So it's obviously NO SECRET that I'm totally on a very bad video kick lately. Infact I'd go as far as to say that I'm addicted. Everyday I seem to find a way to find a video that makes me giggle or shocks me to turning my computer off, tucking it under my bed, running a mile away to just be far away from the bad chi that I'd just exposed myself to. BUT TODAY! Today I came home and on my front stoop were some classmates that live on the first floor of my apartment building, they were all dressed up for thier lil Halloween party and it all reminded me of - THRILLER ofcourse! By Michael Jackson. But ofcourse, in the process of looking for the real video...I found this one...which totally fulfills my love for REALLY AWEFUL worldy music that mimics our own pop!! ENJOY!!!
AND FOR GOOD MEASURE...I share with you the craziest Indian music video I have ever seen in my life!!!!
YOU KNOW THE DEAL...but I'll tell you again anywayz. I'm very obsessed with finding videos of worldly musicians that are trying SO hard to mimic our already failed popular culture...and today...we have JAPANESE METAL!!! Enjoy!
OH MY SWEET BABY JESUS (5 pounds, 6 ounces!) UNKLE WAS AMAZING!!! AMAZING!!...did I mention the amazing part!!! I went to see Unkle perform at the Metro on Saturday and I was just blown away. The live performance was incredible. He and his bandmates totally rocked the house together. The drummer brought a lot of life to the show!! I was very envious of the bassist too, he had all MusicMan (tm) basses & I LOVE THOSE MUSIC MEN...::clears throat::...MusicMan basses!!! I was also VERY impressed by thier live visual projection that was happening! It was an incredible show, I'd go see this bunch of musicians perform again ANY DAY!! I found another video to share!!
AND on Sunday (I don't take breaks) I saw That1Guy perform!!! Twas a treat from my dear Brian (such a kind and sweet percussion boy!). WE HAD A BLAST! For those of you unfamiliar with That1Guy he's an experimental Electronica/Groove/Dance/Rock/Jazz musician...to describe him more acurately he created this crazy instrument out of a bunch of steel pipes, a couple of bass strings, a lot of hand made electronics and magic!!! Here! I've attached a couple of videos so you can investigate! ENJOY!
I've been trying to find a way for him to either visit as a visiting artist or come to the school to do a performance, so if y'all think you'd be into it get in touch with me!!
Gonna see UNKLE!!! YEAH!!! - this is going to rock!
Alright. So obviously, lately I've been in a video kick. But I have another vid to share with y'all. I'm going to see this totally amazing show! Check out thier video for "Burn My Shadow"
UNKLE has released War Stories The album art has in the past been designed by Futura 2000. While he still collaborates on 3rd party projects, the cover art for all the War Stories discs and vinyl has been designed by Massive Attack's 3D aka Robert Del Naja. James Lavelle is the mastermind behind UNKLE. Check out his myspace and UNKLE's Myspace. James has worked with huge artists such as Thom Yorke, Josh Homme, DJ Shadow, among others. I'm very excited to go to the show this saturday @ Metro, it's going to be awesome!!!
OH the Scottish People - And thier young think they can rap!
STILL my roommate and I had a super fantastic time searching for REDICULOUS worldy music! Preferably we were being humored by groups that wrote music that emulated our pop music somehow!...all train wrecks or just hilarious! So here's another gift!!
----Young Scottish Rappers------
HILARIOUS! Nigerians that rock...or should stop rocking!
So once more my roommate and I had a super fantastic time searching for REDICULOUS worldy music! Preferably we were being humored by groups that wrote music that emulated our pop music somehow!...all train wrecks or just hilarious!
So my roommate and I were searchin youtube.com recently looking for worldly music videos ...which then turned into looking for REDICULOUS worldly music videos and realized just how TERRIBLE most world-pop music is mimicking everything that's terrible about american pop music culture!! This got me to thinking about the last bundle of concerts I've been to either via my job, via my own performances, or via just going...and i've been to some really good ones and some train wrecks throughout my days!! I thought I'd just create a little inventory of all of the ones that I enjoyed for one reason or another.
----in no particular order----
M.I.A.
DRACO AND THE MALFOYS & HARRY AND THE POTTERS - not a potter fan but my best friend is! I appreciated the ridiculous nature of everything that was going on! There was some pretty nice musicianship but all in all it was one big comedic event!
THE WHO ....who....who....who DOESN'T love the who!?
PRINCE because....it's Prince!!! (although I was pissed, he didn't play ALL of "When Doves Cry")
THE EDITORS - with the exception of the epilepsy light show that they had goin on I enjoyed the show very much! One of thier opening bands was also enjoyable (Ra Ra Riot).
THE LAST GOODNIGHT - after the show the guys were just hangin out and greeting thier fans! They won big points in my book because they're not HUGE yet and I get very frustrated when the up and coming bands are too cool for their fans! Also, their keyboardist & drummer....AMAZING...drummer most of all!!!!
BOB DYLAN - I have to say, even though I'm not much of a dylan fan, he put on a pretty cool, chill show for an old fogie!
DAVE MATHEWS BAND - at the time i was really into them. they put on a pretty hot show. i'm WAY into the bassist and the sax player...but dave...i could do without him (and his drunkenness during the show).
THE DOG & EVERYTHING - these guys are a local indie band from chicago. i used to be totally in love with them, went to a million of their local shows! they used to put on a great performance! Augie (the bassist) especially was a spectacle because in the old days he would go crazy frolicking across the stage and playing very rhythmically challanging and interesting bass lines. Though per the release of thier second album...that all changed. He gave up is sassy bass for a fender and started playing with a pick - tragedy!
EMPYREAN - another chicago indie band. they rocked my socks when they were together in this ensemble!! They had driving guitar and drum riffs and very nice vocalizations! They have since dispanded - sadly and reformed as another group...that i'm not sure i care for much.
OPHUR - by far the BEST local act in Chicago that I've EVER seen...and sadly they are no more!! I've NEVER seen a crowd of such eclectic people respond so well to any local act. Thier guitarist built his own guitars, amps and pedals, thier bassist delivered SUPER FUNKY riffs while rocking the sexiest MusicMan I've seen (that is except for Flea of RHCP), and thier vocalist could deliver amazingly!!! I will never live as much as I've lived at thier shows!!
SLEEPING AT LAST - three brothers (?) they've kind of hit it big in the indie scene now. Also, a chicago based band! I first saw them open for Ophur and they really held thier own! Very calm melodic rock.
I NEED SLEEP - also local, they're an experimental comedy band. all i can say is that they make me giggle!
ANI DIFRANCO - WELL...i think she's pretty self explanitory! 3x i've seen her! HOT!
THAT1GUY - his performance was AMAZING!! he built his own totally rediculous instrument so that he could layer and trigger a huge series of sounds to create the sonic illusion of a whole band! but it's just one...one guy! he also is super sweet. he spent quite a while talking with my band mate and i about his geeky tactics!
MUSE - ohhhh yeah!! i have a music crush on muse...i want my music to marry thier music!
RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS - so first...I DREAM OF BEING AS GOOD AS FLEA! I used to specificly aspire to playing bass like Flea! I tried for years to go to an rhcp concert...and somehow it always failed until Lallapalooza last year! And it was amazing!
I think those are most of the good and great concerts i've been to...I'm sure I've forgoten a few...and when I recall them I'll add em to the list!
Tonight I am frolicking to Park West again to catch this pretty sassy band, The Last Goodnight. I think I've blogged about them before. but check em out!
Ron Meza - Rocks My Socks - And the socks of Paris!
This summer I interned with a sound designer of 20th Century Fox!
He'd been in Paris for part of the summer and he sent me a bundle of photographs of him rockin out! Before he was a sound designer he was an infamous jazz musician!
Ron Meza (right) - doin his thing...wish I could have been there!
