Here We Go Exploring

In the past two weeks, I visited a cave home (well, actually, climbed the mountain trail to it but got too scared to talk to the people living inside), got my hair cut, and fell in love with this frozen yogurt place. And more, but you know. Some highlights.

The Alhambra is on this one big hill in Granada. There’re more hills around it, and one of those is what Bethany, Alyssa, and I climbed one day. We saw a beautiful sunset over Sacromonte and tons of very cool moss. The path we climbed seemed to be a secret trail, with the changing leaves as its curtain, hiding it from the rest of Granada.

I got my hair cut too! I tried to explain what I wanted, and then in about five minutes, six inches of hair were gonneeee. Then, another woman came over and the two of them started drying my hair. Two brushes, two hairdryers. It was funny. I sort of felt as if they were making fun of me, the little American girl. I think they liked me though. They really want to visit Philadelphia. The second woman proceeded to curl my hair. I looked like a doll, ringlets all over my head. It was an experience. Now the ringlets are gone. I like the haircut, though, which is nice, because I normally never like haircuts.

Although there’s snow on the Sierra Nevadas and the ice cream shops have closed, the frozen yogurt place is still open! And, as we learned when we asked the attractive boy behind the counter, it never does. I had never tried frozen yogurt before, or Nutella, but I got them, as well as some granola-y things in a sort of frozen yogurt sundae. Delicious.

This past weekend I went to Cordoba and Sevilla, and this coming weekend I'm going to Las Alpujarras, a town in the mountains. I'll be your mini travel agent in my next entry :)

From the Other Side of the Ocean...

Hearing about the Phillies winning the World Series, and then missing out on probably the biggest party that Philly's had in a long while was a pretty sizeable bummer! Me and my other Philadelphians here were all commiserating in school, shouting across the courtyard.

AND THEN that whole election thing went down. I think every American in Granada went to the same crowded bar to watch the election-- at least until 4 a.m., when the bar had to close. My roommate and I came home after that and sat in the living room, waiting to hear the results (and skipped our first classes the next day to sleep). It was pretty cool to experience this hugely historical election here, but I am sure there was a lot more hoopla and celebrating at home then here.

Instead, I've had to start studying for midterms, which is insane, because the semester is going to fly by-- our teachers are talking to us about finals as well. So, naturally, we procrastinated and walked up to the Albaicín to drink tea at a tetería, a tea house in the same style of the ones we visited in Morocco.

Bethany and I walking through the park before we head to the Albaicín. I look sad probably because I was FREEZING.

I was so cold because there is SNOW on the Sierra Nevadas. It's funny because from the same point in the park, we could see the snow as well as palm trees and orange trees.

Bethany and I were content to be drinking tea.
