Hey guys,
It's been awhile, so much going on! School is almost out and I only have about 2 weeks left of classes. The semester has gone by so fast. My OB clinicals have been going well, I watched a circumcision and passed out on the floor ha. Maybe OB isnt the best thing for me? Anyway other than that it's been pretty fun, I get to watch a delivery next Monday, maybe I'll stay conscious for that. Last weekend I got to participate in the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge. It was sooo fun. There were kids from all over the country all seniors that got to participate. There were 4 goalies and 8 skaters on each team and it's set up pretty much how the NHL does their skills competition. It was in DC so when we weren't doing things they had planned for us we got to sight see a little bit around the white house. We also got free tickets to the frozen four games! They were so exciting to watch, especially the championship against BU and Miami. BU won but I was pulling for MIAMI. Great game though. Other than that just enjoying the break and trying to stay focused to finish school! Talk to you soon,

I'm back,

I just got home last night from our CHA playoffs and we lost in overtime! They call a penalty on us with a minute and a half left, the other team pulls their goalie to make it 6 on 4 and they scored. Seasons over. I guess if I wanted to end my career, overtime would be the way to go though. Everyone played soo well too. It's going to be weird with no more hockey, I don't know what I will do with all this extra time! I made this skills competition though and that's in April so at least I'll have one more hockey thing to do and it should be fun. They took like ten girls and ten guys from the east and west and made two teams and we go to Washington D.C for the mens frozen four. I'm really excited, they put us all in one hotel with all new equipment and clothes and we do a youth thing the one day and the skills competition in between the mens semi final games the next day. Other than hockey, it's spring break now so I get to go home! I haven't been home since Christmas. I'm not sure if any of my friends will be home though so it might just be a week of relaxing...time to go though, have to start packing!

Senior Night

So last night was our senior night, I can't believe how fast it went! It was a nice ceremony and on top of that we won! we've only beaten them one other time and that was last year. Wayne state is ranked in the top ten so that was huge for us. They are also who we will see first round of playoffs in two weeks, maybe we can do it again! Anyway everyone's family was here for the weekend and luckily they all got to see a great game..we won 1-0. It was pretty weird going into the rink knowing it was the last time the nine of us were going to put the jersey on together at our home rink. We talked about that day for four years and now it's over. It made it alot easier to handle after a big win like that. afterwards we all went downtown to celebrate.
Hmm what else is going on? I'm just finishing up my pediatric rotation, this is my last week so I'll go to the NICU tomorrow morning then have my last week of class and finish next mondy at a grade school. After thet I will start OB and I'm pretty excited about that, it sounds like it will be pretty fun. I have to start studying for my final so I will talk to you soon hopefully after a few wins in playoffs!

Hello again,
I have about an hour to kill before my jazz dance class so i thought I would fill you in on my last few weeks. I just got done with peds class and taking our second test. I never know what to think after those! There is always 2 right answers and you have to chose the BEST one. So it's frustrating trying to pick which one after you knock it down to 50/50. Other than that, I've been learning lots and getting pretty skilled in my jazz dance techniques ha. It's really a fun class, a lot of stretching and abs. I also have had two patients now at childrens hospital. All of the kids are sooo cute. I got to work with a toddler my first day and a 4 week old baby last monday. I would love to tell you my experiences but I can't, I'd get into trouble! Although, I got to see a bone marrow aspirate, which obviously hard to watch on a small child but it was really neat to see how it is done. It made it easier too because I just distracted them while the staff did what they had to do. My instructor is great, she really makes you think about the nursing aspect and what makes sense to look for and how to stablize your patient. Some of the kids are really hard to watch after you learn about their life. A big thing I have learned, which people tell you your whole life but it really is true, is that you have nooo idea how good you have it. The things you think are so tough in life and so horrible are so small when you sit with a family that just found out their child has cancer or some other disease. Their whole life changes in a second and the only thing I have to worry about when I go out the doors is where I'm going to eat and when I have time to study for a test. There is a plus side though, we get to see families go home with their child that just beat something or get news with negative test results. So their are good things to see as well! I love also being able to help them when they dont feel well or are lonely while their parents went to get something to eat.
Other than that, we have a game tomorrow against sacred heart again so hopefully we end the weekend with 2 more wins! Talk to you guys soon..

Hey everyone,
Christmas was fun, it was nice to see everyone and my family. I got to stay home for ten days before I had to be back here for practices. Were into our last half of the season now with 2 games against Mercyhurst this weekend. We fell apart last weekend against Wayne State so hopefully we can step it up tomorrow. We've never beaten them before so I'm hoping we play really well. We went into OT last year.
School has prety fun actually. I'm in my peds rotation and we just took a test today on growth and development of infants through adolescents. The test was pretty tough but the class is really interesting and I get to go to the children's hospital on Monday. I might want to get into peds so I'm really excited to see how I like it. I love kids but it's sad to see them sick! So it'll go either way probably. I'm also into a jazz dance class to give myself enough credits. It's sooo fun we do alot of stretches and ab workouts then the last bit we learn a dance. That's about it for now just a lot of school and travelling for hockey. Talk to you soon time for dinner!

First semester down!

So I finished my first semester on Thursday. I am so glad to be done with that! Now I can finally relax and enjoy everything else. I didn't have much time to do things other than school and hockey due to my busy schedule. Next semester should be a little more relaxing with less classes. Next semester I'll have OB PEDS and a jazz dance class to fill in my elective which should be interesting ha. I'm taking that with a few of my friends that also needed a few more credits for their last year. Everyone has pretty much gone home already now that finals are over with. We have games in Connecticut tuesday and wednesday so we have to stay until then before we can go home for christmas. Then we'll be back on the 28th for practicing again and games. Which may not sound too fun but it's the best time ever. It's my team and a few other teams on camous with nothing to do other than play our sport. So we can fill our time with whatever we want like sledding on all the convenient hills on campus! Except the dangerous ones ha which my team has had a history with if you remember from last year. Oh well we'll see what this year has to bring. Other than that nothing else has really been going on, just preparing for finals and getting them out of the way so we can win 2 games in Connecticut and go home for Christmas!! I haven't been home since the summer so I'm pretty exciting to go. Oh yeah! One of our former team mates that was with us freshman year had left the team and got married a few years ago, just had her first son Detrick (sorry Ash I know I didnt spell that right). But we got to see pictures of him online and he is adorable. Hopefully when were in Detroit next semester he will make an appearance at the Wayne State game. That's all for now, I have to go get some Christmas shopping done!

How to choose the right school for you

Choosing the right school for myself was a little different but I still had to find out what it is that I wanted out of my school. I originally thought I would love going to a big school. My brother goes to a big University and I always seemed to have fun on my visits to see him. Once I started on my own college search it seemed that the things I thought I wanted didn't seem so fun after all. Big school means far walks! Aside from the long hikes to class, I thought about class size and not being the greatest student ever in high school. Why would I want to be another number in the class where to teacher may not even know my name? I visited a few schools for hockey and finally ended up choosing RMU. My teachers are awesome, they have worked with me around my crazy hockey schedule and are always willing to help me out, aside from class, when I'm gone on trips.

Before running around freaking out about what school you want to apply for think about what you want. Do you want to go far or stay close? Big school or a small school? What do you want to major in? Those are just a few. My suggestion after that is to apply and visit as many places as you can. Choose some that aren't really what your looking for because sometimes you end up liking things you never thought you would. Then write down what you liked, what you didn't like, etc about your experience at that school.

Lastly...don't go somewhere just because your friends are going there! My highschool class graduated 127 kids, 47 of them went to the same school about an hour and a half away. After the first year, half of them either realized they were going no where and got their life together and transfered or are barely in school. On top of that, they all found their own friends and split off. Not everyone does this but I'm trying to emphasize the fact that maybe where your friends go, isn't necessarily for you. I split off to play hockey in the opposite direction as all my friends to a place where I didn't know anyone. You make friends so fast so that should be the least of your worries! Live in the dorms at least your first year and get involved in as much as possible.

Hey everybody,
Hope everything has been going well, summer ended too fast! This first semester so far has been hectic. I started my clinicals this year which has been..an adventure to say the least ha. We started out in the assisted living for 3 weeks then moved over to St. Clair hospital on the post surgical floor. Were doing basic stuff like bed baths, changing bed linens, and of course cleaning up when the bathroom is just too far away. I got to see some other things along the way when something interesting pops up we all run in to watch. Since I missed my first clinical I got to make it up at AGH in the operating room and watched a few surgeries. I saw them scope a patients hip joint and the other one was a prisoner who snapped his arm in half 5 months ago and never got it fixed. I never thought I'd see anything like that. Good thing I ate a good breakfast. I'm usually the kid laying on the floor giving blood. Suprisingly I did well I just stayed intersested and didn't think about it. It wasn't until Monday watching a simple procedure that I ran out and passed out in the bathroom ha. Apparently I can watch them saw bones but a little PICC line got me. Anyway, aside from school were about a month into our season and were 3-1! Starting out with a winning record this year. We beat Minnesota our first game of the year which was unreal. They started out being ranked #3 so it was a huge win for us. While we were there we got to spend some time at the Mall of America which was pretty neat. I'm actually leaving in about an hour back to the rink to get on the bus. Were going to drive through the night on our way to St. Lawrence for the weekend. I think while we're there were going to cross the border and visit Canada for the day, probably tomorrow. Anyway wish us luck! It'll be another big weekend if we can pull of another win or two against them. Talk to you soon!
