alot on my plate :)

Hey everyone!

California has been so crazy I haven't had time to write in awhile! I just flew back from Boston for Thanksgiving and I only have 3 more weeks here in California before I pack up and head back to Wentworth- it's been a little difficult to stay on task. Work has been going well and I slowly have been gaining more responsibility. I got the chance to handle my own set of AutoCad drawing and construct a materials board which I then helped present to a client(who really liked the design)! I also was able to help get my fellow SAID (student association of interior designers) member my intern position here for her spring semester. Which just shows that it really helps to get involved in academic groups and get in with the upper classmen in your major :)

I finally finished my orientation coordinator cover letter, after two weeks of hard work, and turned that in. I have my final interview next Wednesday with some members of the Orientation Staff. I hope it all goes well!

Another thing I have been working on is a design for CASA's (commitee for the awareness of sexual assault) t-shirt campain. I designed the t-shirt last year with one of my friends and they were really popular around campus! Hopefully my design will get choosen again this year. It was really a powerful thing to see students wearing a message which you created around campus.

Well as you can tell I have a very busy week coming up! I'll let you know how it all works out! Wish me luck!

busy, busy, busy!

it's been awhile since the last time i wrote...i've been so busy! let me catch you up on what's been going on in my life...

i've been really busy at work- there have been some new projects added and i've been able to do some work in AutoCAD- which is a drafting program used to draw architectual floor plans. I got to design some of the bathrooms for that huge house I told you about in my last blog, so that is really exciting for me!

also- i've decided to apply for the orientation co-ordinator position for next year's orientation team! i've been an orientation leader for the past two years and now that i am a senior and will be graduating in august i think that becoming an orientation co-ordinator would be a really great way to finish my college experience! here is a picture of the 2007 orientation staff...

RED SOX!

RED SOX = World Series Winners!

Sooo awesome to see the Red Sox win this weekend! Pretty much all week I've been sitting around watching this amazing world series! In between though there has been a little time for my co-op :)

This week I had a great opportunity to go out in the field and visit some of the companies clients houses to see the different projects that we are working on. It's great to be able to see some of the products which I research everyday being used out in the field and also to see the firms great designs coming to life. I visted two projects this week, both within different stages of construction. One of the bathrooms my company designed is almost complete- it's just waiting for it's mirror/television to me mounted in the wall above the bathtub- must be nice, right? The other project is in it's first stages of development and I got to help do field measurments on a brand new project we just signed. The place is huge and it took 2 hours to measure it's 8 bathrooms! I've never seen anything like this place in my life. One bathroom is equal to my studio apartment-- what am I doing wrong? haha maybe somedayy....

New Places

In case you were wondering it's still sunny in California! I love the weather out here, it is so different from home, it's like it is summer everyday. I wonder if people ever get sick of it? Well I won't find out because I'll be back in Boston right on time for the snow!

I've done a lot of really exciting things out here so far, I'll tell you about them...

I discovered this really nice hiking spot in the mountains just outside the city. It's called Runyon Canyon. I've been a couple times so far- it's a very relaxing atmosphere after a long week of work. The first time, I thought it would be easy but was really challenging- I guess I must be out of shape because there were people running right past me. It was all worth it to get to the top and see the amazing view of West Hollywood. I also had a great view of the Hollywood sign. I wish there was a place like this in Boston because I would have loved it if all of my friends could have been there with me. I think that's why it is so great that the weather is always nice here, because you don't have to adjust your schedule to the weather.

I also found out that there is a Qdoba, one of my favorite restaurants from Boston, right around the corner from my apartment. It's not the healthiest choice but I defiantly suggest going there with you friends when you get sick of pizza, there's one right on Huntington Ave, in Boston.

The best thing that I have done by far though, is gone to see the Red Sox play the Angeles in a playoff game! My boyfriend got tickets and we got to see them beat the Angeles 9-1. The seats were way up high but it was awesome to see all the Red Sox fans out here in California. I would say about a quarter of the stadium were rooting for the Red Sox. We got peanuts thrown at us every time the Red Sox got a hit and we cheered, but it was defiantly worth it. World Series?

Sunny California!

Hello everyone!

My name is Kaitlyn McKenna and I am a senior here at WIT in the Interior Design program. Although during regular semesters, when I attend classes I live in Boston, I am currently in Sunny California! Through the career center at WIT, I was able to find a design firm in Los Angeles that was willing to sign me on to their team as an intern. So, on September 1st, after completing an amazing 3 weeks as an orientation leader, I loaded up my tiny Toyota Corolla and headed out west. The trip was awesome and it was really interesting to see how people live in other states and the ever-changing landscapes we drove through. I even saw a loose cow being perused by the police!

It felt great to get to California, this is the first time I've been here. I am living right in downtown LA that is really cool. From my window you can see a bunch of really tall buildings, some of them you can even recognize from movies that were filmed here. Work is really cool too. I am working at the Pacific Design Center, which is a major architectural landmark here in West Hollywood, look...

There is also lots to do here, some great restaurants and shopping and some great sports teams! Since I've been here I have already been to see the angels play(they have a great stadium) and I got to see fireworks after the game, which are my favorite. Tonight I am going to see the mighty ducks play at the Honda Arena.

Anyway- I have been here in California for a little over a week and so far I think I made a really good decision to come out here, however I do miss my family and my friends back in Boston, a lot!

Until next time...
