imagining next semester without seeing them...

God is faithful.

FINAL FOES & WOES

I think my age is finally catching up to me. Pulling all-nighters is actually kind of torturous, now. Sighhh. The funny part? I'M ONLY TWO FINALS IN. Four more to go...

Well, a few events that lifted my mood took place today! The first one was our mandatory Nexus party (is it just me that finds this incredibly funny?!!) -- Nexi, ECs, EOS, and important people alike all gathered in Manor Hall for an hour of food, fellowship, and presents (including White Elephant)!

The second mood-lifting event was 10th hour breakfast (: during finals week there is a designated "10th hour breakfast" night where... well, we eat breakfast food at 10pm~ and then go right back to studying. It's a nice break from the reality of the finals of doom that are upon us... and the pancakes are pretty yummy too!

Ah, goodnight ladies & gents! I'm off to study some more...

It's not about me!

We have all been told at one point or another that stereotypes are bad. Bad! Because you know, everyone is an individual and it's all sorts of silly and presumptuous to assume someone is something or not-something based upon stuff. Take note of how detailed I am in my explanation.

But sometimes... just sometimes, there are stereotypes that are applicable. Not saying they are always true, but that they can be somewhat relevant to this particular person that you assumed would [blank] because they are [blank]. Anyway, there were some generic ones I had in mind, but a flash of genius prompted me to make fantastic use of Google -- and I stumbled across this one page titled "TOP 1O KOREAN STEREOTYPES (fun ones)". I laughed my way through it, oh~ the insanity x)

Or is it? I would like to mention that I have never entered a Korean household that didn't have two refrigerators.

But here we are, defying the picture stereotype: we are individuals!

A Turkey & Some Mistletoe

I seem to be having conversations about the appropriateness of listening to Christmas music before December 1st (or even starting the day after Thanksgiving) a lot lately... people complain that it is just wrong, just oh-so-wrong to get in the Christmas mood when Thanksgiving has barely passed and that it's like... jipping one holiday for another.

My solution? Holidays should be month-long events, and not just one day. I know we have the holiday "seasons", but that isn't exactly helpful in this case. Think about it: if Thanksgiving were a month-long event and you had to eat turkey and cranberry sauce for a month straight while walking around listing everything you've ever been thankful for (well, if you do that kind of thing, I mean) you would be PRETTY DARN HAPPY when the month was finally over. You would run to the nearest piano and plink out Christmas songs you didn't even know you knew how to play. You would have gotten your fill of one holiday and transition into the next without petty complaints of holiday jippage (no, this is not a real word), and perhaps even appreciate it when people start to hum "Jingle Bells" before the month of Thanksgiving was totally over.

Then again, I'm the kind of person who will listen to Christmas music in July and be perfectly content with life. Nothing like basking in the warm sun and thinking of chestnuts roasting on an open fire...
