Setting Sail, and Slushy Snow!
Hey! Sorry its been so long since I wrote. The show has finally set sail. Work at the new theater has picked up greatly. Firstly, let me say how much I love all my co-workers. Everyone is so incredibly nice. After our first preview last Tuesday, the producers threw a reception to celebrate the show and even us ushers were invited. it is nice to be included. The producers gave a speech at the reception about how happy they were that we were there and welcomed us into their theater family. I really wanted to cry because I really feel like fit in there. I've made countless new friends, many of whom have serious theater connections so that looks promising. So far, we haven't had too many celebrities come to the show, but last Sunday the theater hosted Irish America Magazine's Top 100 ceremony and Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) was honored along with Kathy Griffin, John McColgan and Moya Doherty (our producers) On Saturday night, Jerry Mitchell came to see the show. For those who don't know who he is, he is a Tony award winning choreographer, most known for the recent revival of La Cage aux Folles. My mother keeps asking when she is going to get invited to the show, so I am currently working on getting her good tickets. I do want her to see how I work, but for her to commute all the way to New York City from our house is kind of a lot. Opening night is quickly approaching and much work has been put into the show. Did I mention how much I loved it. The time is now for Broadway to have another sweeping epic musical. This past weekend, 2 of my friends came to see the show, and the response I got was that it was probably the best show they'd ever seen. That excited me. It makes me feel like I will have a stable job for a long time. On Friday, the snow came. It was cute and all, but when you have to commute, by foot, it gets to be a hassle. All the way down 7th Ave for the past 5 days, I've had to leap over puddles at every corner. It has actually become quite a game. I can't wait for it all to dry up though. It'll shave several minutes off my commute. Speaking of my commute. Because of the great amount of time I spend on the train to and from work, I've rediscovered reading novels (after I do all my reading for class, of course). My new best friend at work loves to read, so on our break between shows on Wednesday and Saturday, we've been going to Barnes and Noble to relax and read. It is amazing how much relaxation comes from curling up with a good book. That's all for today. I promise to write again soon, with pictures! Enjoy this weeks quote, and no it isn't from The Pirate Queen! "...there's a bright brand new day in store, I'll eat some breakfast, then change the world..."
