Look at all this snow!
Ah, I remember the good old days when snow meant something completely different than it does now. Snow meant snow days, no school ( or at least a delay!), hot chocolate, snow angels and snowball fights with my sisters. Today all that the snow means is that looking out the window now has an absolutely beautiful backdrop, and that when I leave here the bottom of my pants will get wet and my fingers might freeze off. If that sounds at all (or entirely?) pessimistic, I blame it on the stress of these finals and papers and the fact that they have somehow overtaken my life.
So yeah, it really is a busy time. I remember this past Monday thinking that it felt like Friday, and not the good kind of Friday feeling....more like the tired, 'what a long week' Friday feeling. I then realized it was because I really didn't have a weekend. No down time. No R&R. No lazy mornings. I spent almost every waking moment of the weekend in the library-- reading, writing papers, studying...essentially playing a very long and exhausting game of do all the work you were supposed to have done over the last three weeks---NOW. I have two papers and one quiz down- two finals and two more papers to go. After next Friday I am a free woman. Funny thing is I'm actually finding it difficult to imagine how I'll spend all of that free time. Think it might do me some good to get out in Baltimore a bit more...see what's going on. There's still so much that I haven't seen here....and then there's pottery...volunteering...visits to friends in Boston and NY ....
All in all, this feels good, friends--to be nearing the end of my very first semester at grad school. It's almost surreal. Can time actually be moving this quickly? Can the end almost be in sight?
Oh- nearly forgot---things are moving in the right direction with regard to the India program. Got a call yesterday and have an interview on the 17th. Fingers, legs, (and unfortunately eyes!) crossed.
More soon, guys. Take care.

Yes,yes, yes, the plight of the grad student! Three weeks of work, and only one week to do it in....maddening! Not to mention that most of it has nothing to do with your specialty. Talking about adding insult to injury! Take comfort fellow student, the overwhelming amounts of work serves a great purpose. It staves off boredom and constant contemplation about how much you spent on this segment of your education! So, work hard my friend, soon it will be over!!!

Hi!
I'm a junior at Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland contemplating the MSW at Maryland, especially with a concentration in Clinical Health, and a subspecialization in Child, Parent, and Family Health.
I have a few questions about the program there, if you would be kind enough to answer them!
1) What is a typical week like for you at school? How long are you in classes daily?
2) What's your favorite thing about the MSW program at Maryland? What's your least?
3) For your first, more general field placement in your first year there, are your interests in terms of future specialization given any thought? (Basically, would I have to possibly work in a school, even if I eventually want to work in a hospital?)
4) How tough is it to be accepted into the program? Are there any undergrad classes or activitieis that you would recommend before applying?
Thanks so much for your help!
