Youssou N'Dour Concert and Thanksgiving Break
Hey everyone,
I hope you all had a great weekend, got home safely, and enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner. We most definitely had a short week but I can just imagine how busy it was trying to cram in last minute assignments. I always try to get as much work done before break because I know nothing is going to get done at home. On Friday the 21st, Dr. Michael Fawlin "You Don't Know Me...Until You Know Me" performed a one man skit on various issues including diversity, gender issues, inclusion and many more, This was an eye-openning experience which left many people in tears. It is very important to accept people's differences and Dr. Fawlin did a great job illustrating that.
My weekend was filled with work, work, and more work. My goal was to complete my outline for my History test on the 3rd. Yes. I know I'm an overachiever, I just can't help it. But of course this did not happen. I relaxed a lot after 5 hours in the library on Saturday. A relaxing weekend can not be complete unless theres a trip to the mall. Yes I started Christmas shopping before Black Friday I couldn't help it.
With only 5 classes before break, I was home free. The bus ride to the Bronx was quick on Tuesday night. The bus driver made it in less than 2 hours. He told us that he was in a rush to start his weekend. I knew exactly how he felt. When I got home, my senior portraits were waiting for me. I thought they were good enough. However, the packages are very expensive. You should definitely start saving now for senior dues. You even have to pay to graduate!!! Enough about senior stuff, I'm starting to feel old.
On Wednesday, my friend Beza came to town. I studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal (West Africa)with Beza during my sophomore year. This was the first time I saw her since May 2007. We went to a Senegalese restaurant in Harlem. The food was amazing. We're both vegetarians so we had grilled fish with cous cous and plantains. O yea nostalgia was right around the corner. The fun doesn't end there, later on that night, we went to an African Ball concert at Nokia Theatre in Times Square. The headliner was Youssou N'Dour, the best African musician alive. However, there was a surprise guest, my favorite Senegalese singer, Mbaye Dieye Faye. When I was in Senegal he performed at my school and I danced with him on stage. I did the same @ this concert. I still can't believe I danced in front of hundreds of people. It was definitely worth it.
Turkey day had nothing on this experience. I enjoyed eating mac and cheese and rice on Thanksgiving. It was nice to be around family and just talk and relax. I would continue writing but I'm stuffed and have to get ready to shop tomorrow for those Black Friday door busters. Continue enjoying break and I'll talk to you soon.
