Losing a Whole Year

As incoming freshman head into college, the idea that they will be spending the next four years of their life at school. That was my intention until I realized that I was basically a semester ahead of everyone because of my transfer credits from Rhode Island College. And ever since then, I've been planning on graduating in three years...well next year that is. I took six classes this semester and I will be staying on campus to take at least two more classes this summer and possibly an internship. And then I'll be on track to graduate in May of 2009. It has been a lot of work but I know eventually it is going to pay off.

Now on to this weekend...Third Eye Blind played at our school. It was our one major event of the year. I have loved 3EB ever since middle school and their songs just never get old. So as you can tell I was pretty excited.

I am on The Observer staff and I offered to write an article on the event...I ended up not doing it but I did with a fellow Observer member interviewed Brad the drummer of 3EB and it was just amazing. He was just a down to Earth and really cool guy. And after the concert I helped for just a short time cleaning up and I met Stephan Jenkins.

But back to this summer. I am planning on 1) Hopefully working for the Fisher Cats as assistantship to game day production and other fun things, 2) Hopefully doing an internship in New London, and 3) Working for the Last Chapter Pub on campus. And not to mention taking a couple classes. It is going to be a busy summer but I really hope it will work out and be fun. The best part about it all is a lot of my good friends are going to also be staying on campus so it should make it interesting.

I Feel Home

Spring break has begun and officially ended tonight when I returned to school; time for some recapping.

I had a paper due at midnight on the Sunday of Spring Break which coincidentally was “Easter.” I put “Easter” in parenthesis because it wasn’t really my Easter because my Easter isn’t until the 27th of April because I am Greek Orthodox and we go by a different calendar than most people. (That’s my extent of the knowledge).

The Monday of Spring Break was my most relaxing day ever. I woke up wicked late and did absolutely nothing. The only bad thing about having a late Spring Break was that most of my friends’ Spring Break already occurred so I was home in Newport without much of anything to do.

But luckily the Boston Red Sox started their 2008 campaign by playing two games over in Japan…at 6:00 in the morning. So Tuesday and Wednesday morning I jumped out of bed at 5:45 AM and watched as the Sox went 1-1 on the road trip.

Surprisingly I worked on some homework the following days while combining to do nothing. I’ve been taking six classes and it’s been a non stop grind this semester. It has been so not fun, the school part that is (is school ever fun?); but everything else has been great. I just have so much fun with my friends just hanging out and doing random things.

Spring Break went by so fast but I had fun seeing my family and hanging out with a few friends who actually were home in the latter part of the week. It was just so much fun but all I wanted to do was get back to school. Not really for the school work part but just to have fun with friends that I’ve seen virtually everyday now for the past 7/8 months (not including winter break). I’ve really made a lot of really great friends and I am ready for another month of fun before having to head back to the island for the summer.

That’s the depressing part about only having one more month left to go. Of course I see my friends throughout the summer but it is just different because they aren’t always there. You’re with the same people which sometimes seems like it’s forever (when you’re at school) and when summer hits, it’s totally different; but oh well, just got to look at it as only a month left of classes.

Dirty Water

There is sixteen more days until March 25th. Do you know what the significance of that day is? RED SOX OPENER. Granted it will be at 6:30 in the morning during spring break and played in Japan. Nonetheless, it is an amazing day. Baseball has been dormant since late October and it’s just hasn’t been the same.

So on to my day. For starters, I thought I woke up at 10:30 and it turned out to be 11:30. I’m so not into this changing of the clocks. To be honest, I wouldn’t even have known to do it if I wasn’t informed by my boss at work or at home where my dad changed the clocks in the house. I would have eventually noticed it thanks to Verizon Wireless. Time goes by fast enough that we don’t need to skip any hours, honestly.

Last Thursday in the Last Chapter Pub at school, there was the Dave Matthews Tribute Band that put on a show. It was a pretty good show and the only down side was that it was a wet event so I had to be tagged with two very large X’s on both hands so I can be identified as not allowed to get anything alcoholic. I hate getting marked with the X’s just because I can never get them out. Like I’ll try anything and still days later, it still haunts me. I once even argued with a Pub worker about it but it amounted to nothing because I was once again X’ed.

The Thursday before this one, there was also another big event in the Pub (and yes I got the lettering). It was a comedian Ronnie Jordan (probably spelt it wrong). He is from the south and was talking about plane rides from Savannah to Atlanta and I felt his pain because I did that about a week ago before he performed. He was funny as he went on to talk about things from delicious juice pouches to honey dews to his skit making fun of American Idol winner Ruben Studdard.

But the best news of all came at Relay for Life that our school ran to benefit the cancer society. On a side note, we raised over 25,000 dollars for cancer research. Anyways, the major concert that will be gracing SNHU with its presence will be Third Eye Blind including State Radio opening for them. It is just going to be a great concert. The only bad thing about this is that it’s a Sunday and it’s Red Sox-Yankees. I will have to ignore my love for the Red Sox for one day to go to this great event.

I've Been Working

What else is there to do on a Sunday than to work 10 hours for the SNHU Athletic Department? Well many things, like sleeping or my favorite procrastinating on homework. But for some reason I have been at the Athletic Complex from 2 PM and will do so until 12 AM. Well it's my own fault anyways. But I really like working for Athletics so it's not that big of deal.

Here's the story...
We get our schedule weekly. When this past one came last week, I was only on for a few shifts because I've been "getting back into the swing of things" due to my injury. I was only put on for two shifts this week because of that. Being out for around three months, I've been broke. So I needed money and I told my boss that I could pick up two shifts on Sunday (today), 2-5 and 5-8. And just after letting him know this, I realized that one of the two shifts I was put on was also for Sunday. So yes, I was on the schedule for 8-12 thus having a 10 hour day in the Equipment Room. It's really not bad at all. I have been getting most of my homework done which is a positive.

Start Tomorrow

I moved back to school a few weeks ago (exactly 15 days ago) and it’s been quite busy as usual. It’s hard though. To go for a whole month of doing absolutely nothing (granted this was in main part because of my injury) to doing so so so so much in a very short turnaround.

What has really killed me is this waking up early stuff. I have four days out of the week with a 9:30 AM and it’s so not working for me. And on my only sleep in day, a 11 o clock class, I have to work at 9 in the morning for the Athletic Department.

Even though it is really early, I’m excited to get back. I haven’t worked anywhere (Monarchs or Athletics) since before my accident which was November 14th. The worst though was the fact that I wasn’t having surgery on my ankle until six days later while I was just hobbling around in a splint.

But back to this semester. Taking six classes is interesting to say the least. The amount of classes I attend doesn’t really phase me but the work is starting to get to me. Especially the fact that I am actually trying to read almost everything that is assigned. I’m actually trying to be a good student. Previous semesters, I would question why I even bought the book in the first place because I never would read it let alone even look at it. The work/reading aspect is definitely a big change for me.

Even though it’s so much to do, I feel that reading the assigned material actually makes me learn more. Who would’ve thought? I actually understand some things going into class and can discuss it which kind of makes me feel smart, but just a little.

This past Saturday, the Madden 08 (Video Game) Tournament was held in the Last Chapter Pub. I was in charge of running it with the Sport Management Club and the Video Gaming Club. It went well believe it or not. The best part was when some of the players thanked me for putting this on. It honestly was so gratifying to me. Another thing I enjoyed about it was people would be walking in the Student Center and out of now where, the game would catch their eye and they’d feel compelled to stop in and watch a few minutes of it.

Speaking of football, the Super Bowl occurred on Sunday. As it turned out, I had to write a paper on it for my Sport Marketing class. It was an odd paper because it really was just talking about how the Super Bowl had changed since the beginning of it. It was interesting because I started it early on Sunday but because of other things (mainly distractions from room mates and other homework that needed to be done), I didn’t have much done. For the game, I went to my friends off campus place with one of my room mates to watch the Giants and Patriots play. It was a fun time but I so didn’t enjoy writing a paper on the Super Bowl. By the way, I don’t want to talk specifically about the game.

Another aspect of my life that has been challenging is my “recovery.? I use that word loosely however because most people take like two minutes to recover from falling down a hill but me, yea that takes me months to do. But I’ve been doing physical therapy at Apple Therapy for about a week now. It’s off of Bridge St. which is off of Elm St. (where ample things are located in Manchester).

By the way, you know your schedule is too full when you have to do three meetings all at once and you can only make one of them. Yup, that’s how it’s been so far. Way too many things to do that I wish I could just put off but I guess I can’t.

What I've Done

Break is nearing an end and to be quite honest, I did basically nothing. I am still coming off my injury and I just didn't have much to do. I spent most of the time with my family which was nice.

Being back home is a lot easier than being at school where I have so many responsibilities. But when I'm home, none of that matters and it's so much easier. But after a while, you get bored of being bored, which was exactly what happened to me. It's the perfect time to go back.

My cast is off and the doc is telling me that my foot is healing well. I'm starting to walk more with an air cast which helps. It's probably going to be a huge pain going back into the snow filled city of Manchester once again but I'm up for the challenge.

Six classes so doesn't seem like fun but it's just something I guess I want to do and in the long run it will probably pay off. One good thing is returning to see all of my friends.

Ghostown

It’s been a while but everything is now back and going. And speaking of going, this past semester has been literally the most hectic of them all.

From doing many things in clubs to all my classes, nothing put as much stress on me as having to do everything on crutches due to me falling down a hill.

About a month ago, I was walking to the Student Center to get my flu shot (yes I still get them even in college) when I slipped walking and fell down a hill. The result of this fall was a broken leg and a torn tendon. I was out of school for two weeks because I had to go back home and have surgery on my leg/ankle.

So once I came back, of course I had massive amounts of work to catch back up on. To be honest, I was so lost in a few classes.

Once I finally came back to school, there was already snow on the ground and it was a winter wonderland. I never broke anything before let alone use crutches and the snow added to the difficulty of everything.

I also had to keep going back home to Newport to see my doctor about once a week and it has just been way too much.

As the weeks passed and the finals and papers mounted, so did the amount of snowfall that hit Manchester. Good for snowboarding and skiing. Not good for kids trying to get around on crutches.

I really don’t know how I would’ve been able to manage this past month without the help of my friends and also the help from Public Safety. Public Safety have been a huge help, especially in getting to all my classes.

For the third straight semester (I’ve only been here for three semesters so, for all my semesters…) I’ve had a final on the last day of finals-Friday. And on top of that, I’ve had a final every day this week including an 8AM which just doesn’t fit with my personal schedule very well. But anyways, I’ve managed to get through this whole week but its Friday night and I am still at SNHU. There is almost no one else here and I am here because of the weather. The snow has been so bad that my parents couldn’t come and get me tonight.

But I will be officially on my break starting tomorrow and it will be so nice to just relax and not have to do anything especially with my leg the way it is.

Next semester is going to be crazy because I am taking six classes in an attempt to graduate next year and then do my internship (every Sport Management major has to do an internship) and hopefully get a job with that team. This all is contingent on me taking six classes for the next three semesters. This will be a big challenge but I really think it will work for the best.

Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More

The past week has been quite hectic. Everything seems to be do all at once. I feel like I have to be productive with every second I am awake. There have been so many meetings/banquets to attend and then add on the work.

Since Sunday it has been crazy. I volunteered to help out at the Granite Bowl, which is a flag football tournament put on by SNHU students, and I had to be there at 6 AM which means I had to wake up at 5:30. I also had to work the night before for the Manchester Wolves and didn’t get back until 11 PM. And because of the night before being a Saturday, I didn’t get much sleep because of distractions outside.

So I must say, I did enjoy volunteering but after that, I was so dead. Honestly, I almost passed out while sitting up in the press box at one point. All of my energy has been drained over the past few days.

And after that long Sunday, I had four classes Monday which just added to everything. After the classes, I had our final CAPE meeting. I feel like I did something else after that but it’s been too busy I can’t even remember.

On Tuesday, I basically worked on my group project with my group. And then I had an awards event thing that I had to go to.

That Tuesday night, I basically lived in the computer lab. The objective: a report and presentation that I finally finished this morning. I was on a roll last night writing my paper on the iPhone until I was booted out of the computer lab at 12 AM. That was their closing time.

After not being able to finish all the work that needed to be done, I had to wake up early the next morning to return to the computer lab and finish the power point. Waking up at 7:30 was not fun. Right after finishing the power point, I had to head to class and give the presentation (had another class after that too).

From 2:00-3:00, I went to an Organizational Meeting for all clubs on campus. After that, I worked on the same group project until about 6:30. I also attended the Manchester Monarchs game after all of the madness of the past few days had subsided.

It was really great to just get out for a night and watch some AHL playoff hockey. The game was good and considering I may be working for them next year, I felt I should support the team. They won 4-1 against the Providence Bruins and I’m tempted to go to Providence for Game 3 of the series. It’s during finals week but I don’t have any finals during Game 3 and Game 4 so I may go back to RI and watch a game.

And that’s another thing that is creeping up on me. Finals. I am not ready to face that fact that I need to take them. It’s still about four days away from me. So not looking forward to that.

11 AM

Day ten has begun of this horrible tragedy. Yes, the broken screen on my computer. The good thing that has come out of this, I have been doing assignments early because the computer lab in Robert Frost closes at 12am.

Luckily I didn’t have to do anything last night because I have no classes on Tuesdays. It was also odd how I really had nothing to do today because I didn’t have to work. It was just nice to sleep in late. I’ve been doing so much lately that I haven’t had time to really just relax. I finally got that day today.

Gym Class Heroes played a concert at SNHU on Sunday. It was the Major Concert of the year. I didn’t end up going because my loyalty to the Sox trumps everything (4 straight home runs…impressive). I heard the concert was good though. Every year SNHU gets one major concert which is done by CAPE.

Because of the size of CAPE, they do so many things. In a little while, I am going to be helping out with wax hands which is an event being held by the Special Events CAPE Committee. I honestly don’t know much about it; just that you have an imprint of your hand as a wax sculpture. I don’t understand the whole deal with hands being covered in wax and all. Maybe it’s just me.

And the Special Events Committee will also be having dippin dots tomorrow in the Pub. It’s that crazy circular kind of ice cream that’s becoming more and more popular every year. My first experience with these wonderful things was when I was in Florida a few years back. I’m glad they are making their way up to New England finally.

On Thursday, there is going to be yet another concert, this one being held by Radio SNHU. It is One Night Stand and there will be two different bands being played. As being the future secretary of Radio SNHU, I will be attending this event…wait, the Sox are playing Thursday night I think. Well, I’ll have to think about that.

I can’t believe all the massive amounts of work that needs to be done between now and the end of the year. I have no fear that it’ll all get done but it just isn’t fun being bombarded by school work all at once. Maybe I should have done some of that today rather than just relaxing.

I learned something new today… Jerry Springer is still on tv. I was shocked today when I was flipping through the channels and I heard the chant. JERRY, JERRY, JERRY. I thought that show was done a long time ago.

Besides Jerry, the weather here has taken a huge turn. Instead of being 40 degrees out, the past three days or so, it’s been 80 degrees. The only thing that is bad about this is that if this continues, I need to do laundry about every other day because I only have two pairs of shorts at school. I haven’t been home since break and since it was so cold at break, I neglected the fact that I will need shorts at one point. It is nice though to walk to class and don’t have to worry about snow.

Changes

So to start things off, I switched my major the other day because I realized I don’t want to be a communication major anymore. I am now with the Sports Management people mainly because it is all I know how to do. From as long as I can remember I’ve been working in sports. From volunteering doing the scoreboard to what I currently do now during the summer which is run the Restaurant Softball League and this summer, I will be taking on the Men’s softball league also (This was probably a run on sentence but I’m not a Com major anymore so just go with it).

And I know I haven’t done a new post since I came back to school two weeks ago but I’ve been really busy. The MLB tournament is up and running and will be going into the end of the month which the Video Gaming Club is holding.

This Thursday we will also be holding a Game Night in the Pub from 7pm-10pm. And I’ve been doing so much work lately with school and my job for Athletics.
I was going to write a post up last night but well my computer screen broke. Yes that’s right, I dropped it one too many times and it revolted. Three huge black marks on it which hinders my ability to use my computer. I still don’t know what I am going to do about it.

This Saturday I have a busy day because I will be at the Tournament that the VGC will be holding. It’s a NHL Tournament from 11am-7pm but I will have to leave to go to the Manchester Wolves game, Arena Football League 2, which I will be interning with. Luckily, I have some great members in the VGC who can help me out and run the tournament.

Right now I am in the computer lab in Robert Frost which is an excellent place especially if you have an unactive computer like I do. It is like a back up system if your computer is malfunctioning and is open a long time. And if this was ever closed, I could always head over to the Library which seems to always be open except Friday and Saturday night…for obvious reasons.

Today, I went paint balling. That probably isn’t a word but for this purpose I am making it. Yes it was about 30 degrees out and snowing but well I paid 10 dollars to go do this and it was so worth it. The only bad thing was that it began at 10am.

I never had been paint balling before and well it was quite an interesting time. For just 10 dollars, you received a helmet, a paintball gun, and 500 paintballs. The course was packed with snow and ice and was very cold but it was so fun being out there all day doing something I don’t get to do often. C.A.P.E. ran this event and I must say, this is something I definitely would do again.

Well it is day three back at SNHU and day two of classes. Thankfully, I had no classes today. This is why I love Tuesday’s. Having no classes all day enabled me to do so much. The only downside is that I woke up at 9am today and well I wasn’t too happy about that but I moved on and got many things accomplished.

It’s nice to have another break (granted it’s only a 40 hour break) after a long break. While on that subject, I went to Ohio for spring break. You may be puzzled about why I went to Ohio, but the answer is simple. I went to Ohio to visit my aunt and uncle and let me tell you, it was different. From the walk in the caverns (which I may add was cool because I saw some bats flying around which reminded me of the time when there was a bat in may house (which I wrote my college essay on)…I really think I should start using foot notes instead of parenthesis because I’m not even sure if I used them properly. But if I did choose to use footnotes, I’d have to learn how to use foot notes and well my computer skills are questionable), to having a fried pickle, to having to drive a half hour to the nearest restaurant.

And on top of those things, there was a lot and a lot of down time. I actually read a book in those five days that I was there against my uncles’ advice. Every time he saw me with a book in my hands, he would give me this long speech about why books are bad and how it’s only one mans’ opinion. He did however suggested to me to read a book by some German or Russian guy I’ve never heard of.

So after getting back from Ohio on Wednesday, I did absolutely nothing. It’s kind of sad actually. I had tons of work to do because I guess my teachers wanted me to have a long and painful spring break by loading up the homework on me. Well I proved them wrong…until I stayed up until 2:30 Sunday night working on things. And the best part about it is that it wasn’t even due on Monday. They decided to change the due date until Thursday which they neglected to tell me…or I neglected to pay attention to them.

Being back at school for even these past three days have been pretty fun. I racked up eight hours at work on Sunday. The only bad part about my job is the minimum wage that I get paid because it’s a work study. Baseball has started back up again which has been so enjoyable except for the three hours on Monday between 4:10 and 7:00 (for those of you who don’t know what I’m talking bout, I’m talking bout the Sox game).

Another great thing that occurred was Red Octane’s release of Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360 which if I do say is one of the most addicting games ever. My friends and I play it so much (well not lately because the PS2 is broke, but now that it’s for 360, it will be played a lot once again). I never really liked the game back when my friends started playing it but once you get a couple of songs under your belts, your hands become one with the guitar and you feel compelled to rock out.

The one thing I am aggravated about in school is that I have a test on Thursday. We learned all this information weeks ago, maybe even months ago. Then we take a long week off and she expects us to remember all this stuff? I really don’t think it’s fair that she expects us to know and remember all of this knowledge. And it’s not like I can blow this off because this test is worth 20-25 percent and I’m not a good tester so I’m really not excited about this test. Will I study? I would like to attempt to study but I guarantee you that I will be too distracted by baseball, GH II, or just by my friends.

Distractions are the worst. You get so in the mindset of doing work and then your mind wonders and then you’re soon seeing what other people are doing and bam, nothing gets done. It’s just something you will need to learn to deal with. Especially in college because your friends probably don’t have work to be do the next day and they want you to hangout with them. I struggle everyday with this very problem.

Speechless

Well to start things off, this week at first look was good but very hectic. It was very hectic as I was at work and school for most of the time. As Friday began to unfold, I was in a great mood because of an internship that I will most likely get for this summer. But as fast as this day began, I was crushed just as fast; mainly because of my own stupidity.

As snow began to fall, I made an unwise decision of not changing from my gym shorts to a presentable pair of khakis. The snow was a sign for me to change my appearance even though it had nothing to do with it. The reason I needed to wear khakis was for my interview with my bosses.

The interview was for the summer employment job in the Athletic Department and well all my hopes of getting the job was just flushed away in ten minutes. And the feeling I have right now is not good. Disappointment lingers within me for not preparing better for this important interview. For something I want so badly I gave my bosses every reason not to hire me. The only person I can be mad at if I don’t get this job is myself.

I don’t know what I was thinking walking into the interview in gym shorts and a sweatshirt. I don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote two bad essays that I sent in with my application. I don’t know what I was thinking when I was given two minutes to redeem myself and convince them why I should be hired and I failed miserably at it.

If I was applying for a different job, I don’t even think that I would have been called back. They probably would think that I’m not really interested in the job. The thing is…well I love my job here at the Athletic Department and regardless of what happens in this situation, I will be back next fall duplicating all my effort that I’ve put forth this year.

I guess I just assumed that all my effort and past hard work would cut it but I was totally wrong. Through this experience though, I’ve realized if you really want something (like me in this case) you can never stop going above and beyond to reach your goals. Somewhere in this process, I suppose I stopped for a little bit and now I feel I won’t be able to get what I want.

Also, there is no reason for someone like me to want this job. I’m from Newport, RI and well it’s pretty nice down there especially during the summer. People talk highly of that place. I would be missing out on so much if I got the job. I would continue to not see my family and friends. I would also be adding forty hours of work a week. Why would any sane person in my situation want something like this? I honestly have no answers; all I do know is that this job is something I've wanted ever since I first learned about it from someone who worked this job in the past. It’s just my luck that the first time I really want to do something like this, there are eight people applying for five spots; in past years, they would have hardly anyone apply.

Well besides the dark clouds looming over the summer employment with the Athletic Department, I have been successfully running another tournament. In the spirit of March Madness, the Video Gaming Club and Athletics are co-sponsoring a College Hoops 2k7 Tournament played on the Xbox 360. This has taken a lot of my time to run. From creating a banner, to sign ups, to creating a schedule, a lot of hours have gone into this. We have a total of 26 teams which matches the highest total of the year when Madden 2007 was held in October.

Overall, I’ve been really busy. It’s really hard becoming president of a club that last season was basically inactive. I’ve had to take a lot of initiative and responsibility to get this task done. The good thing about becoming the president of the Video Gaming Club, I love video games and I enjoy running tournaments and so fourth.

Only about a week left until spring break. I’ll just have to wait and see what happens with everything. I was told I should have a decision about things by then.

Let Me Sleep

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING WAS DONE BY A TRAINED COLLEGE STUDENT. PLEASE DON’T ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME.

So here I am, pulling an all-nighter. Right now, it is about 15 minutes before the stretch run of this long journey ahead of me. I refer to the 3 and 4 o’clock hours as the stretch run because it seems to me to be the hardest part of staying up. To me, if you can’t manage to stay up until 3 o’clock, you aren’t dedicated to pull this off. Most college students are regularly up until 1 or 2 am on most nights. Once you get to 5 o’clock, the battle is almost over. The plan is at 5 or 5:15, take a long and cold shower to wake up. After the invigorating shower, I will need to find something to do between the time I get out of the shower and 7:00 which is breakfast.

I have only failed this feat twice out of five times this school year. One time I deviated from the plan and the other time I put my head on one of my pillows for one second and next thing I knew it was 11 o’clock in the morning. I am making sure tonight I am not surrounded by pillows to sink me into a deep sleep that I probably wouldn’t wake up until mid afternoon.

The worst part of my adventure tonight (this morning, however you would like to refer to it) has begun. It is now 3:01. As the plan states, make it to 5 o’clock and I should be good.

You may be wondering why I am doing this all-nighter in the first place. To be honest, it is not for the reader’s enjoyment but it is out of necessity. I NEED to finish two papers due later on today. Procrastinating is the worst thing you can do in college but it happens. You are aware that you are procrastinating yet you can’t finish your work. You try and try to do it but there are way too many distractions. Maybe its human nature or maybe it’s just me. Whatever the reason, I have procrastinated once again and I am now stuck waiting for the sunrise to occur.

This is beginning to be really tough. I am starting to have some doubts. It is 3:44 and I am blinking a lot heavier now. I just need to hold on a little bit longer. 5 o’clock here I come. I am almost halfway through this step. Just a little more will power will get it job done.

Ok, so I’ve successfully made it through the stretch run. I have neglected one paper but we have the option to take a quiz instead so I am probably going to opt to do that. The quiz is two questions long so I can either get a 100, 50, or a 0 which cannot be made up, unlike the papers. I have written all the papers so far which has been a paper a week so I feel like I deserve a break. The other paper which is more detrimental to my grade is completed.

So now the sun is attempting to come out. The sky is not pitch black any more; it’s just some shade of blue. Well it’s just about 6 o’clock and for the time being, I feel this has been very productive. I have finished a very important paper that I’ve been trying to do for a week and a half now. I have a feeling I will be going to bed quite early later today. I get out of class at 5 so who knows where my day will go from there. With my luck, I’ll get this huge burst of energy and won’t go to bed until midnight.

School's Out

…even if it’s was just for a day, there were no classes on Friday; and you thought snow days were abolished in college. This is our second snow day of this semester which doubles the amount of snow days that I was fortunate to have last year at Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island. Well to properly introduce myself, I’m Nick like the profile states. My major is communications with sports management as a minor.

As much as I was never involved in high school, the same thing does not apply for my first year at Southern New Hampshire University.

From day three I was involved. Well actually I did do some things on day one and two but I can’t remember what they were. So day three came and for one thing, I wasn’t in a great mood because there was a mandatory meeting for everyone looking to get a job on campus. That meeting was at 10 in the morning and I don’t function well until at least 11:30 on any day. As it was, I had a work study and needed to get a job on campus which made me penciled in at the meeting.

So there I was, sitting in the small gym on the blue folding chairs listening to speakers. Because it was 10 in the morning, I only really heard money and job. Luckily, I saw that the time of the job fair was listed on one of the papers that were passed out at the meeting. Two hours later in the Field House there were hundreds of students scurrying to find a job, fill out the paper work, and hopefully be hired.

ATHLETICS-the sign that intrigued me the most. I applied and had an interview later that night. The interview went well, I got the job and ever since then, I’ve been with the Athletic Department doing various jobs for them.

Along with working for the Athletic Department, I am a staff writer for The Observer which is our school newspaper that is distributed monthly. I am also a member of the following groups: SNHU Radio, History Club, TV Club, and C.A.P.E. (which stands for Coordinators of Activities and Events). And I recently became the President of the Video Gaming Club.

Yes, it’s a lot of work and pretty chaotic at times but I still have free time. I enjoy everything I do at SNHU. Because of the make up of this school, it’s a great way to get involved and by getting involved, you can really meet some great people.
