April

Hey again! It's been a while since I've written anything because things have been pretty hectic...
I just got back from urban beats practice. Our urban beats team has been working pretty hard trying to get our act together before the show next week. We'll be selling tickets all next week for the show which is Friday, May 8th! It should be a good show for anyone who wants to come :)
In between school work and dancing, I've been spending a decent amount of time volunteering at the Jewish Home. As part of my service learning project in Nursing 140, we need to do 20 hours of community service so I've been doing mine there. I actually just finished my hours today. It was a really good experience and only a 5 minute walk or so. A lot of the people there have grown up in Scranton so it's really interesting to talk to them and hear stories.
The weather up here has been absolutely fabulous- warm and sunny most days. It even got up into the 80s this weekend! It's hard to get into the work mode when it's so nice outside, especially when all the other schools are just about finished for the summer if not already out! We are finished May 22nd but I guess that's what happens when you have an incredibly long Christmas break! Second semester was definitely even better than the first semester so I'll actually be pretty sad when it's over...
Well, I promise to give an update in the near future! :) Talk to ya then!

Late March

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb...at least that's what I've always heard. Speaking strictly about the weather, this is definitely true. Even up here in Scranton, the weather has been pretty mild for the most part. It's still chilly, especially on damp, cloudy days like this one, but I'm starting to feel the onset of spring weather...or at least I hope I am!
I actually think everything else about the end of March is pretty mellow as well. Looking back on my last post, March Madness, things have definitely calmed down a bit since then. I feel nice and rejuvenated after a relaxing break at home and plan on sticking it out for another two weeks or so until it's time to go back home for Easter. Don't get me wrong, the workload hasn't let up at all but it seems like there's no rush to get everything done all at once. Spring break can do a world of good.
Today's Thursday so I'm just about ready for the weekend! One philosophy quiz to go and it's smooth sailing from there. I think I'll go to yoga tonight, too, since I shouldn't have much work to do. I'll post another update soon!

March Madness

Well, I am finally getting a minute to blog after a couple crazy weeks! I just got home for spring break yesterday afternoon. I stayed Friday and Saturday night instead of coming home because Saturday was the St. Patrick's Day parade so my cousin came up to visit! Parade day was crazy but a lot of fun. I think one of the highlights was definitely taking a break to refuel with some green waffles at brunch.
Academically, we've been going strong for six weeks so I was definitely ready for a break. I'm enjoying my classes a lot this semester, especially Nursing 140 and Philosophy. The Modern Jazz class I'm taking is a lot of fun, too. It'll be nice to have this week off so everyone can come back revived for another couple weeks before Easter! When I get back to school, I'm excited to start working at the Day Nursery for my service learning hours. I love little kids so I'm hoping it'll be fun!
Anyways, I've been thinking about studying abroad lately because I know that's definitely something I want to do but I'm torn over where I want to go. At first, I was set on going to Australia but now I'm thinking Argentina...Italy...I can't decide! But that's everything that's going on with me! Be back to blog more soon! Hope you have a good St. Patrick's Day tomorrow!

Back to Scranty-town!

Back up to school on Superbowl Sunday! I'm sure a lot of people arranged their move-in around the game...I know my dad did! On the other hand, my cousin Kelly and I decided to run errands in Dickson City during that time. We figured no one else would be out and to be quite honest, once the Raven's were out of the running, I lost all interest. However, I did pop in to the girl's room next door to catch a glimpse of the halftime show.
Anyways! I've been back at school now for a little over a week, getting back into the swing of things. It's nice to have some new classes and new teachers this semester. Everyone seems to be a lot happier with their schedules (or the freshmen at least) because they could actually sign up for the class times they wanted this semester.
I can already tell this semester is going to be a busy one but that can be a good thing. I tend to get more done when I am busy...
Urban beats has been practicing a lot lately as well because we have four performances this weekend! Two of the dances are on the night of Valentine's Day which is an inconvenience for some but a relief for others...! We've been changing, tweaking, and adding on to our dances so that falling back on the old routine is not even an option.
That's about all I've been up to but I'll write again soon...Happy (early) Valentine's Day! :)

2009

Happy New Year! I hope everyone's had an awesome Christmas and New Year. Nothing is better than home for the holidays. I've been spending a lot of time with friends, babysitting, and relaxing. I've also been going to Bikram (hot!) yoga with my mom pretty regularly. It's about 105 degrees in the classroom and the class is 90 minutes long. The first time is miserable but I'm actually starting to enjoy going! They have a Bikram yoga right near school so I'm thinking about keeping up with it once I get back.
A lot of the schools have started going back already and some of the students at Scranton are back at school for intersession. Personally, I'm glad I stayed home because I'm looking forward to another 3 weeks of relaxing.
That's really all that has been going on here but I'll be sure to write once I'm back in Scranton. Enjoy the rest of your time off if there's any left!

Holiday Season

So I haven't written anything in a while so I thought I might as well update my blog! Thanksgiving break was much-needed and very relaxing. I actually got to go home a little early because some of my classes were canceled, which was awesome. I hadn't seen a couple of my friends since summer so it was really good to see them and catch up. We always have Thanksgiving dinner at my house and this year was an especially big group (about twenty-five people) so that was really fun, too! It's hard to believe that there are only two weeks after Thanksgiving break until we are back home for Christmas! I actually started some Christmas shopping today...on the fourth floor of DeNaples. They had a cute Christmas bazaar set up so I ended up buying a few gifts for family and friends (and myself).
Right now is dead week, which is the week right before exams. We aren't supposed to have any major tests or assignments this week but I managed to have a chemistry test Monday and a biology practical tomorrow. Studying for Chemistry on Sunday night was a little overwhelming. I really don't know why I even bring my books home because I never seem to use any of them. I did manage to pull off a B on that test though so that was good! It's been crazy studying for this practical, too. There is so much stuff to know but at least I've been able to manage my time better with this one.
Last night, I went to dinner at Aroma Cafe across the street with a few girls from my hall before I headed over to the Advent prayer service at the chapel. My panini was delicious as always and the prayer service was really nice. I was a little bit rushed to get to dance practice on time but it turned out fine. After dance, I met up with a few friends for a late-night study session for the practical. The night was a little on the busy side for me!
I'm about to go over to the open lab before grabbing dinner but I'll make sure I post something again soon!
Happy Holidays! :)

Hello!

Hey everyone! I'm excited to finally start writing about what has been going on with me this year! I'll start with telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Cecelia. I'm a freshman nursing major from Maryland. My cousin, Kelly, is a senior here and my uncle Tim is a Jesuit and professor here. I went to a small all-girls school before this and have made a really good adjustment so far!
I honestly don't know where the time has gone since I've been here. It feels like summer just ended! On the other hand, September does seem a long way back once I think about it. In high school, school never seemed to go by this fast though. So much has happened in so little time.
September was all about meeting tons of new people and really trying to stay on top of my work. I'd say I've been handling the work load pretty well. My high school must have prepared me well!
September was also when I tried out for urban beats, which is a hip-hop dance team. My cousin, Kelly, told me that it was no big deal and to just try out for fun so there I was thinking try-outs were gonna be a couple of people just joking around, really laid-back. Wrong. I get there and find half the gym packed with people trying out, all of which were intimidatingly good at dancing. I didn't really have time to look at anyone else, what with sweat streaming down my face, but that was the impression I got. I tried out with one other girl on my floor so we would always come back and just practice over and over again until we basically collapsed into bed. Anyway, to make a long story short, I made the team and have been having a blast with it since! It's been a really good way for me to meet people and get involved. Practices are two hours long twice a week but I've never found them to interfere with anything I've had to get done before. They are usually in the evenings or at night so I can get my work and whatever else done beforehand.
I still can't believe October is over already! It was so nice to go home for fall break for that long weekend. I hadn't seen my house, my friends, or my dogs since summer so that was a really nice break. Living in a dorm really makes you appreciate how nice home is (!) Midnight Madness and Halloween stand out when I think about October as well. Midnight Madness was the first time urban beats, suburban beats (which was hilarious), the dance team, and the cheerleaders performed to get people pumped up for the basketball team. Last week, we all got dressed up for Halloween (I was a candy corn witch) which is always fun. Halloween kind of kicks off the holiday season so now I'm in holiday mode and ready for Thanksgiving! My roommate's birthday was in October, also, so that was another fun weekend of events in celebration of her turning 18!
Speaking of being 18, how about the election? This was the first time I've ever voted. My roommate and I got a ride up to the Jewish school in a van decked out in Obama posters. We felt a little ridiculous climbing out of the Obama-mobile but that just made the experience all the more memorable.
Well, that's it for now. I'll update soon!
