Wanna get sharp on the roof later?
So I've decided to write my favorite quote of the week for my titles from now on. Don't worry. I'll explain too. It's not a funny inside joke for me to enjoy while I laugh at people's pitiful attempts to understand it.
My choir director Smac just recently had surgery and has been out. He recently came back and has been on some painkillers, so at the first few rehearsals he was a liiiiittle loopy. At one Chamber Singers rehearsal, he was more out of sorts than usual, and made a comment about a section being sharp, only he jumbled what he was saying. Subsequent comments included: "You feeling a little sharp there Smac?" "I'm a feeling a little sharp." "Hey Smac, wanna get sharp on the roof later?" There's my funny moment for the week.
I have had quite the busy week. I had my audition for Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Wednesday, where I did two monologues, Edmund from King Lear and Frank from Mrs. Warren's Profession. I was fortunate enough to be called back that Saturday to read for Danceny and Azolan. The cast list was posted on Sunday and I got cast as Azolan! If you don't know the story, he is the valet of the main character, Valmont (if anyone has seen Cruel Intentions, which many people don't realize is a modern adaptation of Liaisons, I am the Joshua Jackson character) I am very excited about this show and the cast itself is going to be a ton of fun (another blogger, Madi, got cast as Cecile!). If you are interested in seeing a Trinity show, Les Liaisons Dangereuses runs February 29-March 8. You can go to the Trinity drama website for details.
If anyone doesn't know, the Broadway Revue is a big event here at Trinity. It is a student produced, directed, etc. show with an original script written around Broadway numbers and put on in the big theater, the Stieren. This year I wrote the script for the show and on Saturday, the cast got to read through the full show, which took two months to complete (and is a whopping 46 pages long, to my dismay, as this means more editing for me). It was well received by the cast, thank God, and hopefully our audiences will love it just as much. The show will be January 18-20, which is a Trinity in Focus weekend, so please try to come to this too!
This past week for choir kids is what has been commonly referred to as Hell Week. It is the week before finals begin where we have rehearsals every night leading up to the Christmas Concert at the end of the week, which is fun but requires a lot of work, obviously. The concert went well, however, and as always got a huge crowd. We sang some great pieces and got to work with the full orchestra, which is always fun.
However what I really looked forward to was the Vespers Service on Sunday night. This is a separate Christmas concert that is different from the former because the service is more spiritual and there is no orchestra. In addition, the Christmas Concert takes place in Laurie Auditorium, our biggest venue on campus, while Vespers is in the Chapel. It is a beautiful service and many alums say it is one of the most memorable events from their career at Trinity. I actually had a solo, We Three Kings, which I felt good about. After the service the professors' houses along Oakmont hold open houses for students, parents, faculty, and all. Chamber Singers carols every year along Oakmont, which is always fun, and I got the extra pleasure of caroling with the Trinitones, which I have started to learn has become a prominent and popular group on campus!
Trinitones actually has a couple of gigs coming up, including a recording, a retirement home gig, and a few other performances. Trinity Choir and Chamber Singers is done for the year though. I'm really excited because next semester we are doing Mozart's Requiem! We are also going on tour in New Mexico, which will be a blast.
Tomorrow I have my last class in Directing and my final in Verse Drama, which consists of a mock audition with two verse monologues (I'm doing Edmund from King Lear and Acaste from The Misanthrope). Wish me broken legs! I also have my Microeconomics final on Thursday and Music Cultures final a week from tomorrow, and then I'm done!
As of now, I'm just winding down for the week of classes to end before Reading Days start on Wednesday. Unfortunately most of my final days will be spent doing things other than actual finals, but at least I have some things to do. Until then, I'm gonna keep chuggin' along.
Later!

Mark - Glad to see theater major is 1 of the 9 blogs. I was cast in several shows there and had lots of fun. Was in Chamber Singers too (and a tenor) so was glad to hear some of those holiday traditions you mention have remained. Hope your B'way Revue goes well and have fun in LesLD. - Rob from NYC ('85)
