School's Out
…even if it’s was just for a day, there were no classes on Friday; and you thought snow days were abolished in college. This is our second snow day of this semester which doubles the amount of snow days that I was fortunate to have last year at Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island. Well to properly introduce myself, I’m Nick like the profile states. My major is communications with sports management as a minor.
As much as I was never involved in high school, the same thing does not apply for my first year at Southern New Hampshire University.
From day three I was involved. Well actually I did do some things on day one and two but I can’t remember what they were. So day three came and for one thing, I wasn’t in a great mood because there was a mandatory meeting for everyone looking to get a job on campus. That meeting was at 10 in the morning and I don’t function well until at least 11:30 on any day. As it was, I had a work study and needed to get a job on campus which made me penciled in at the meeting.
So there I was, sitting in the small gym on the blue folding chairs listening to speakers. Because it was 10 in the morning, I only really heard money and job. Luckily, I saw that the time of the job fair was listed on one of the papers that were passed out at the meeting. Two hours later in the Field House there were hundreds of students scurrying to find a job, fill out the paper work, and hopefully be hired.
ATHLETICS-the sign that intrigued me the most. I applied and had an interview later that night. The interview went well, I got the job and ever since then, I’ve been with the Athletic Department doing various jobs for them.
Along with working for the Athletic Department, I am a staff writer for The Observer which is our school newspaper that is distributed monthly. I am also a member of the following groups: SNHU Radio, History Club, TV Club, and C.A.P.E. (which stands for Coordinators of Activities and Events). And I recently became the President of the Video Gaming Club.
Yes, it’s a lot of work and pretty chaotic at times but I still have free time. I enjoy everything I do at SNHU. Because of the make up of this school, it’s a great way to get involved and by getting involved, you can really meet some great people.
