Youssou N'Dour Concert and Thanksgiving Break

Hey everyone,
I hope you all had a great weekend, got home safely, and enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner. We most definitely had a short week but I can just imagine how busy it was trying to cram in last minute assignments. I always try to get as much work done before break because I know nothing is going to get done at home. On Friday the 21st, Dr. Michael Fawlin "You Don't Know Me...Until You Know Me" performed a one man skit on various issues including diversity, gender issues, inclusion and many more, This was an eye-openning experience which left many people in tears. It is very important to accept people's differences and Dr. Fawlin did a great job illustrating that.

My weekend was filled with work, work, and more work. My goal was to complete my outline for my History test on the 3rd. Yes. I know I'm an overachiever, I just can't help it. But of course this did not happen. I relaxed a lot after 5 hours in the library on Saturday. A relaxing weekend can not be complete unless theres a trip to the mall. Yes I started Christmas shopping before Black Friday I couldn't help it.

With only 5 classes before break, I was home free. The bus ride to the Bronx was quick on Tuesday night. The bus driver made it in less than 2 hours. He told us that he was in a rush to start his weekend. I knew exactly how he felt. When I got home, my senior portraits were waiting for me. I thought they were good enough. However, the packages are very expensive. You should definitely start saving now for senior dues. You even have to pay to graduate!!! Enough about senior stuff, I'm starting to feel old.

On Wednesday, my friend Beza came to town. I studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal (West Africa)with Beza during my sophomore year. This was the first time I saw her since May 2007. We went to a Senegalese restaurant in Harlem. The food was amazing. We're both vegetarians so we had grilled fish with cous cous and plantains. O yea nostalgia was right around the corner. The fun doesn't end there, later on that night, we went to an African Ball concert at Nokia Theatre in Times Square. The headliner was Youssou N'Dour, the best African musician alive. However, there was a surprise guest, my favorite Senegalese singer, Mbaye Dieye Faye. When I was in Senegal he performed at my school and I danced with him on stage. I did the same @ this concert. I still can't believe I danced in front of hundreds of people. It was definitely worth it.

Turkey day had nothing on this experience. I enjoyed eating mac and cheese and rice on Thanksgiving. It was nice to be around family and just talk and relax. I would continue writing but I'm stuffed and have to get ready to shop tomorrow for those Black Friday door busters. Continue enjoying break and I'll talk to you soon.

What a week!

Finally, the time has come...no not Thanksgiving Break but my birthday!!

Yesterday, I turned 21! I was surrounded by friends and family to celebrate this wonderful event. I was shocked to see how many people remembered (thanks to facebook). The best parts of the day was the countdown to midnight, birthday cake at work, and dinner at Coopers. For those of you who do not know about Coopers, Coopers is the best seafood place in Scranton. Its located about a 5 minute drive off campus or a 15 to 20 minute walk. On your birthday, you receive a free meal when someone buys an entree. So yea, Coopers is definitely the place to be.

Everything is not all fun and games though. Fall is really here. It has gotten really cold lately and I hate bundling up. I woke up to the site of snow. I like the snow but I do not like the cold. I think its going to be a brutal winter, more reason to spend extra time in the library with a chi tea in hand.

Remember I told you that I was going to keep you posted on my post-graduate endeavours, well the time has come...I did not get neither the Teach for America gig or MATCH Corps. Yes I was sad at first but I wasn't going to let this mess up my birthday week. Everything happens for a reason so.... I have learned to move on and there's a pile of other jobs to apply to. So I'll definitetly will keep you posted and one of these days the title of my blog will be "I GOT A JOB!!!"

Well its about that time for me to get ready for class. Have a great weekend, get as much work done as possible before break, and if you see me on the Commons or Royal way, don't hesitate to say "HI". Hasta luego.

Short yet eventful week

I hope everyone had an eventful weekend. Unfortunately my weekend didn't start off so good. I was cleaning up my room while listening to music on my laptop and all of a sudden Jazmine Sullivan kept on hitting the same high not. I tried everything to stop the song but nothing worked. I finally pressed the power button. After that, every time I turned my computer on, a black screen would appear. To make a long story short, my hard drive needs to be repaired and I am computerless. Instead of crying I watched House all night.

Saturday, I went to Ellis Island with my RA and other students. It was not the best day to get away but it was nice to get away for a little. Our trip down to Lincoln Park in Jersey was interesting. The bus driver got lost numerous times and was upset about all the tolls he was paying do to him getting lost. We finally made it but we missed the ferry and the next one was 45 minutes away. My friend and I were determined to touch New York City soil. We visited the Ellis Island Museum which was really interesting. After the museum, we took a ferry to NYC, had Chipotle and made it back to Jersey in do time. Once we got back to campus, we had dinner and went to go see Madagascar 2 Escape to Africa. That is one funny movie. I do not care what anyone says, that is an adult movie. So yes I had a wonderful weekend after all.

I only had a 2 day week. I left Scranton on Tuesday night because I have an interview in Boston on Thursday. It was nice to be home for a little. I'll let you know how it went next week. I should also have word about Teach for America so next weekend will be filled with excitement especially because my birthday is on Wednesday. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Still Shocked!!

Hello there!!
I hope you all are doing well. It has been a crazy yet exciting week. I can't believe how quickly this semester is going. Senior year definitely flies by. I don't know if I should cry or be happy. Enough about that. I do not even know where to start. I guess I'll start from where I left off last week.

As the majority of campus ranted and raved about the Phillies victory, I was busy studying for my economic test. I'm from the Bronx so I am a die hard Yankees fan. I enjoyed spending time with my education friends on Halloween being that I rarely see them. While they are student teaching, I am taking 21 credits. My weekend was filled with books, books, and more books. Want to hear something funny? Every year, without fail, the end of daylight savings always gets me. I went to the 11 o'clock mass and was greeted by a closed door. I was actually there at 10.

This week was filled with excitment. I received more information about a teaching job in Boston after graduation so I am off to Boston next week. Last night, I stayed up watching CNN until 1am. I am still overwhelmed with excitement and eager to see where we go as a Nation. Today I was featured in the Scranton Record for receiving a Hispanic scholarship. I must say this has been the best week ever. I hope your week was as good as mine. If you have not gotten the memo, there's an open house on Sunday. I will be at the Honors Program table so I hope to see you there.

Have a good week!
