Openings & Ups and Downs
Hey! Let me bring you up to speed. Opening Night was a blast. The day before, we were informed that we were being given complimentary tickets. I called Veronica, Matt, and Liz right away. They had been asking me about the show, and what better way to tell them about it. They were even invited to the post show reception. Not too many celebrities attended, but I had the pleasure of personally walking Ms. Fran Drescher to her seat. She was almost late to the show, and voiced her worry of missing the overture in that signature voice of hers. It was the highlight of my night. I must say that she gorgeous in person, and was such a sweet, appreciative woman. Here is a shot of her on the red carpet.

After the show, the producers hosted a reception in the lobby to celebrate. I had a great time there chatting it up with the cast and my fellow ushers. It was nice to be included in the festivities. Another perk of working for the theater is we get opening night gifts. Our house manager, in the spirit of the show gave us each a bag of Pirate's Booty. Just a nice healthy snack to thank us for our hard work. The production gave everyone a flag marking the opening. Its hanging on the wall in my apartment. I tried to put a picture, but it wouldn't resize correctly
At the curtain call, I nearly had a heart attack. We don't allow any photography in the theater, but the press was there that night and I wasn't informed that they were allowed to photograph the bows. So, as the exit music began, down the aisle came about 40 photographers snapping away. I was not ready for that, but I quickly recovered. I was glad they were there though, because here is a shot of the cast bow.

Outside that, life has been flowing along nicely. Finals are quickly approaching, which means the final projects and papers are mounting. Living arrangements for the summer are being worked out now. I am trying to find a place in New York because the commute from my house (in Toms River) to New York City every day for work would be rather long. My mother isn't real happy with me looking to move out of the house, since I'm the youngest. I just hope she understands that I am growing up, and maybe it is time for me to leave. I'll be 21 in a few weeks. Wow, I never thought it would happen. I'll be 100% a legal adult, am I ready? I think so, growing up is a way of life. It may be difficult at first, but there are friends out there going through the same thing. You'll get through it together, that's how I made it to where I am. You get by with a little help from your friends.
In case you haven't noticed, I have been avoiding using quotes from "The Pirate Queen." That is because I hear the same lyrics 8 times a week, so I don't really want to think about them when I'm not at the theater. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, I just like to get away from it now and then. Now, on to this week's quote: "I feel empowered today. Time to take my place in society . . . and now I know that I'm fully grown and I can stand on my own, nothings gonna get in my way..."
