What to Know About WIT. Dedicated to: Hopefuls
Ok first of all DO NOT listen to any of the rumors, because to be frank they aren't true. Yes you have work but its not what you think, its more time consuming rather than a lot. For example a drawing will take you about 8 hours on average but that’s all you will have to do and if you like to draw it definitely wont seem like "work." Also you will get plenty of sleep, the only thing that might prevent that is 1) the red sox winning again lol 2) your hanging out with your roommates and you lose track of time 3) you wait to the last minute to do your project which I highly suggest you don't do.
The classes are easy too for example I am taking a lecture, drawing, math and English class. The lecture is an hour and 20 minutes and all you have to do is stay awake and take good notes AND if you aren't a good note taker you can go to the center for teaching and learning and pick up a copy of the notes from someone else who takes good ones (maybe you will get some of mine). Then you have your drawing class and basically you well draw. Besides that you critique your classmate's work and some teachers even let you start your projects in class.
As for math and English make sure to do well on your placement exams in the summer because what they don't tell you is you can place out of the class and will be allowed to take something else. However, I am in Math 1 now and will be taking math 2 in the spring (then I am done with math FOREVER) and its SOOOOOO EASYYYYYYYY!!!! We learned the Pythagorean theorem and other basic algebra and geometry, but if you do have trouble there are plenty of people who can tutor you. And then last but not least English is basically all dependent on the teacher everyone is different. I sit there and take notes and listen to my teacher talk, we don't have any homework, and it’s pretty easy too.
Honestly, college is not as hard and scary as people make it out to be so don't worry. As for the campus it’s a closed one, basically it takes me 6 minutes (yes I timed it once) to get from my dorm to my farthest class. Its a small campus and is easy to get around. Plus we also have the C store which is like a convenient store on campus that you can use your meal plan to buy stuff, like late night snacks, food, drink, and a whole bunch of random stuff. We also have a school store but only buy your architecture kit from there because it is much cheaper.
Everything else you should either go to Utrek (on the corner of Mass Ave and Huntington) or Blick (near Fenway) both of which are about a 10-15 minute walk and if you get the cards you get tons of discounts not to mention they are about half the price of the school store. Oh and if you are wondering how I know the price of the arch kit me and my friends actually went to both store and compared the prices and the school store is your best bet.
As for the food its pretty good we have everything you can think of from soup, salad, a sandwich station, hot meals, hamburgers fries, specialty meals (like sometimes we get sushi) and basically anything you can think of. Fresh fruits, tea, soda, just everything. AND THEN if you still cant find anything that you like you can also go to MASS art which is another school in the Fenway that allows you to eat at there cafe. So if you’re a vegetarian or like organic stuff this is more of the place for you. And then if worse comes to worse there are vending machines in the building, however I don’t think you’d last long on candy bars and popcorn.
Then of course there is the big question of.....what is there to do in Boston? Well HELLLOOOOOOOO its Boston one of the greatest cities in the world there is more things to do than you can think of. There is awesome shopping!!! Newbury Street, Harvard Square, Quincy Market and a ton of other places. Or you can go to a museum I recommend going to some they are actually a lot more interesting than you would think like the museum of science is ridiculous. Also you can go to a club, go out to eat, go dancing, bowling, play pool, ice skating, roller blading, duck tour, dances, parties…. And welll you get the idea. So don't worry there is something to do all the time.
So I think that's about it. I LOVE ARCHITECTURE, and I'm not even exaggerating if you have any more questions, concerns, comments, suggestions, anything at all let me know feel free to email me at Casamentod@wit.edu. OH and I also recommend coming to the women's overnight, I went and I ended up meeting this girl there, and low and behold we met up again during orientation and are now best friends. Hope I helped!!!!
