Going Greek

Every year in January, there is a week that is set aside for the Greeks on Campus. This week is called - you guessed it, Greek Week. This week is when everybody who is interested in Greek Life comes out and shows their interest in the Sororities and Frats on Campus. The entire Greeks on campus have these interest parties. At these parties you find out a little history and you get free food. After that is when they start to look at people to see what their personalities are like. If they think you are a good selection, they will send you a bid in the mail saying that they would like you to be a part of the Frat or Sorority.

I didn’t go Greek this semester because I wasn’t ready. On campus we have 3 Frats that do not really have to go by the bidding process I explained. These Frats are part of a predominately black Greek organization called the Divine Nine. These 3 are: Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi and Phi Beta Sigma. I have family in all of these organizations, and I felt pressured into going to one of them. I decided to wait until next spring to go Greek because I need to see for myself why I need to be in a Frat. If you do decide to go Greek, do it for you not anyone else.
