THE BOOK HAVEN
As an avid reader I find myself frequently ordering off Amazon.com. Typically I know what I am looking for and simply click around before finding the cheapest book. The big chains such as Barnes & Nobles and Borders no long carry the community “gem” appeal they once hindered business upon. I find myself ordering my books online and reading them at local coffee houses in the greater Philadelphia region.
In my first blog entry I mentioned finding my “safe haven” coffee shop Mugshots. It took me nearly a year of living on Fairmount Street too find another great jewel in the reading community. While exploring the art museum area I came across Book Haven, a two story used book store on 22nd and Fairmount. The book store has an old fashion touch with a friendly old greeter and wall after wall full of classics, novels, encyclopedias, and everything in between.
Finding these little shops remind me of Philadelphia’s vibrant art community. I recommend strolling down Fairmount on a sunny afternoon and stopping by the Book Haven before retiring to Mugshots for a cup of coffee for some peace of mind.
