Welcome!! (back for some, maybe)
Hi guys! I hope your summer went well and that you are adjusting to school well again. I am back at UNE and am really excited to be back, which is a little weird since most people don’t like going back to school. But, for me it was awesome.
I’ll start with a little introduction so you guys can start to get to know me. My name’s Marilyn and I’m from Cleveland, Ohio (actually Lakewood, a suburb of Cleveland). I am a sophomore political science major. I like travelling a lot and horseback riding, and doing outside things.
So into what is happening at UNE right now. This year I am in Featherman Hall in a double on an all sophomore floor. Most of my neighbors are transfers, so I am meeting lots of new people which is really awesome. And I am actually in a single in till housing can find me a roommate, so it’s really nice, because there is a lot of space! (I’ll put up pictures once I finish decorating, so you guys can see the finished product.)
As far as classes I love all of mine. But, it’s funny, because only 3 out of 6 of my classes are ones I picked out last spring. The other 3 I have changed a couple of times, but I am really into taking classes I really like, so it’s nice and even UNE’s required courses I am enjoying.
Today was the involvement fair which was really fun. I had three tables I was offered to sit at, but ended up at The Equestrian Team table (I am a new member this year, a walk/trot rider in shows). Here are a few photos of that.
Some members of Edge, a Christian group I am involved with on campus.
2 riders (the one on the left is the captain) of the Equestrian team.
An overall view.
The live band that was playing.
Last night was the welcome back dance, but I didn’t go. And the rest of this week there is lots of welcome back events, which is fun.
So, yeah that is about it. I guess I can tell you guys a little bit about how I spent my summer to finish off this first blog. I worked at this restaurant called The Buckeye Beer Engine, as a hostess. I also was able to visit Oregon to see family. Family which included my cousin and her week old son.
His name is Owen Riley... isn't he so adorable!!
and I got to meet Obama, which I was siked about since I am a poly-sci major. (When I say meet I mean I got to shake his hand and he said hi to me, but luckily I was also on stage and on camera during his whole town hall meeting, as well).
and I got to visit Niagara Falls with friends, which was super fun!!(me on the maid of the mist, by the way this was not my first time there, more like my 15th, but I still love going!)
And best of all Aubrey, my really good friend from UNE can up from New Hampshire to visit me for a week and it was so much fun!
The rest of the summer I spent outside or with my family and friends. This was nice, since I go to school so far away it is good to spend the summer with the people I won’t see very often throughout the year.
Anyways, that’s about it. Hope you have a good week!
-Marilyn
