Life 5,000 miles away from Main Campus
A Philadelphia native, I have never traveled very far from home. Throughout my youth I had only been to a handful of cities. All of which were on the east coast of the United States. I have always wanted to see the rest of the world and that is why I chose to study abroad in Rome, Italy. I am the first person in my family to travel outside the United States. My family shows so much excitement about and support for me being here learning and living within another culture. So this is what drove me to embark upon this wonderful journey called Roma, Italia.
I have been living in Rome for 3 months in an apartment not far from Temple’s Rome campus which is located along the Tiber River. During my first month here it took me sometime to get adjusted to the Italian culture but now I love pizza and pasta just like the Italian natives do. Rather than buying pizza by the slice you buy by the weight, it comes out much cheaper and as a college student that in the best deal ever but if you are very hungry it could get a little pricey (trust me I found this out the hard way.)
After you get pass the initial culture stock and get adjusted to living in Italy. You will find that living in Rome is just like living in many other busy cities, except for the fact that you are 5,000 miles away from home. Where else in the world could you have class in front of the colsseum or inside St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican; which is its own city state inside of Rome. This transforms the classroom experience to an interactive learning opportunity and what student wouldn’t like that.
Until next time….
Ciao,
Jason
