Intramurals Galore

This week my nights have been occupied by intramural sports, both volleyball and ultimate Frisbee. I have played volleyball before, but ultimate Frisbee is a first for me. Monday night, my team had our first volleyball game and…we won! We played three rounds. We lost the first one, which was discouraging, but then came up on top in the second round. The third round was extremely close, but we ended up winning! Then last night I played in my first ultimate Frisbee game and my team won, which is very exciting (second win this week!). Ultimate Frisbee is a lot of running, which is difficult for me because I am so out of shape. I’m glad there were so many subs. We play on the turf field and it was great to be outside on such a warm night. I haven’t been able to attend the last two games because of group meetings, but so far our team is undefeated. To give you a few details about intramural sports…they usually take place twice a week at night and run for a few weeks. So I will be playing intramural sports four nights this week! There are usually two divisions, A and B, to divide up the skill levels. At the end if your team has the best record you make it into the playoffs where you compete with the best teams. The team that keeps on winning becomes the champion of their division and as an added bonus everyone on that team receives a free t-shirt! Free t-shirts in college are very popular so this is a great incentive for students to want to win. Intramural sports are a lot of fun especially when you get a group of your friends together. It’s a nice break from school and work. Also, for the most part, the teams I have been on have been extremely laid back, which is nice. The captains always seem to have a great balance of drive as well as encouragement for their team members. Throughout four years, however, I have yet to win the playoffs. Maybe, it will happen this time around with volleyball or ultimate Frisbee…
