Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving break started early for us. Grayce was able to come home early on November 15th. Surprisingly, she felt a strange sense of displacement. All of her high school friends, who attended local schools, continued with their lives without her. Additionally, our house has changed in many ways, and Grayce felt that she no longer has a space of her own. Early in the week, she was eager to get back to her life on campus. However, as the week progressed she really settled into her routine, at home, with her me and her brothers and blended right back into her life as she knew it at home. By this time, it was almost time for her to go back to campus and she wished she could stay longer. We spent the last day of the holiday taking advantage of the sales during "Black Friday." Grayce flew back to campus the same night.

2007 School Year

Grayce made friends immediately, through the planned freshmen activities. Movie night and the Disney trip were great ice breakers, and a perfect start to the school year. She instantly connected with her professors, and she loves the classes that she is taking (especially her Psychology and French classes). She is doing very well in her classes, thanks to her advanced studies in high school. Unfortunately, her English class has proven to be a little challenging. However, her teacher has worked closely with her to ensure her academic success. Additionally, the student/teacher ratio is exceptional, and allows for lots of one on one attention. Her extra curricular activities include intramural sports (softball) and she was recently nominated for membership to Sigma Alpha Pi. I am so happy that Grayce is thriving academically and socially. We feel fortunate that there are so many students who share our family's core morals and values. All things considered, we are certain that Saint Leo's was a perfect choice for Grayce and for me.

Orientation 2007

Orientation was AWESOME!!! One of my dearest friends flew to Florida to help us unpack. However, we were delighted that so many student organizations assisted us with the unloading process (especially carrying everything up TWO flights of stairs). Although we were very prepared, we still had to make two extra trips to Wal-mart, for additional supplies. Grayce settled in very quickly, and was anxious to go to all the activities planned by SLU. Grayce and I said our good-byes (with a little heartfelt emotion) and I went back to the hotel to get some much needed rest. The next morning, I made the seven hour drive back to Georgia.

Summer 2007

During the summer of this year, I was preparing to send my first child off to college. Surprisingly, we did not experience the dreaded separation anxiety. Grayce was well prepared for the transition (since her junior year of high school) and was very excited about going to school out of state. We made numerous trips to the campus, and we absolutely love everything that Saint Leo University has to offer.
