Summer in Minnesota- gotta love it!
I am currently nearing the end of the second week of my internship at Deloitte Tax LLP in Minneapolis and so far my summer is going very well. I drove my younger brother's car over to Roseville, MN just a few days before the start of the internship and moved all my things in with my roommates. I am living with a good friend from high school and her two roomies who all go to college in "the cities" which means Minneapolis/St.Paul. Our apartment is huge and it is really the perfect living situation. I like my roommates, I can ride the bus a short ways to work, and we have a huge kitchen, living room, bedrooms, and balcony. . . . .we even have our own washer/dryer!
My internship is going well, I just wish I had taken my tax class before I got here. I still have my audit, tax, and cost accounting courses to take during my senior year. The internship is definitely direct experience, as I'm working in the PCA (Private Client Advisors) department. I am working on a few things, but they do a lot of taxes for individuals. Luckily, the accountants are all very helpful in answering any questions and they review all my work so I can really take advantage of the learning experience. Most of the interns are from schools around the area so it's so much fun to meet them as well. My co-workers are always so willing to take me to lunch, discuss future career goals, or do pretty much anything. Like someone said to me the other day, "No matter which 'big four' firm you work for you'll be doing pretty much the same thing. The defining characteristic is the people. That's why we try to interact with the interns and do so so many activities with them. The work isn't any different from one place to another but if you like the people, you'll like the work." That sounds alot like my college experience and why I have been so happy at Saint Peter's. Most places can offer you an education, it's about the people. Anyway, there I am going off again on a tangent.
After work, there are so many lakes and beautiful outdoor activities to enjoy! Of course in the summer everything is more fun, and I have gotten a chance to jog in the park that's nearby my apartment and down by the river nearby downtown once. I jogged last Sunday with two of my older sister's old co-workers/friends from when she worked in Minneapolis and that was tons of fun.
Well, I'm sure I have lots more to tell you, but I can't think of it right now and I'm losing precious daylight hours before I must go to bed and then get up tomorrow and do it all over again. My bedtime these days is 9 pm at the latest and I come home soooo exhausted. I know, it sounds lame but it's so different than college where I go to bed at 2 am and wake up at 9 am. Hhmmmmm I'd better get used it w/ only one more year left of school!
