Opening Night Approaches!

Hey! Life has suddenly gotten beautiful. The weather has been gorgeous lately, and to make it better, I got my midterm grades. My mother is going to be so proud when I show them to her. Balancing work and school while keeping my good grades, she'll say how grown up I am. Speaking of growing up, reality is quickly setting in. I am going to be a senior next year, where did my college time go? I've had some of the most memorable times of my life these past 3 years but I wish it could continue longer. Coming to SPC was the best decision I could have made.

This past week, I had a few early shifts (at my job as an usher for the Broadway Show "The Pirate Queen"). For those unfamiliar with the usher profession, we don't always have to stay the whole show. For my theater, only half the staff stays the whole time, and the other half leaves shortly after the show begins. We alternate shows, so if I am the late shift on Thursday, then I am usually the early shift on Friday. It is nice to be home at a decent hour some nights. On Wednesday, I was the early shift for the matinee, so I took the time to stroll around and see sights. At like 4:30, I happened by the Al Hirshfeld Theater, home of Kander and Ebb's "Curtains" starring none other than David Hyde Pierce of "Frasier" fame. I have good timing because he was just coming out, so naturally I got a picture.

At the theater, there is a buzz. This Thursday, April 6, is our Opening Night. Everyone is extremely excited. I am especially excited because it means celebrities will be coming! The down side is, I’ll be inside, so I won't get to take pictures. Now if we could just get to opening night. Everyone is getting sick. There is a stomach virus going through the whole theater. Because everyone has such close contact, it is getting passed easily. I, thank God, have been safe so far. Lots of Purell has helped. My new best buddy at the theater, Dennis, however was not spared. Luckily, he is now feeling better and back at work. On Friday, because of the early time of work on Saturday, I invited some usher friends over for a "slumber party." Laughable I know, but I missed my childhood! Here's a shot of Dennis and I, ignore my goofy face, it was late and Melvin didn't give much advanced notice before snapping away.

Did you know there was an M&M store in NYC? I do now! During my city adventure between shows on Wednesday, I discovered it.

Truly a diabetics nightmare, but a joy for any sugar fiend, it has every kind of M&M you could think of, in every color too. It was neat, and killed lots of time for me. I foresee myself visiting there again. Being free during afternoons, between class and work, I have been exploring the city more than usual. I knew there was a lot to see, but I never knew there was that much.

That's what has been going on this week. I will give a full run down of the opening in my next post. Maybe I’ll ask a friend to play photographer for me. This week's quote comes from a show I did in high school, which I really wish they would bring back to Broadway. Any guesses? "... Everybody be glad because the sun is shining just for us, everybody wake up into the morning, into happiness. Hello world, it’s a different way of living now, thank you world, we always knew that we'd be free somehow ..."
