Introduction and Semester Wrap Up.
Hey guys my name is Dan. I have been going to SNHU for two and a half years now. I have been in many different situations and gone down several different avenues. I started off college as a culinary major and then switched to undecided or “Exploratory Studies after my first year. I took many different classes and finally decided on what I wanted to do, which is graphic design. I have also taken on a minor in communications.
Another thing you should know about me is that I am the super-involved student on campus. I am far from normal in my pursuits and do not expect anyone to even come close to doing what I do as it would probably crush a normal person. Every semester I take six classes and this last semester I took seven. I am the General Manager of Radio SNHU, News Editor of the Observer Newspaper, and Photo Editor for the Enterprise Yearbook. I am also in the Outreach Association and C.A.P.E., which is the Campus Activities and Programming Events club on campus. In addition to all of those duties I work three different jobs. I work at the copy center that is located in the student center as well as working for Residence Life as a Resident Assistant. My last job is one of my favorites; I work for the radio station ROCK 101 running events for them as part of the promotions department. I was able to attain that job from my work at the station as an intern. Lastly I am part of the Leadership Training Institute on campus and this year we are hosting the Relay For Life. I am the entertainment chair for Relay and I am really enjoying it.
So now that you know a little about me and where I am coming from I want to share my thoughts on this semester. This semester has been the busiest semester of my college career. I have been stretched every which way from Sunday and yet I feel that it has been one of my best semesters here. I have gotten so much accomplished and I feel that I would not have been able to do that unless I was this busy.
As a student I was taking seven classes, which is an overload of courses. I have earned 21 credits in the course of one semester. Seeing as I am a junior the classes are much harder than I am used to and I have found that I am doing a lot more critical thinking than I used to. SNHU has challenged me to think outside the box and understand some very complex concepts of life and the world. I have come to understand the artistic view of Michelangelo and at the same time get a more in-depth knowledge of the life of a slave during the Civil War era. I am taking classes ranging from history to graphic design. My course load has kept me on my toes and always thinking of the future and how I need to live my life.
I will say that sometimes having seven classes is quite the burden. It is tough to fit in class work and find time to be involved in the clubs I am in. I have been extremely dedicated to Radio SNHU this semester and I have really enjoyed it. I have been able to push an agenda that has change for the better rather than change for the sake of change and I have been able to (I think) make Radio SNHU better than it was before. I feel that there is a lot of work that still needs to be done for the station but with my dedicated staff of seven executive board members I feel that we can get anything done.
So as this semester wraps up I feel that refection is necessary. I have been involved in everything I wanted to be involved in. I have done well in all of my classes. As of next semester I will be a first semester senior. I have accomplished a lot and I have advanced in many areas of my life. What I need to do now is take some time and relax. I need to refuel for next semester and get things all planned out, as the second semester always goes faster than the first one.
