Just back from Omaha
Hello all! Another week has passed and another super-busy one is coming up. This weekend I flew out to one of our sister Jesuit schools, Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska to visit my best friend who goes there. It was SOO great to see her and to see where she goes to school and meet all her friends. Since she flew out to visit me last year, it was only fair that I go visit her this time! The trip was short, but really great.
Now I'm looking ahead to the "busy-ness" of this week. I agreed to help do lights for Argus Eyes' production of “The Crucible this weekend and next weekend, so I have to go to play practice every night this week!
It's so crazy to think that the semester is more than half over! In some ways, I'm glad because the sooner the semester ends, the sooner I get to be in California with my family and friends from home, but on the other side, I'm trying not to rush through anything, but rather enjoy every day. Enjoying every day is made even easier when I like my classes, which I really do. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays I have Anatomy and Physiology, which is seriously SO interesting, Chemistry, and African Lit which I LOVE. We've already read “The Dark Child, “Things Fall Apart, and acted out “Dilemma of a Ghost. Today we started reading “God's Bits of Wood. The whole class is so interesting, and my professor, Dr. O'Brien, spent time in Africa working for the Peace Corps (which is what I want to do), so she really knows what she's teaching about and is so fun to talk to!!
On Tuesdays and Fridays, I have my Theology classes for my minor. First is Christian Medical Ethics with Dr. Flynn who literally wrote the book on the subject and has been interviewed on television, as well as written articles for national newspapers, and spoken all over the country. I love learning from someone who knows so much about what they're talking about and is so well known on the subject. Finally, I have Survey of the Old Testament with Dr. Graham who's probably one of my favorite professors ever. She is an expert in her field and our class is small enough that she knows us all and the classroom becomes an open forum for ideas, moderated by someone who knows exactly what she's talking about. I'm taking another class with her next semester and I can hardly wait!! I guess the biggest testament to the fact of how great my classes are is the fact that I haven't missed one yet, despite the allotted 6 absences for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday classes, and 4 for Tuesday & Friday classes. It sounds cheesy, but its fun to really like school =)
