End of the year!!! : (

Hey guys,
This my last post, and I have big news. Even though I love UNE and I will hate to leave, I have decided to move on. UNE is a really great school and I love my professors and all my classes. But, I am ready for some change. So, after much deliberation, advising and contemplating my decision I have come to the conclusion that I will be transferring and finishing my last two years at another school.

There are a lot of aspects, well most of the aspects actually, at UNE I will miss. Like the beautiful view.

0503091958.jpg

0503091958a.jpg

And all my friends!

I will definitely miss the teachers and classes, which are so small, which allows for tons of individual attention.

And it really IS a sad/happy thing. I am sad to leave, because UNE has been such a beneficial and amazing two years, but I am ready for what the future will bring and I am ready to be closer to my family.

And this definitely took a lot of thinking, because, and I am not just saying this because I am writing this in an admission’s blog, I do really love UNE. It is a great school, with so many good quirks to it. Plus, everyone is great here.

For me though, staying in one place for too long is hard. I left high school early and I traveled around Europe, just because I needed some change. So, this decision is really unsurprising for me, because of who I am.

Anyways to wrap up my thought process in this decision I will say that I definitely regret nothing in coming here, because these last years have been AWESOME! I have learned so much, had so much fun and the time spent here overall has totally been extremely beneficial to my educational career and my life in general. Which again sounds very advertisement-ey and cheesy, but its true.

So, to leave you guys off here are some pictures of the whole going away-ness and the beautiful summer weather that we are experiencing now, (it is like freaking amazing, I kid you not!) These are from the barn, since I've started riding with Aubrey again since the weather has been nice.

And Sysko (Aubrey's horse) in his new outfit, doesn't she look SO sharp? Haha

Good luck in your college careers,

Reading Day!

Hey guys, its reading day! That means we have one day off to prepare for finals tomorrow. Except my first final isn’t till Friday, so I had a girl’s night with Megan last night.

We rented The Day the Earth Stood Still, which is a weird movie, but pretty good, at the same time.

Then the coolest thing we did was get sushi! It was my first sushi experience and I love it! Except the chopsticks are so difficult to use! And they became easier once I was holding them the right way (yes that’s right I was holding them upside down!), but they still proved to be a challenge.

And wasabi, all I have to say is it is STRONG! Megan was like, “only take a little bit…” and I was like pshh I can handle it… yeah I ended up running to the fridge and drinking a ton of water to wash down the tiny bite I had just ate.

So here are some pictures of that fun:

0428092033a.jpg
The chopsticks were SO hard to use!

0428092051.jpg
Megan was a pro at them though.

0428092048.jpg
This part, just the raw salmon I thought was so much better than the rolls, it was SO good!

0428092049a.jpg
And 4 chopsticks and a fork (yeah, I cheated a little bit), my first sushi experience was a success!!

And now I think we are going to enjoy the beach, since it is beautiful and warm outside!
And I think I will blog once more before I leave for the summer. So, I’ll talk to you later!

Spring is HERE!

Hey guys!
So, summer is almost here, but spring is here!
This weekend started off with my roommate’s birthday, so we of course decorated the halls, went out to dinner and had a little get together.

0423091927.jpg
Amanda and Cait at dinner

And then because the weather was SO warm I went to Megan’s and we took her boxer for a walk up the river and did some fishing. And the first time I tried to swing the fishing rod into the water, after her boyfriend kept telling me to watch out for the tree, it got caught in the tree!!! Haha

0424091522.jpg
Her dog is named Hailey.

0424091557.jpg
In the car she had to sit on my lap, and she is like 50 pounds, and so not only did she get hair all over me, but she was so heavy!!

0424091532a.jpg
Megan fishing.

0424091548_0001.jpg
This is where she fell in, lol because she was chasing the bait.

And then we had a little movie night (I definitely recommend Marley and Me, Bolt and Changeling)

And then on Saturday was the spring concert, I was actually studying all day (I have a final tomorrow), but I heard it from my room and it sounded awesome. And everyone that went loved it! And for those who don’t know every year there is an event sponsored by the environmental club, Earth’s ECO on campus and it has huge bands come to campus. Last year Hanson came to campus and this year Saving Jane and Just Surrender and Rehab came.

And then today I went shopping! It was a roomie day. Where me and my roommate got lunch, bought lots of spring goodies and then came back and watched a movie.

And now we are both doing homework as my second and her first finals are tomorrow (ahhh), wish us luck!
Talk to you guys later,
Marilyn

Finals!

Hey guys,
So there have been some technical difficulties, so that is why I haven't blogged in a while, but now its finals and its crazy and stressful. (My first final is tomorrow, ahh) But, last week there were a couple fun night here at UNE. There was the Vagina Monologues and UNE Players' (the acting group on campus) performance of "The Plaza Suite".

So first, last Wednesday was opening night of the Vagina Monologues. UNE students did this as a fundraiser for the V-Day campaign (www.vday.org)
It was this amazing performance, which was partly put on by our Women’s studies program. It was really awesome to see UNE doing this performance and doing it so well! It was done really awesome! And hilarious!

The next big thing was The Plaza Suit opening last Friday. It was this really funny play about three different groups of guests in one hotel suite. Everyone was really talented it and it was absolutely hilarious! And the UNE Players is planning to do Grease for the fall, which is really exciting! Here are some pictures of Plaza Suit:

And that is about it for now. Sorry it was kind of short, but I will definitely post another blog later this week to make up for the short and few blogs that have been happening lately.

The Variety Show and Miss UNE

Hey guys this will be a short blog today consisting mostly of pictures and video, but the Variety Show was awesome, and so was Miss UNE. Both annual events on campus, and both hilarious!
The Variety Show:

Those pictures by the way I didn't take my friend Andrea did.

My favorite part of this year's variety show was these music videos people made though. They are so funny! Here is a link to one to show you what I mean:

And Miss UNE (where guys dress up as girls for a beauty competition) was also hilarious! People in the crowd basically filmed the whole thing, and here is a link to where you can find that footage. It is so funny!!!

And that's it for today. Sorry its kind of lame today, but I will have plenty of stuff to talk about next week!

International Week

Hey guys! So this week has been so busy! Firstly, I a lot of you were probably at Accepted Student’s Day yesterday, and if I did then I hope you had a lot of fun and that UNE made a good impression you. Secondly, this week was international week. Since, I work for study abroad I helped out a lot with this.

The first event that I am going to share with you guys is this really great presentation on Sudan. I only have one picture, but it was a panel discussion on the war there and although it was a very sad subject it was really interesting and I learned so much! Not to mention I got to practice my French since one of the panelists spoke in French with a translator.
0323091707_0001.jpg

The next event that I could pictures at was the Capoeira Brazilian Martial Arts demonstration. It was really cool and they played all these Brazilian instruments, like you can see below.
0324091917_0001.jpg

0324091928_0001.jpg

The last event of the week was really awesome too. It was the International Fashion Show and it had lots of international dancing performances and a lot of really awesome clothes. Here is a couple pictures from that.

n676710275_6317615_1410740.jpg

One of the best part of international week though is there is a 1,000 travel voucher given away to a lucky person who attends 3 events throughout the week. Unfortunately it was not me (lol), but it was awesome for the girl who did win.

And this week is two other really awesome annual events, Miss UNE (where guys see who is the prettiest female) and The Variety Show. So next’s week blog will talk about those. Talk to you later!

Birthdays and Tattoos

Hey guys! So this is my second blog this week, but whatever! Okay so 2 weeks ago was one of my friend Rosalie’s birthday, and in the dorms, we do it up!
0320091355f.jpg
0320091356.jpg width="640" height="480" />
0320091356a.jpg

Most people do something like this, with big posters and stuff on the walls, so it is really fun and everyone knows whose birthday it is.

And we bought this little guy as her first cake (I call him Ned)
0320091355b.jpg
0320091355c.jpg

And this was her second, real cake. Which is angel food cake with strawberries and coolwhip.
0320091355d.jpg
0320091354a.jpg
0320091355.jpg

And in even more exciting news, my roommate in a spontaneous burst of something decided we wanted to go get tattoos. I already planned on this one, which is a peace dove.
0319091159b.jpg

And this is what my roommate got.
03200912481.jpg

And now this weekend is a huge weekend for UNE. There is semi and Relay for Life. So next week I will talk about how those went.
Talk to you later!

Spring Break Wrapup

Hey guys! Spring break is over, and it is really nice being back, but I had so much fun in Washington with Habitat for Humanity!

Here is the low down. The group was twenty of us, all girls and we flew from Portland to Seattle and then slept in the airport, because we had to wait until the car rental opened.
n59602421_30796419_8342033.jpg

Then we drove to Tacoma, which was where we were staying and working. We were greeted by a bunch of really cute old ladies who had all this soup to feed which was really sweet!
0309091432.jpg
Thats Tacoma.

And the sign the ladies made for us.

Then the next day it snowed!!!! So we got to go to the zoo instead! This was super nice and fun! Then we went to this chocolate specialty shop for Tacoma, Tacoma’s glass bridge and just checked out Tacoma.
0309090852.jpg

On Tuesday we finally got to work! I worked on siding, which was so hard! Then after work we went to Seattle to the first Starbucks and Pike Place Market.

On Wednesday we worked in the “trenches” taking down the frames of foundation. And after work we went to Mount Rainer.

Thursday I did window installation and we met up with the other college group there for dinner and toured the school that “10 Things I Hate About You” was filmed at.

The field where Heath Ledger sang to Julia Stiles!!!

And Friday I painted some siding and after work we all went to downtown Seattle to see the space needle and eat a nice dinner. Then Saturday was our free day, so we went to a Habitat house dedication, the ocean, Olympia and flew home!

That is the short story… it was a really fun week and I encourage everyone to try out Habitat, because it is so much fun and such a great organization!

Spring Break!!! Finally!

Okay so I don’t have a lot of pictures this week, because I gave up Facebook and all of my photos I put up there and not on my computer before lent started…(I am a dummy), so this is going to be more of a word blog.

First the boy’s basketball team made it to the finals! Which was so awesome! I went to a few last games and it was so much fun! All of UNE came out to cheer on the team (the last one, people started lining up at 5 for the 7:00 game!) and the energy was crazy! So, cross your fingers for them! They play again tonight.

So, first there was another snow day! Yeah! Which was awesome. And the whole day I just got to sleep, watch movies and hang out. Very relaxing!

And then on actually last Sunday my friend Rosalie and I went to Portland to walk along the water, which was fun, because it was such a beautiful day! Unfortunately, the path was covered in snow (which we hadn’t anticipated) and so we didn’t make it very long. It was a nice, short walk.

And now midterms are over and spring break starts on Friday, yeah! And I am staying n break housing (I have to move out of my dorm and into another one) until I leave with UNE Habitat, which is how I am spending my spring break. Have I talked about this?

Okay so for spring break I am going to Tacoma, Washington with UNE Habitat to build houses, last year we went to Peoria, AZ. And I am so excited, because it is near (like 3 hours away, but still) FORKS! And I am a huge Twilight nerd, so it will be amazing! So we leave Saturday afternoon and I am so pumped.

Anyways, that’s it for today, this blog is kind of short, but after break I will have a super long one to make up for it!

SNOW DAY! And Mardi Gras!

Hey Guys!!! Guess what? Spring isn’t here, which I wouldn’t be so gleeful about, if we didn’t have a snow day!!!!! Yeah! The best part about going to school in Maine (besides the gorgeous view of the water!) is definitely the snow! And on Monday it was rumored that there would be lots of it, but I woke up at 5:30 and there wasn’t much, so I was like we have school… bummer, but then at 7am UNE called off school! So, I ended up sleeping late, going to lunch with my friends, cleaning:

0223091438.jpg
0223091438a.jpg

Isn’t it just so spotless?

And playing cards, then on Tuesday was Mardi gras, which wasn’t so exciting except the school served really yummy Mardi gras themed food and we got a bunch of free fun stuff. And had a ton of fun at dinner dressing up!

0224091752_0001.jpg

0224091752b_0001.jpg

0224091852.jpg
Cait, Amanda and Tedd with their mardi gras beads!

And now today because we had the snow day all my work is pushed back which is extra exciting! And the boys basketball team is doing great!!! But, more on that later!

Talk to you in a couple days!
