Let Me Sleep
WARNING: THE FOLLOWING WAS DONE BY A TRAINED COLLEGE STUDENT. PLEASE DON’T ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME.
So here I am, pulling an all-nighter. Right now, it is about 15 minutes before the stretch run of this long journey ahead of me. I refer to the 3 and 4 o’clock hours as the stretch run because it seems to me to be the hardest part of staying up. To me, if you can’t manage to stay up until 3 o’clock, you aren’t dedicated to pull this off. Most college students are regularly up until 1 or 2 am on most nights. Once you get to 5 o’clock, the battle is almost over. The plan is at 5 or 5:15, take a long and cold shower to wake up. After the invigorating shower, I will need to find something to do between the time I get out of the shower and 7:00 which is breakfast.
I have only failed this feat twice out of five times this school year. One time I deviated from the plan and the other time I put my head on one of my pillows for one second and next thing I knew it was 11 o’clock in the morning. I am making sure tonight I am not surrounded by pillows to sink me into a deep sleep that I probably wouldn’t wake up until mid afternoon.
The worst part of my adventure tonight (this morning, however you would like to refer to it) has begun. It is now 3:01. As the plan states, make it to 5 o’clock and I should be good.
You may be wondering why I am doing this all-nighter in the first place. To be honest, it is not for the reader’s enjoyment but it is out of necessity. I NEED to finish two papers due later on today. Procrastinating is the worst thing you can do in college but it happens. You are aware that you are procrastinating yet you can’t finish your work. You try and try to do it but there are way too many distractions. Maybe its human nature or maybe it’s just me. Whatever the reason, I have procrastinated once again and I am now stuck waiting for the sunrise to occur.
This is beginning to be really tough. I am starting to have some doubts. It is 3:44 and I am blinking a lot heavier now. I just need to hold on a little bit longer. 5 o’clock here I come. I am almost halfway through this step. Just a little more will power will get it job done.
Ok, so I’ve successfully made it through the stretch run. I have neglected one paper but we have the option to take a quiz instead so I am probably going to opt to do that. The quiz is two questions long so I can either get a 100, 50, or a 0 which cannot be made up, unlike the papers. I have written all the papers so far which has been a paper a week so I feel like I deserve a break. The other paper which is more detrimental to my grade is completed.
So now the sun is attempting to come out. The sky is not pitch black any more; it’s just some shade of blue. Well it’s just about 6 o’clock and for the time being, I feel this has been very productive. I have finished a very important paper that I’ve been trying to do for a week and a half now. I have a feeling I will be going to bed quite early later today. I get out of class at 5 so who knows where my day will go from there. With my luck, I’ll get this huge burst of energy and won’t go to bed until midnight.
