Blackfriar Theatre
The very first event that I attended on the Providence College campus was a production at the Smith Center with my 11th grade English Class and today I revisited the place where I first fell in love with PC.
My friend Liz and I went to the 2 pm production of "Breaking the Cycle," a series of three plays: Iphigenia at Aulis by Euripides, Agamemnon by Aeschylus and Electra by Sophocles. Although it was an extra credit assignment for our Civ class, I am really glad that I went as the acting and staging were phenomenal. It was a student-run production and the cast members were amazing, taking the complete role of their characters. As someone who is not into theatre and for those of you who might be in the same boat, it is really neat to reach out to groups such as theatre on campus to sort of culture yourself about what college is all about. I think of college as a time for experimenting, exploring and taking advantage of all that these four years offer you. I think by attending that play today, I reached out to a part of PC that I had not yet! I hope to attend another play, Philoctetes in December and hopefully a few others this year as well. The Providence College theatre department is extremely talented and well worth seeing.
So come on down to PC and catch a show!
