Tour of the RI State House!

So yesterday my mentoring group took a tour of the state house with our mentees and we had a blast. Being a Massachusetts resident all my life, I have never gotten the chance to see the RI state house, even though I have passed it many times in the car. What I learned was that the RI state house has the fourth largest self standing marble dome in the world, at 50 feet..pretty cool huh? The building itself was constructed in 1904 and cost 3 million dollars and it is made of Georgian marble.

We got to see the room where the RI senate meets, the library, along with the governor's imperial room. And then to our surprise we got to meet the governor, see inside his office and shake his hand! Overall a really cool experience and the kids loved it, especially my mentee Kenny. He had so many good questions! I look forward to seeing him every two weeks and I wish we had longer than 2 hours to hangout with them, because the kids are just great!

On a side note...I had to wake up to register for the spring semester this morning at 7am and I got everything I wanted! I'm taking Civ, Educational Psychology, British Lit and Biblical Theology and I'm done every day at 12:20..YAY ME!

Below are some pics from our field trip..
