Broadway Musicals, Little Italy, and More
Well, I've been busy since the last time I've updated.
It was another week of classes and meetings. I have two tests this week in Philosophy and Romance Synthesis (Italian, French, and Spanish). So there are papers to write, projects to research-but I still have room for some fun.
Every Monday I meet with the Asian American Student Union in Dinneen 227. We're planning a Food Festival relatively soon and we are also attending a Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue Conference in Virginia Tech in two weeks.
Last Friday, after a busy day of learning Italian, Spanish, and French and then work at L'Oreal right after-a bunch of me and my friends decided to go to the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy. It lasts for about two weeks in September where part of Little Italy is closed off to traffic and numerous stands selling everything Italian-from souvenier T-Shirts to yummy Italian Gelato are set up. We sat down at one of the numerous romantic restaurants found there and got to eat a great Italian dinner. After that we stopped at Ferrara's-this great bakery known for its delicious cannoli. It really was a fun time.

Last week I saw two Broadway musicals-RENT and Mamma Mia! They were both amazing shows and I got to get some more autographs and pictures to share. Rent has been one of those shows I've been dying to see again since I first saw it. Two actors from the original cast were in it-Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp. They also starred in the movie version of Rent. It's a year in a life of eight friends struggling in NYC with AIDS, poverty, and life's hardships.

Last Sunday, September 16 was Broadway on Broadway-a collection of performances from all the musicals on Broadway this season. My friend Chris and I woke up super early to get a good place by the stage. We stood for about 5 hours, but it was definitely worth it. The performances were amazing and it only made me want to see more musicals. It was funny because while we were waiting to see the show, Chris and I met and talked with two women who came up to NYC from Central Jersey for the weekend. We got to talk about all of our favorite Broadway memories and listened to the whole show together.

And I got another chance that night....when I got Mamma Mia tickets unexpectedly. So Chris and I took another trek to the city and watched another show. Mamma Mia is about a daughter who is about to get married and has no idea who her father is. It was like a trip back to the 70s listening to the greatest hits of ABBA songs.

Last Wednesday was the Michaelmas Convocation-a big award ceremony for all of the undergraduate achievements. It was held in the Yanitelli Recreation Center. All of the professors dressed up in their graduation robes. We, the McMullen Chorale, provided music for it. Congratulations to everyone who was awarded and mentioned. This ceremony just reinforces the awards benefited from studying and working hard in all classes.
So now I'm off to study hard for my tests this week-wish me luck!
