Escaping the Swine Flu

Hiya Everyone!!!

So, the year is coming to a close and I'm sure I'm not the only one counting down the days until they go home. :) I hope many of you will be going somewhere far from the Swine Flu, but for others (like me) who live close to an area that has been infected (not to mention being right across the border! >.<) I want to pass some info on how to avoid the flu. I'm sure you have all heard it, but it won't hurt to hear it again. I also want to talk about what I have done since my last post and a few things that are coming up before we leave.
Let's get the swine flu out of the way! Here are ways to prevent it:
1. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.
2. Cough or sneeze into a tissue and then throw it away.
3. Wash your hands often- using soap or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and 15-20 seconds of scrubbing.
4. Clean things that are touched often, including telephones, keyboards, door handles, and sink handles.
5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
6. Stay home when you have flu symptoms, and see your physician as needed (within the first 24-48 hours if classic flu symptoms develop as treatment is available). OMT has been shown in some studies to reduce problems and even the risk of death in flu and pneumonia- so be sure to consult your DO!
7. Stay healthy: get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, avoid smoking, consider pneumonia vaccine if at risk, and eat nutritious food to prevent disease.
8. Get a flu shot annually! (though this likely will not prevent swine flu)
And if you have anymore questions or want updates go to:

Moving on to happier things! So, the beginning of this week was pretty busy. I had many papers due, which I finished ^^, and another concert! This time I saw Hey Monday, Metro Station, All Time Low, Cobra Starship and Fall Out Boy! It was an amazing concert! With all the bands they didn't play as many songs as I wanted them to sing, but it was still amazing! I went with my roommate Erika and out two friends Ellen and Chris. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of us, but I have plenty of the bands I will post. Then last night was another Kiosk Concert with The Interracials and Wet Screams. Both are bands that came from the Assissi 3rd (YAY!!!) It was a really good time. The turnout wasn't as big as the first concert, but fun all in all. I encourage everyone to attend next year’s concerts! ^^

There isn't a lot going other than finals, but there are a few things. The last ballroom class was tonight at 3pm, so I hope that all those that went had a good time! ^^ Also if you didn't participate in Swoop Day yesterday, don't worry! There will be another on Sunday! Go through your stuff and unload some of the things you don't need or want so you don't have to worry about taking them home. It's for a great cause! ^^

Well, that is all for now! I hope everyone is studying, but not too hard. Remember to relax too! It's almost over so take the time to enjoy the last few days! I have only a couple more posts so look out for them (actually maybe only one more >.<). You know the drill about comments and topics!

Merry Meet and Farewell for now!!!

Concerts!!!

Hiya Everyone!!!

12 days and counting!!! That's how long until I go home! Whew! I can't believe my first year of college is coming to a close. It definitely flew fast! Much faster than I thought it would. But that is another story. Today I want to focus on the awesome concerts that have occurred in the last two days. First I want to talk about my concert on Friday, then today's Spring concert!

Last night I attended The All American Rejects (AAR), Shiny Toy Guns (STG) and The Overflow (I think that is the name of the last band, they didn't introduce themselves >.<). It was AMAZING!!!! The venue, Hampton Beach Ballroom, is really small and a great place for concerts. I had been there previously for a concert last year. We arrived early and had to stand in line, which kinda sucked, but it allowed us to be able to get really good spots (as you will see later in the pics ^^). It was standing room only, which I like best. We stood for an hour before the concert started. Meanwhile, I played on the internet with my phone to pass the time. We also talked to a girl we had seen at our last concert. It was awesome to know someone else. We all had a great time. ^^ At 7:30 the lights when out and everything started. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed by the first band, but they weren't terrible. During their performance the lead singer sang "Happy Birthday" to Tyson, the lead singer of AAR. He came out and gave him a hug, which was pretty cool. :) They sang about 5 songs and were off. Next was STG. I had known some of their songs and decided to learn the rest of their songs about two weeks before the concert. They were awesome live! The new female singer (yes, their third) did a great job! She was so energetic and enthusiastic on stage. She really made this part of the concert for me. I was sad when they had to leave, but quickly moved on when AAR came out. They were also very energetic. When I would try to take a video it was difficult because they make the crowd move so much. The floor was moving up and down!!! There was a short bit for Tyson's birthday. He was turning 25 and they brought him champagne (I think), a birthday cake and a tiara to wear. They start with new songs and throughout alternated between new and old songs (They even went as far as to sing Paper Heart and Swing, Swing!!) After the show they came out and gave all kinds of free things out. I had already left the area, so I wasn't able to get anything (T.T) but it was fun watching them give things to others. It was an awesome concert and I would love to see them live again!

After a long night I woke up dehydrated with a head ache and went to another concert! In may family we would say a phase in this situation: That is the way it is done! Meaning: You party long and hard, but get up in the morning to get stuff done. ^^ After breakfast I did my laundry and went to the Spring Concert. I was there nice and early to be able to receive the free stuff, which included a water bottle, a shirt, a "chia" pet and all kinds of free treats. I was there the entire time, and was able to take many pictures. The bands were all very good! I was especially impressed by Just Surrender and Rehab. They were all very energetic and fun! I wouldn't mind seeing them again. ^^

UNE Weekend

Hiya everyone!!!

So, this weekend has been rather busy and fun! Today's blog it’s going to be rather short, but there will be pictures! ^^

Yesterday's big event was UNE Day. There were hundreds of families where with potential students!! ^^ I helped with admissions and also did a few odd jobs. I was much more excited about doing the work when I got there than I thought I would the night before. I think the only sucky part was waking up at 8am to work at 9am. T^T But I quickly forgot about as I worked. I hope that we made a good impression and that I will have many of them as my residents in Feathermen next year! XD

(I got a little bored at the end of the day >.< It spells UNE)

Today was much more relaxing. I got up to do some homework and have brunch. (Mmm, brunch XD ) Then I went to my friend, Matt, birthday party we had outside next to Avila and Assissi. His dad made some awesome burgers and hot dogs and his mom made this amazingly rich cheesecake! (I'm drooling just thinking about how good it was!) The afternoon was filled with jokes and laughter! Then my friend Becca and I watched the rest of the soft ball game. We rooted for our team (especially when our RA was up to bat) and though they lost it was a good game. She told us later that they had been playing against the best in the league, which made sense when she told us. It was fun to watch a UNE game, though the breeze made it very uncomfortable. >.<

Tonight is the last APB movie, Revolutionary Road. I will be there, mainly for the free food! But there none the less. I hope to see many of you there tonight :) This week I will be sure to give updates about what is coming up in our last full week of school! (I'm so excited!!!!) Start studying, but don't forget to relax! If I didn't bring attention to something, please post a comment and I will get to it in my next blog!

UNE Plays

Hiya again everyone!!!

I hope your week has been eventful (I know mine has). I want to talk about the plays and what is going to be going on this weekend. If you didn't make it to the plays, its ok, but you seriously missed out!!!

***WARNING*** If you find the word or discussion of the vagina offensive you are going to want to skip to the end!!! (Mainly just after the Vagina Monologue part) But I challenge you to read through and even comment at the end.

Let's starting with the Vagina Monologues. I attending the second showing on Thursday, the 16th. I wasn't sure about attending, because I felt it may be awkward (which it was at first). But soon I was surrounded by friends and I felt more at peace. They had a basket for donations, free Luna Bars and chocolate mold vagina's you could buy for $2. This money was collected and donated to the VDay campaign to help women (I think she said in Africa). As I said, the beginning was awkward because I have never heard the word "vagina" so many times in such a short period. (DARN! I should have counted the number of times they said vagina! >.<) Though as time went on I felt included, especially because I could relate to the monologues. I felt like my story was being told in a sense. It felt good to have such a connection with so many people. I honestly believe that I came out a different person! I think differently about myself. ^^
Now, for a bit of discussion. I found that throughout the play there was a theme (duh, its a play). I know there were many other themes, but I want to focus on one in particular. The actors kept bringing up how different and special women and their vaginas are, but how often people put it/us down in so many ways. This is why this play was so awkward at first. Girls and women are taught to ignore their vaginas and forget it is there. As the actors kept saying, many women that were originally interviewed didn't pay attention to their vaginas and many had never really looked at themselves. I'm sure all men know their penises exist! And I know all girls know they exist. It's hard for us not to. But this is not the case for vaginas. In a way we lose a part of ourselves, excluding a part that makes us all unique, which I think is very sad. I want to challenge women to learn more about themselves, even if it is a little bit. Its very important to know who you are and whether you like it or not, your vagina is a part of you. Be proud of it! Listen to it! You may learn something!

Now onto the second play, Plaza Suite. I attended opening night, Friday the 17th. (By the way, there is a second showing tonight at 7:30pm!!! UNE students get in free!!!) In general the play was very good. It was entertaining, funny and interesting. Unfortunately, I didn't like it. I simply wasn't pulled in, as others were. It is in no way a reflection of the play, only of myself. It just wasn't my cup of tea. (Sorry guys) The actors did a good job, especially those in the third act (which was my favorite)! I hope that those that attended last night enjoyed it and that many of you will attend tonight’s showing and have a good time!

That is all for now! Please post what you think about my discussion about the Vagina Monologues and what you thought of each play. As always, if you want me to bring attention to something simply post a comment and I will be sure to do that in the next blog! Thanks again for reading! I will post again soon!!! Oh, by the way, we only have 7 days of classes left!! XD I hope everyone is excited as I am about going home!!! WOO HOO!!!
