Commencement and SUMMER!

Wow, it's finally summer for (nearly) everybody at Saint Peter's College.

I really can't believe freshman year is over! About this time of the year I was terrified of the very idea of leaving for college. Little did I know that this year I wouldn't even want to go back home. Yes, I'm back at home in Central Jersey. It's a change from Jersey City. I moved out officially on Tuesday right after my last final. Saying goodbye didn't feel bitter at all, it just seemed like I was going to see all of my friends next week. I'm really going to miss Millennium Hall and all the good times I've had there. I can't wait for Fall Semester!

So right after my final, I left for an interview at L'Oreal in Westfield, NJ. I gave the company my resume through the Co-Op office here at SPC and they called me a while back to schedule my interview. I got hired on the spot, and I'm really excited to work for them this summer and in the fall.

Last Friday I came back to Jersey City to sing with the McMullen Chorale at A. Harry Moore school, a school for special children just down the road from Saint Peter's College. We sang on each floor and seeing the laughter and the joy in all the children's faces definitely brightened my day.

After we sang, our director held a barbecue in the backyard of his apartment. He baked an amazing chocolate cake, mmmmm. It was interesting having a cookout in the chilly 50 degree weather, good thing it didn't rain! It was nice seeing everyone one more time before we all leave for summer.

Today was the 116th Commencement of Saint Peter's College held at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ. I was honored to sing for it with the McMullen Chorale. I was able to witness the whole ceremony, which wasn't too long. It's so sad seeing all of the seniors leave, but they're finally off to start their own journey in the world. Also, our past president, Fr. James Loughran, SJ was awarded an Honorary degree in Humane Letters poshumously. This school will always remember him.

Watching graduation, I can't help but imagine my own, which is only three years away (that's a scary thought). Just hearing Pomp and Circumstance from the speakers gives me the chills and also the thrill of graduating and starting a new part of life. Congratulations and the best of luck to the Class of 2007!

So here's to the beginning of summer! I'm looking forward to my internship at L'Oreal as well as the Fall Semester.
