Welcome Back Week

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, I know I did. We had a three-day weekend because of Labor Day. It's nice to have a break after the first week of classes, I know it was nice for me. Last week was crazy! With classes and meetings and work I was running around campus. Now that I have had a great weekend to relax and just take time to myself and everything is starting to fall into place I'm slowly getting back to the swing of things.

You might be wondering why I named this week’s blog "Welcome Back Week" considering it's the second week of school. Well in the past we have done a Welcome Back Weekend, sponsored by the University of Scranton Programming Board (USPB for short), that happened during Labor Day weekend. This year USPB and Student Government decided to join forces and make it an entire week! So, Sunday was the dedication of our new campus green, the Dionne Green. Tuesday was the 2nd Annual Alma Mater Showdown. This was based on a bet to a senior last year by our Dean of Students. The bet was that most of Scranton students didn't know our Alma Mater. The senior accepted the bet and decided to create the Alma Mater Showdown. It was such a big hit last year, they decided to make it a tradition from here on out. The concept of the Alma Mater showdown is to see which class has the most school pride by seeing how many students from a particular class would show up. Last year the Class of 2008 (the seniors won). My class, Class of 2010, came in second last year. So this year my class was seeking 1st place. But yet again we came in second but not to the senior class but the Class of 2011, the current sophomore class. I love this event so much because it shows how much school pride not only each class has but the school as a whole! Hence why I love Scranton so much is because of the sense of community. You will be hearing me say that over and over and over again because it's so true.

Monday USPB sponsored a movie night which was a great success. Tomorrow, Thursday, USPB/Student Government is sponsoring a Street Fair. It's going to have many vendors giving away things to students. It has never been done before but I think it's going to be a hit. Friday USPB is sponsoring a Coffeehouse event. Coffeehouse is the committee that brings bands and talent to the university. To wrap up Welcome Back Week Student Government is asking everyone to come out and support the Men's Soccer Game.

Well it's the second week of school and I already have a load of homework to do. I hope your week is great and check back next week!

Peace and Love!

Welcome to my Junior Year!

I would like to welcome those who are new to my blog and welcome back those who have been here before! I'm really excited to start this again this year!

Before I start, I would like to introduce myself to those who do not know me. My name is Robert Duliba and I'm a member of the Class of 2010. I'm starting my junior year here at the university and I'm very excited. I come for a small town, when I say small I mean very small (a square mile big), called West Pittston (it's 20 minutes south of Scranton). I'm a Communications/Public Relations major (hopefully picking up advertising as well). I would say that I'm pretty involved on campus. Currently I'm one of three Team Leaders for our Orientation program, one of three Coordinators of a Freshman only retreat called Connections, a Co-Chair of University of Scranton's Programming Board, USPB for short, Comedy Committee, and I'm the Resident Assistant of a sophomore floor in Redington Hall. This is probably just a bunch of jargon to your right now and you probably don't even know what I'm talking about. What I plan on doing this year is highlighting everything that I'm involved with, along with what goes on during the week.

The purpose of these blogs that I and my fellow peers write is to see what an average day of a Scranton student is. From waking in the morning to going to bed at night, you will get to see what actually a Scranton student does inside and outside of the classroom. By reading these blogs the goal is for you to become more familiar with Scranton and what it has to offer. Honestly, how often to you get to see what a college student does from day to day? I would venture a guess to say not that often. Well, here ya go! You have come to the right place to find out all of this and more.

---

It's only the third day of school and it's extremely crazy! I was here two weeks before classes even started for Resident Assistant (RA) training. And before that I was in Scranton all summer working for our Orientation program. My job was, literally, plan New Student Orientation. Overwhelming right?! Let me just tell you I have never learned so much in my entire life. It was the greatest experience that I have ever had! So, anyways, I was up here for two weeks before school getting trained to be an RA. Then on Saturday, August 23, was freshman move in day. If you haven't heard about freshman move in day let me tell you just a bit about it. Let's imagine that you are a freshman student moving into a resident hall. You drive up to your location and 30 move in volunteers swarm your car and carry everything for you up to your room! How awesome is that?! You probably have never heard of that happening on any other campus? Returning students volunteer their time to help move in the freshman class. That just shows you the type of community here at Scranton. I can't even explain it myself, it's that amazing! I feel so welcome, so invited here at Scranton. If you were to ask any Scranton student what their most favorite thing about Scranton is, I bet you that at some point they will say they love the sense of community! It really shows during freshman move in day. Then on Sunday it was upperclassmen move in. So I was on my floor greeting my residents. Then classes started on Monday! Let me just tell you that I have the greatest schedule. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's I don't start until 2pm! Tuesday and Thursday's I don't start until 1pm! Did I luck out or did luck out?! I love all of my classes. Especially my English class because it is taught by the president of our university, the Rev. Scott Pilarz, S.J. The S.J. stands for the Society of Jesus or in short terms he is a Jesuit. I have only had the class once and I love it. How many people get to say that they had a class with the president of their school? Not many.
Besides my classes I got bombarded with meetings this week. I've been running all over campus these past three days going to meetings. It might seem crazy to you but I love it. Personally, I do ten times better in school when I'm running around and being busy all the time. There are still two more days left during the week and we get a long weekend because of Labor Day!

Well that is just a "short" summary of what I have been up to. I hope you have an idea of what I'm up to here at Scranton. Please check back every week for I will be updating my blog weekly.

If you have any questions, any questions at all, PLEASE e-mail me with your questions. I promise I will get back to you. My e-mail is dulibar2@scranton.edu.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you check back next week!

Peace and Love!

Midsemester brings Midterms

Hey Guys! Sorry it's been a while since my last blog. I've been crazy busy with work, Orientation, ResLife, and school.

So, it's midterm time. Let me tell this is my first semester of every having midterms for my classes. Let me just give you a rundown of my schedule. Monday, I had two papers due; one being a reflection paper for Philosophy and a term paper for my Logical and Rhetorical class. Tuesday I had a certification test for my CPR class. Wednesday I had the first part of my Intro to Fiction class, a quiz in Philosophy, and a midterm in Logical. Thursday I have a midterm for my Writing for Communication class. Finally, Friday, I have my second part of my English midterm and a theology paper due. It's a very busy and full schedule for me. It's rough but I'm getting through it.

Spring break is coming up, March 16-24. I can't wait for break! I've been working since the first day of the semester; it's time for a break. This year, we are still in session for Scranton's infamous Parade Day. If you don't know about Scranton's Parade Day, let me tell you about it. As you know St. Patrick's Day is coming up and every Saturday before St. Patty's Day, Scranton holds Parade Day. This parade is the 3rd largest in the nation! So, it's a pretty exciting day. I haven't yet to experience what is Parade Day but I've only heard stories. Last year we were already on break from school and this year I'm on duty for the day for ResLife. I hope next year I'll get to experience Parade Day. I suggest if you are ever in the area during Parade Day to go to the parade. It's always a great time, from what I've been told.

For break I'm just going home. I haven't truly been home since January 3, so it's time for me to go home and spend time with family and friends. I'm just going to be relaxing the entire time I'm home and going to love every minute.

Okay, it's still midterms and I need to go back to studying. I hope you have a great week. I'll see you when I get back from break.

Cya!

Spring Semester is in Bloom

Hello everyone! I know it's been a long time since I blooged and I'm very excited to be back.

Let me start with what happened during Intersession. If you don't know what Intersession is, I'll explain because a lot of people do not know. Intersession is the University's Winter Break. We have a month and a half off which is really nice. During this break the "U" offers classes that students can take if they want to. I was here for Intersession, not to take class but to work for Orientation. I and the other Team Leaders for Orientation were planning Spring Transfer Orientation. I had work everyday from 10am - 4pm. I was also here for RA, so I got to work and live up here during Intersession. It was very relaxing and I enjoyed every minute of it. Also, during Intersession, the brand new Patrick and Margaret DeNaples Student Center opened (unofficially). The brand new facility is amazing. Let me just give you a quick run-down of the building; this building is replacing the old Gunster Student Center. On the first floor is the Mailing Center & mailboxes, the Bookstore, the Convenience Store, Quizno's, Zoca (Mexican Grill), Brick Oven (makes pizza), Chik-Fil-A, and Starbuks! The second floor has mainly offices and an amazing fireplace lounge. The third floor is the amazing cafe. Finally the fourth floor has a huge ballroom, auditorium (it's like a movie theater), and three meeting rooms. The building is, again, amazing. The University had really out-done themselves and a long-waited building for our growing community.

Now, Spring Semester is in full swing. This is the going to be a great semester. This semester I'm taking Logical and Rhetorical Analysis, Writing for Communication, Theology II, Philosophy, Intro to Fiction, and First Aid/CPR/AED Certification. So far I love all of my classes. Also worked into my course work I'm taking Scranton Emerging Leaders (SEL) 2 (a leadership course), I'm facilitating SEL 1, RA, and Orientation. This is going to be a very busy semester. I really can't wait. What's amazing to me is that I'm going to be finished with my second year here at the U. I'll be half way finished with my college career here at the U. It's very exciting and also very scary. I have to start thinking about what I what to do with my life. Do I want to go to graduate school or jump right into the real world? I never imagined answering these questions so early in my life but I'm going to have to and soon.

That's what's going on right now. Check back next week to see what I'm up to!

Cya!

Dead Week, If That

Hey Guys! I know I haven't been keeping up with these and I'm sorry. So much as happened since the last time I've blogged.

Since the Office Convention I've been really busy with classes and Orientation work. With classes it's the same old same old; papers, tests, and home work. With Orientation we just got finished interviewing people and picking our team (our PURPLE PEOPLE, as we like to call them)! We are very excited for this year! We, I mean myself and my fellow team leaders, have a lot of new ideas that we want to bring to the table to make next years Orientation exciting and enjoyable for all.

One big event that happened in my life occurred at the start of the month. Our school offers retreats to go on and I got selected to go on the Search Retreat. Let me just explain Search; Search is a 3 day retreat that happens over the weekend and the main focus of the retreat is all about self-reflection. At first I was the type of person was like "Okay, I heard that the retreats here are good and this is a chance for me to just get away and relax." Well did I get a rude and great awakening. Again, as I said before that this retreat is all about self-reflection and boy did I ever do that. From a three day retreat I learned so much about myself and the life that I was living. Before retreat my life was very hectic and seemed very disjointed. I now know that yes what I am doing right now is very important but I need to take time out of my schedule to sit down and just relax. My life now is very much less stressful. I concern myself less with things that are little and petty. I know respect my relationships that I have with my family and friends much more than I used to. Search for me was life changing and as previous Searchers say "Search comes at a time when you need it the most."

This past weekend was very eventful. On Friday was USPBs (University of Scranton Programing Board) annual Royal Ball. This years theme was 'A Red Carpet Affair'. Let me just tell you I had so much fun and it was ten times better than the proms I went to in high school. It was just a great time to be with my friends and get away from school and relax before finials. Let me just tell you that they had a ton of cake and desserts and finger food and it made the rest of my night! Then on Sunday was the Advent Mass and Annual Tree Lighting and Christmas on the Commons. Just as last year it was amazing! The mass was beautiful, the tree lighting was joyous, and Christmas on the Commons was full of singing Christmas songs and cookies and I can't forget the hot chocolate.

Now, it's dead week. For those of you who don't know that I'm talking about, dead week is the week before finials week. So, right now I'm finishing up all of my class work and starting my prep work for finials week with officially starts next Tuesday and goes to Saturday. Then my 3rd semester here at the U will be finished. When I look back on this semester I realize how FAST it went by. It's almost scary that I'm almost half way finished with my college career here at the University of Scranton.

Well the next time I see you is during finials week!

Have a good one!

The Office Convention = AMAZING!

WOW!!! That is all that I can say right now.

For those of you who did not hear about what was going on this weekend, the first EVER The Office Convention was held in Scranton. No, it wasn't an office convention with office supplies and things like that. It was a convention for the hit NBC show The Office. Let me break down my past two days experiencing The Office Convention:

Day One

Al Roker from The Today Show came do to the weather and interview members from the cast. I was up at 4:50am, that's right AM!!!! I turned on the news when I got up and there was already hundreds of people at the base of the commons where they were going to shoot for the morning. I thought 5am was early, apparently people were up WAY before that. Anyways, I got to work at 5:30am and we started passing out t-shirts for kids to wear during the show. By the time Al Roker showed up there had to over a thousand people there. When Al Roker did show up the crowd went WILD! My job for the morning was to work security and make sure no one got through the barricades; which means I got to be in there area where Al Roker was in. So I got to meet him and be on national television. Al Roker was also interviewing cast members from The Office. Before hand we were told that Angela Kinsey (Angela) and Brian Baurmgartner (Kevin) were the only two going to be there. We were wrong; 9, in total, cast members showed up:
Creed Bratton (Creed)
Kate Flannery (Meredith)
Angela Kinsey (Angela)
Bobby Ray Shafer (Bob Vance)
Brian Baurmgartner (Kevin)
Craig Robinson (Darryl)
Leslie David Baker (Stanley)
Phyllis Smith (Phyllis)
Oscar Nunez (Oscar)
:and and got to meet them all! They were all such an amazing people and they kept saying they didn't expect the warm welcome and the turn out at the Today Show.

Later that night we got to participate in "The Office Olympics". Flonkerton, Skeet Shurting, Office Inventory, and H.O.R.S.E. were all there and I got to play them all. It was all surreal when I was playing them. It was such and amazing night.

Day Two

Day two did not start as early as day one did which was nice. For most of the morning it rained so everything became hectic and things got moved around. The first thing of the day was the Ribbon Cutting. The cast showed up for it as with the Mayor of Scranton, writers from the show, the director, and government representatives. It was a great way to start off the day. There was also a street festival and the finials for The Office Olympics. The biggest event that day was the Actor Q and A. All the actors from The Today show were there plus: Mindy Kaling (Kelly), Ed Helms (Andy), Melora Hardin (Jan), and Andy Buckley (David Wallace). They answered questions that were submitted on-line and at the end of the Q&A they answered questions from the audience. It was funny and everyone in the audience and the cast members had a great time.

The highlight of my night came when I got to go to a VIP dinner. At the dinner was our president, Fr. Pilarz, different campus staff, and the cast from The Office. It was another surreal moment for me. I got to eat dinner with Leslie (Stanley), Phyllis, their director of photography, and Fr. Pilarz. To sit across the table from people that I watch every week and think I would never be able to meet these people. It was such an amazing night; fireworks, dinner conversation with the cast, great food. I could have not asked for a better ending to a great day.

What can I say! This weekend will live in my memories forever! I wish that this happens every year. As Leslie David Baker said, "Maybe we'll be back for an office picnic!"

Back Into the Swing of Things...

Hey Guys! Welcome back to the student blogs!

Let me just tell you how AMAZING my Fall Break was. I have never slept soo much in my life. I also got to see all of my friends that I haven't seen for a month and half. So, me and my friends got together every day and just caught up on everything. This break was very needed for me to just relax and get away from school for a bit.

Now we are back into the swing of things. Unlike of most of my friends’ teachers who decided to give a bunch of work before Fall Break, my teachers are giving a lot work after break. This weekend I have two tests to study for and a paper to write. I just keep reminding myself that all of this work is going to pay off in the long run.

There is nothing to exciting happening on campus. This weekend is Open House! Open House, for those of you who don't know what it is; Open House is a time for prospective students to come to campus for the day, get information about admissions and the application process, get information from the major that you are looking at, maybe you are interested in a sport there will be representatives there to talk to, you can take a tour of campus, plus much more! For those of you who are looking at The University of Scranton and are interested in attending our Open House this Sunday, October 21 or Sunday, November 4 please go to http://matrix.scranton.edu/admissions/fa_open_house_rsvp.asp for more information!

See you guys at Open House!

¿Midterm?

It's been two weeks since I last did this and A LOT as happened in that time.

So far my classes have been great! I've been so happy since I switched my major from Bio-Chem to Communications. I'm enjoying my classes even my general education classes. Who knew? I actually enjoying going to class and enjoy reading the material for my classes. To you high school students that sounds like a stretch for you but trust me, once you get into something you love you'll put your heart and soul into it. My year, academic wise, has been pretty quite. Not to many test and papers. Last week was my first week I actually was bogged down with work. I had three tests and two papers due, all in the first three days of the week. So it was pretty hectic. Now its midterm week! I'm surprised that I don't have ANY tests or papers do when all my other friends have a test and paper due in every subject. I feel bad for them but excited that I don't have to go through that. Oh yeah, did I mention it's MIDTERM!!! I can't believe that I'm already half way finished with first semester as a sophomore. Before I know it I'll be a junior already.

Another exciting event that happened in my life was that I'll be one of three Team Leaders for 2008 Orientation!!! Let me explain this just a little bit. In a nut-shell Team Leader is a position in which the person plans every aspect of orientation. I had to go through an extensive application process, then an individual interview with the head of Orientation, and then an interview with the Dean of Students, an Area Coordinator from Resident Life (ResLife), and the office's secretary. So after going through all that I got chosen to be a Team Leader. So, all of you prospective students are planning to attend the University of Scranton or The "U", you'll be seeing me there!

To get my mind off of my academics and work I'm part of three intramural sport teams. Me and bunch of my friends have a volleyball team, dodge ball team, and get this a kickball team! We have games every week for them and they are the greatest. It's a great way to de-stress and have a great time with you friends. I suggest all of you, where ever you may go for college, to join an intramural sport; it will be the best decision of your life!

Well, I think I summed up everything that has happened from the past two weeks. Now I'm going to relax because I have nothing scheduled to do for the next couple of days Then Fall break starts this Friday; 5 days of catching up with my friends that I haven't seen in a month and a half and just relaxing over all!

Come back next week to see how my break went!

I've decided to end my blogs for the remainder of the month with quotes from "The Office" because of the first EVER The Office Convention that runs from October 26-28. For more information go to http://www.theofficeconvention.com

Michael Scott: Pam and Jim are together, Ryan is visiting. The only thing that could make this better is ice cream.

A Fresh Start...

Hey guys!!! I just wanted to say welcome back to the student blogs, for those of you who have checked-in in the past, and for those of you who are new I want to welcome you as well. I want to take this time, like I didn't last year when I first started this venture, to introduce myself. My name is Robert Duliba and I am a sophomore here at the University of Scranton. I have changed my major just recently over the summer. I am now a Communications/Public Relations major; a drastic change from my Biochemistry/Pre-Med major I was in last year. Everyone keeps asking me why did I change my major? It wasn't because of my grades, it wasn't because I didn't wanted to do all of the work that was involved, it was because I wasn't happy in my previous major and I've always want to be in Communications. So, here I am today, a Communications major and am very happy with the change. It is definitely a fresh start for me this year.

I have been extremely busy ever since last semester ended. I had a full-time job over the summer at the U's Visitor Center. I was an Orientation Assistant (OA) over the summer as well. I also moved in a week early to help with Transfer Orientation and Fall Move-In. Fall Move-In is when upper classmen with moving in all of the freshman. It's a lot of work but it's a nice way to show how great the community is here at Scranton; to the point where we'll move in stuff for freshman. So, pretty much I haven't had a break in a long time; hence why I am so excited for Fall Break next month.

Classes started 3 weeks ago. I'm taking 16 credits, that 5 classes plus a gym class. I'm taking Theology I, Communication Theory, Interpersonal Communication, Composition, Psychology, and Cardio Fitness. On top of those classes I'm very involved in a bunch of clubs. I'm currently in Yearbook where I'm the Junior Editor of the Student Life Session, I'm a member of USPB (University of Scranton Programming Board), I'm in CAC (Colleges Against Cancer) where I'm the co-chair for Advocacy, and I'm also a blogger. As you can see I'm very very busy!!!! In a way it's a good thing. I'm getting alot of say in what goes on here at the U. It's also keeping me on top of my studies as well; hard to believe but it is. During Orientation I told the incoming freshman that the only way to get the "full" college experience is to get involved. Yes you are coming to school first so never get in-over your head. Join things you are going to like not because your friends are joining it.

This is should be a great year! Not to mention that at the end of next month the first ever "The Office" convention is going to be held in Scranton. So, for those of you who are interested in The Office go to www.theofficeconvention.com for more information!

I've decided to do something new for this year. I'm going to end each of my blogs with a quote. So, here we go with the first one

If we always do what we've always done, we will get what we've always got

Finals...The End of Freshman Year

Yes, you guessed it! I'm officially finished being a freshman here at the University of Scranton. WOW! Where did the time go? Definitely for my first here in college and especially spending at the U, I had the greatest time of my life. I met great people, made life long friends, took difficult classes but learned so much from them, and just had an over-all AWESOME time here! I never really expected what came out of this year. I didn't expect to change my major, I didn't expect to pick up a minor, I didn't expect to apply for becoming an RA and then get the job, I didn't expect joining so many different and amazing clubs, I didn't expect to become so involved here at this amazing institution.

While my roommate and I were cleaning out our room, I started to see less and less stuff in the room. It really made me think about the first day of school when the room was bare and we both just started unpacking and the room became full. When we were all unpacked that first day of school I was like this is it, I'm in college! Now, seeing my room to its original state I was like wow I have one year of college down and only three more years to go! I was really sad to see my room like that. I had so many wonderful times in that room and while I was packing and would packing something, like a picture or a wristband, it really flooded the memories back that I had here. I'm so grateful that I decided to come here for school because I really don't see myself anywhere else now; Scranton is my life, Scranton is my school, Scranton is my home. Home; yes I know my home is where I grew up and lived for most of my life, but Scranton is also my home. This place is the only place I really grew as a person and learned so many different life lessons and made so many amazing friends. I love calling Scranton home.

So, now my freshman year is over!!! It's now summer break and I plan to soak it up! Besides work I'm being so lazy and relaxing and chilling out with my friends. After how much work I did during my freshman year, I deserve a break! I can't wait to hang out with all of my friends that I have missed dearly and spending time with my loving family. I plan on going to the beach a couple times in Jersey to visit my friends that live there, going to a couple amusement parks, and just relaxing.

Now, the next time you'll be seeing me, for those of you accepted freshman, is here around campus. For those of you who are accepted and plan on attending orientation, please find me, I'll be at orientation! I'll be a purple person in a purple polo with the nickname "ACH" on the back. When you see me be like "Hey Rob! I read your blogs on-line!" it will get my attention.

If any of you have question, comments, concerns, what to expect about college, what you might need to know, the ins and outs, anything...please e-mail me and I will respond to them or if you see me at orientation or when school is in and you see my on campus just yell my name and I will stop and help you out.

Have a great summer all! I will see you in the FALL!

Spring is ACTUALLY Here!

Hey guys, I'm sorry that it has been awhile since my last blog. My class schedule and work load has been crazy and loaded. So, now I finally have nothing to do and can sit down and write a blog.

ALOT has happened since my last blog; I won't go into great detail but I will highlight the big events that happened here on campus. As per my heading for this blog, the weather has been amazing here at Scranton. Temperatures near 70s almost everyday, expect for a few days it rained. Overall it has been AMAZING here! I like seeing all of the people out on the commons and around campus just sitting out in the amazing weather and just having a great time.

A couple weeks ago we had our Spring Concert! Paulson, The Starting Line, and Hawthorne Heights came to play for us in the Long Center. I didn't have the chance to go to it because I had to go home that weekend, but my friends said that it was a really good concert. All of the bands were amazing and my friends had a really great time.

Just last night we had Take Back the Night. This is nation wide event that helps people be aware of sexual violence, mainly against women. The event was a big hit! The event occurred on the entire commons. There were many tables informing people on different types of sexual assault and different options that are available for people that have been sexually assaulted. It was a great success!

Also, this week that I'm writing this blog, it is Support Life Week. It is a themed week here on campus where people are supporting life. The people running are just trying to get out there how precise life is and how valuable life is. There are many speakers coming in and talking about different types of issues from Abortion, Supporting Life, etc. It's a very important topic that they are trying to address and get people to be aware of how valuable life is.

I also got a new work-study job here at the U. I'm now working at the Visitor Center for the admissions office. It's pretty amazing where I work. I work with a lot of fun and interesting people. Deena and Kelsey are pretty cool. Just today Deena pranked phone called me pretending to be a prospective student’s mother. It was really funny; it must be like a whole iniation type thing. I think it's going to be fun working here!

I hope I got you caught up with everything that has been going on. There's only three more weeks left of school and my first semester will be over. Time really went by fast.

Cya!

SPRING IS HERE!!!

Hey guys! Long time since I've posted; you know how school is. Anyways not much has happened besides the usual.

Last week was Spring Break! It was really nice to have a week off from school. Going from the end of January to last week without a break was not good. Having a week off I got to relax, hang out with my friends that I haven't seen in awhile, work, and get some school work finished. I had a blast seeing my friends and hanging out not have to worry about school.

Now that I'm back to school, I ready have a mound of work and tests. This week I have my second Bio Practical. I've been studying for hours on end every night for it. Hopefully it will pay off and I'll do well this time around. Mid-semester grades also came out this week. I did MUCH better this time around. I'm really happy about this. I think it has to do with that I now know what to expect and know how to study for my classes and things along those lines. This Saturday I'm going to New York on a school trip. I can't wait! I've never been to NYC, so I'm hoping it will be a great time.

Also, very big news! The Programming Board, USPB, has announced the Spring Concert for this year. This year The Starting Line will be coming to the U along with Thursday. It should be a great show. If you live in the area I URGE you to come to the concert. They are always a great time and very inexpensive. They'll be putting on a concert style show in the Byron, so it should be a great time.

Spring has finally come! Today and for the rest of the week the temperature is supposed to be above 50 near 60. I'm very excited about this because I'm really sick of the cold weather and the snow. It will be nice to hang outside again and just relax in the nice weather.

Well, I have a mound of work to do. So until next week!

Cya!

PAST 2 WEEKS = AMAZING!!!

Hey! What's up guys? It's been two weeks since you last heard from me and let me tell you A LOT as happened!

Last Monday, the weather was calling for a snow storm to move in on Tuesday night and dump around a foot of snow. So, of course, everyone one on campus was already calling snow day for Wednesday. Everyone was just hyped to hear this news. Tuesday comes around and it didn’t' start snowing until early in the evening. First it started out as flurries and then turned into MASSIVE flakes and Tuesday night into Wednesday it dumped a foot and a half!!! They called no classes for Tuesday night first, and everyone was upset that they hadn’t called Wednesday off yet. Towards the end of the evening, around like 10pm, I called the Weather Hotline(the hotline that tells us if we have school or not) and heard the sweet sweet words of the recording: "The University of Scranton will be closed on Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Have a Happy Valentines Day!" Oh, did the U have a GREAT Valentines Day. So, we had Tuesday night and Wednesday off! Well to everyone’s surprise it snowed all day Wednesday and dropped another half a foot. So, yet again, Wednesday night the called school for the next day! TWO DAYS IN A ROW, I don't believe, has never happened in the U's immediate history. It was the greatest two days of my life. Me and my friends played snow football, went sledding, and had snowball fights.

So, that was my week last week; PRETTY AMAZING! So, to this week. I've been talking about how I've been in the interview process of becoming an RA. On Tuesday I found out the news on my position. I will be living in Fitch Hall, room 210. If anyone is familiar with the campus, Fitch is a freshman dorm. That means I will be the RA on second floor Fitch!!!! So, any of you that are going to be freshman next year and will be living on second floor Fitch, expect to see me!

Happenings on Campus
Mardi Gras was yesterday! Gunster had so much food and a chocolate fountain!!!!
RHA (Resident Hall Association) through a Mardi Gras party last night in the Long Center. They had food, music, and Mardi Gras King and Queen contest.
SDY Live is coming to the U on Friday! Free Concert!

Until next week!
Cya Later!

What a week!!

Hey guys! Hope everything is going well for everyone.

Recap of this weekend and what a weekend it was.
First, Friday all my friends took me out to dinner to celebrate my birthday it was soo much fun. Everyone had a blast. There's pictures below that you can look at. My friends are so amazing that they would to that for me. TO MY FRIENDS: YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME AND I LOVE YOU ALL!!! Also this weekend I had my very first RA interview! It was so nerve-racking. Let me explain how it went. A few days before the interview I was talking with all of my friends that are RAs, asking them questions about the interview and what type of questions that they might be asking me. I think they got sick of me coming to see them so much, but it helped me in the long run. My interview was on Friday night; let me just tell you that it was snowing really hard that night and I had to walk on the all the way to the other end of campus to Hyland Hall for my interview. I almost died just walking there. So anyways, I got there and waited for when it was my time to get interviewed. When it was my time there was an Area Coordinator there and four other current RAs there that ran my interview. First part of my interview I had to run a "mock" first floor meeting and how I would going about doing that. I think it went really well; they all seemed to enjoy my icebreaker and asking questions. Then it came time for the real hard-hitting questions. I think that went really well too. When it was over, they all seemed pretty happy and had a great time, which made me feel confident that I had a great interview. I had to wait until Wednesday to find out if I was going to get asked back for a second interview, which I did. The second interview doesn't mean I got the position or did, because not everyone got asked back and means the same thing. Now I have to get ready for this interview, which is a group one. I hope it goes really well and I end up getting an RA position, which will be really cool. So, all you freshman guys, LOOK OUT, I can just be your RA for next year!!!!!

School wise, classes aren't too bad. There's a lot of work this semester, only because I'm taking 8 classes(which is 17 credits). So, I really need to buckle down and do my work more than I did last year(not saying that I didn't do my work last semester. Also, it's SOO cold outside and walking to class is horrible. There are days where I don't want to get out of bed because my bed is so warm and it's so cold outside; got to do what I go to do.

Hope you guys have a great week and I'll keep you guys posted on my RA position.
TTYL!

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!

So, as you can see by the headline it's my birthday! I'm finally 19, my last year as being a teen. Today has been so amazing. Every time some sees me and if they know it's my birthday that have to SCREAM across the commons or the cafe HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I like it, because I like attention; just like anyone else on their birthday, attention is all on you. My friends are throwing me a party tonight which should be fun and I'll have pictures of that next week for you guys.

Well, it's been a full week since classes has started. Let me just tell you I have a total of eight classes, so this semester for me is going to be rough. Hopefully now I know what to expect and I know how to study I should be fine for this semester. IT SNOWED LAST NIGHT!!!!! I was so excited about that. So far the winter up here at Scranton stinked and to see snow makes me very excited! On Thursday night into Friday we are "supposed" to get 1 to 3 feet of snow. Let's pray either classes are compressed or canceled. I only have one class on Friday, but I also have my RA interview, which I'm very nervous about, and also my friends and I are going out for dinner on Friday. So conditions better not be too too bad.

Well, it's my birthday so I'm going to celebrate!

Cya guys later!

Freshman Year ~ Part Two

Hey everyone! I personally want to welcome you all back to my blog for the Spring Semester. I very excited for this semester, and for this year for the matter of fact. Let me just give you a brief summary of my break.

The day after classes ended I didn't even get to sit down, relax, and catch up on sleep that I really really needed; I had to work. Let me tell you that I had the lovely privilege of working my grocery store's fish stand that they had set up outside. How much fun that was, but the only good thing was that I made $300 just for standing outside. So, I'm not complaining. When I wasn't working I was up here at the U visiting my friends that were here for intersession or I was at home being so bored out of my mind. Oh, I to top off the end of my break. The week before I came back up here I got into a car accident. I'm COMPLETELY fine, but my car was totaled. So I spent the rest of my break in bed with a heating pad, not fun. So that was break.

Good thing I got to come up early on Friday for my OA (Orientation Assistant) Retreat. It was so much fun! I had a blast getting to know all the OA's and just having an all around good time. The even though we didn't get a lot of training under our belt, all the new OA's got to help out with Transfer Orientation. Even though it was a long day and a lot of work, I did have the time of my life. Best experience I have had so far here at the U.

FIRST DAY OF CLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again, just like last semester I had an 8am class. So waking up at 7:30am was a rough thing to do; considering that I could not for the life of me fall asleep last night. So I had Chemistry at 8 with Dr. Baumman, cool professor, seems really interesting. 10am I had Calculus; again Dr. Beilder seems like a really interesting professor. I really think I'm going to like that class. My Biology Lab for today was canceled, AWESOME! Then my last class for the day was Biology lecture with the greatest professor that I have, Dr. Hardisky. Hardisky is so laid back, so chill, and really cares about his students. So, overall the first day of classes went well and I think that this year is going to be good.

Well, even though it's the first day of class, I do indeed have homework for tomorrow.

So, I will see you guys and dolls later!

P.S. - This section my blog is going to be for shout outs!!!!
Shout out to Cassi, Becky, Liz G, Florrie, Dawn, Tiff, Mallory, and all of the Hannan Hotties on the second floor!!!!!!!!!

FINALS!!!

It's the dreaded week that all college students hate to hear, FINALS!!! That's right it's finals week here at the University of Scranton. People are frantic with their studies and trying to fit in sleep sometime or no sleep at all. Me personally, in the past 3 days I've gotten about 10 hours of sleep total. I have 5 finals to take this week; chemistry lab, public speaking, chemistry lecture, pre-calculus, and biology lecture. Today was my first final and it was my chemistry lab. Literally it took me a whole 30 minutes to take the test, it was really easy. I'm hitting myself because I was telling myself that it was going to be easy but yet I still studied for hours on end last night. Staying up until 3am, not going to bed until around 5am, and then getting up at 7:30am for the final at 8am. Lets just say after my final I ate breakfast because I was starving and came back to my room and passed out on my bed. Tonight I pulling an all-nighter!!! Tomorrow I have my public speaking final and chemistry final, so I'm pretty much not sleeping tonight. All the studying is going to pay off in the end; that's what I keep telling myself. The best part about this week is that the entire campus is on 24 hour quite hours. Which means there is to be no excessive loud noises inside and outside the dorms. Me and my friends went outside to get some air and we were being loud only because we were all studying for like the past 7 hours we needed a break. So we were just laughing and talking and one of the RAs in Hannan Hall came out and yelled at us. Just goes to show that 24 hour quite hours is taken seriously here at the University.

Before I forget, last tuesday during dead week, USPA put on Finals Frenzy!!! It was from 9pm-12am in the Byron. There was food, trampolines, moon bounce, oxygen bar, and massage chairs. A couple of my friends went and had the time of our lives. It took our minds off of studying for finals. My favorite part of the frenzy was the oxygen bar. It had to the coolest and most relaxing thing i ever did. We all had a great time.

Once finals are over it's lovely winter break!!! 5 weeks of doing absolutely nothing and catching up on lost sleep. I really can't wait for break because I get to see all of my friends that I haven't seen since September. It will also be nice to spend time with my family and sleep in my own bed and shower in my own shower (Trust me it sounds weird, but once you start living the college life you'll understand). After such a stressful semester, this break is really well deserved.

Okay, I would make this a longer blog, but I have so much studying to do.

Catch ya` on the flipside!

College...

Hi everyone, I'm Robert. I'm currently a freshman here at The University of Scranton. I'm a Biochemistry/Pre-Medical major with a minor in Communications/Public Relations. Most of you don't even know what that means yet but simply I'm going to be a doctor that is going to be talking a lot. I come from a small town outside of Scranton where I live with my parents Bob and Mary Ann, my younger brother Andrew, and my amazing dog Misty. Okay, enough of that, lets get to why I'm here. I'm here to write Blogs about my experiences here at the “U so you have a little extra in helping you choose Scranton as the university for you.
A lot has happened during this first semester; meeting new friends, professors, going to see comedians, bands, etc. So, make sure you're comfortable, because this is going to be fun. You name it; it goes down there at the “U. Just to highlight some things that went down. MOVE IN DAY!!! Literally it was the most exciting, never racking, and scary day of my life (when you experience Fall Welcome first hand, you'll understand what I mean). The amount of people, cars, clothes, food, and electronics was astronomical. It really was a zoo here during Fall Welcome. It was a happy day for me because I got to meet up with my friends that I meet during orientation and got to meet new friends.
Then came the big shock, FIRST DAY OF CLASSES!!! Waking up at 8am for first day of classes after such a long weekend was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Every professor here has to hand out a syllabus that lays out what will be covered in class on which days, when tests will be, and when dreaded finals will be. So, you always know when assignments are due in-a-head of time. I'll be the first one to tell you this, if you haven't heard it already; College is all about you. If you don't do the work, you are not going to succeed. Not to scare you but I've already been through this. When midterm grades came out, let's just say it was a wake up call for me. Now I spend all of my free time allocated to studying and doing homework. Yes, I do have fun. Don't get me wrong, studying is the number one priority that you should have your mind on, but you do need to have a social life here at college or you will go insane.
There is always something going on here at the “U. The University of Scranton Programming Board is always having comedians, bands, movies, and have other events planned so students have something to do to unwind. So far I've seen two comedians, a band, and a few movies.
For any of you that are seeking to go into the sciences here at the “U as your major, be prepared. There is a lot of work involved. Just recently I had my first General Biology Practical. Everyone was telling me, upperclassman mainly, how hard your first Gen. Bio Practical is. It's a nightmare they would say. So, I started studying two weeks in advanced. I locked myself in the library and my room for hours studying for this practical. The day of the practical I was so nervous, stressed out, and tired (honestly I was up until 3 am EVERY NIGHT STUDYING), I was ready to just get it over with. 4pm rolls around, I go to take my Practical. I get into the room and it begins. I realize that all of my studying had paid off and I knew all of the answers. During the practical everyone was signaling to everyone else that it was snowing outside. That kind of made everyone relaxed during the practical. Once the practical was over I was so relieved and went back to my room and slept for hours. Just want to let you know that I got an 80% on that test. You might say that isn't too good, in college that's about average; considering the mean for the test was 66.6%. You do the math.
Well that's everything that has pretty much happened up until this date. Now for the rest of my semester. This past weekend, the university held it's annual tree lighting ceremony. There was a liturgy before the lighting and we all headed to the tree and blessed the tree and then it was light. Everyone clapped and started singing Christmas songs. It was a blast. Last week was horrible. It was the week after thanksgiving break and I had 5 tests and 2 speeches to give, included in that test was my second and last practical (which I might add I got a 90% on and the mean was a 75%, go me!) Now it's the week before finals and it's crazy all over again. I have to take 5 finals so all I have been doing is been studying for those finals. Might I add that I'm really sick so it makes my life so much better.
Well, I hope I gave you a quick insight into my life here at the “U. Hope you continue to read my blogs and all of the other blogers blogs as well. Hope to see you at the “U!

Catch ya` on the flipside!
-Robert
