My First BLOG!
Hello everyone!!! I am really excited to finally start blogging. Before I do, I want to introduce myself just so you can get to know me a little bit better. My name is Pattie Vongsoasup, (my real name is Patra but everyone knows me as Pattie) and I am a Junior here at the University of Scranton. I am currently studying Health Administration, with minors in Human Resources and Business. I know its not something you usually see, but I feel I have a good mix of academics! I'm from West Orange, NJ and graduated from West Orange High School in 2006. I'm involved with different things on campus. I'm on the Womens Crew Team, Health Administration Society (Treasurer), Liva Arts Club, SEL (Scranton Emerging Leaders), and on the side I do Judo (I am working for my green belt!) So there's some small information about myself and what I do here at the University, but let me fill you in on whats going on this semester.
So, this semester I would say is probably the most time consuming out of any of the semesters I have been here. I am taking 19 credits (7 classes - one is a 1 credit class) and on top of that I am doing all those activities that I mentioned above. Besides the heavy load, this semester is probably one of my most favorite because I am taking really interesting classes that I enjoy so I don't mind at all. There's this one class I am taking called Workforce/Education and Training for Human Resources and let me just say it is quite a challenge. My grade is based upon a training session that me and two others have to implement for one hour at a company about a certain topic. My group will be giving an one hour training session training session at Moses Taylor Hospital - Home Health dept (nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, etc) about the aspects of team building. Fun right? Well it is fun putting it all together, but from what I am getting from their needs assessment isn't good news. It seems like we will be having a tough group of workers because they appear not so enthused about this training session. So any suggestions on how to make them interested? I guess that's the challenge, but we decided to take a positive approach and gear it towards Generation Diversity and Team Building (I know those from Quest Diagnostics are reading yes! we did that during the summer!). It should be interesting and my internship experience in the summer with Quest Diagnostics will be such a big help.
Also, this weekend was quite interesting to say the least. The crew team went to its first regatta down in Philly called Head of the Schuylkill and it was so much fun and really rainy. We didn't come in last, but all the boats did amazing and I am so proud of the team on how we did. Yay! But this weekend wasn't also the best. A student and someone I knew, John Pflug, passed away and it really impacted the University of Scranton community. He was a great kid and I played on his Dodgeball Team freshman and sophomore year and what happened this weekend just was really upsetting. He was a really good dodgeball player, a close friend to many, and a great person in our community. My prayers go out to his family and his close friends. RIP John, I will never forget the Stingrays.
I hope you enjoyed my first blog! Leave me some comments, I love getting feedback from anyone. Enjoy the rest of your week!
