College is about Opportunites

Hey Everyone! Gosh these days keep flying by. I'll be done co-op and back in classes before I know it!

This week at work I've been working on furniture boards for Janice's project. The presentation is going to be next week, so she's trying to get all of the furniture specified along with the fabrics on them. It's a lot to work on since the project is so large! I've cut the furniture pictures out and mounted them to boards. I also cut the fabrics and samples down and made the labels. I took some pictures that I'll post at the bottom of the blog! I love how they came out!

If I had to give this week a title, I think I would call it "The Week of Travel." My family is going to Florida over winter break with my Nana and Papa and Justin, one of my good friends from school. Justin graduated from WIT in 2006. He officially got the time off from work and he and I are going to book his flight and get his Disney tickets this weekend! I'm so excited! We get 4 weeks off from school for winter break. I'm working an extra week, and then going to be in Florida for a week and a half! I won't be home very long, but Maine is quiet at that time of year anyways. It's especially quiet if there's no snow to ski or sled on!

I had to save the best for last. I'm going to Italy and Greece for Spring Break! I've never gone anywhere or done anything special for it. Usually I go home and relax, so this is going to be a lot of fun! One of my other friends from Wentworth is going with me. I can't believe that we're actually going! We signed up last Saturday through the tour company that I'm working for. I figured that it's my last year, and I might regret it if I don't go. College truly is about opportunities, and I'm taking this one!

It's already October?!?!?

This past two weeks have been crazy! It's been a good crazy though. I can't believe that it's already half way through October! Time flies!

Work has been busy with trying to schedule AutoCAD training sessions. I think that we're going to have 8-10 more half days to do for advanced training and clarifying some of our customization stuff. I helped our CAD manager choose times that didn't overlap anyone's vacation or the holidays. It looks like we'll be doing training right up until I'm getting done with co-op. I'm excited that I'm going to know AutoCAD really well!

I also have been working on making a handrail model for Janice, one of the designers. She's working on a project for a new bank headquarters. The building is gorgeous and the interior is going to look fantastic. I can't wait to see it when it's built and completed. The model was a lot of fun to make. I started out making a cardstock and paper one, but that didn't get the profile as clearly as we wanted. So I got to go out and buy supplies to make a foam model! Making the model was a lot of fun. I had to wear eye goggles, a face mask and a t-shirt (instead of my sweater). I looked like I was performing surgery on the model and the whole office got a laugh out of it.

By far the most exciting thing is that I got hired to be the EF College Break Campus Manager for Wentworth. Basically, I work for the tour company to get word around Wentworth about their trips. They have trips to Europe, China, Japan, and even Africa! I get really good deals on it too! If I sell so many trips, then I'll get a free one! I am so excited about traveling! I want to take advantage of it while I'm still in college!

Well I guess that I've talked long enough. Here are some of the model-making pictures that you'll enjoy!

Back to WIT!!!

I can't believe that I'm a senior. Saying it makes me feel so weird. I feel like this place is my home, and my friends here are family. I'm still adjusting to calling myself a senior! I don't even want to think about college ending in less than a year!

This year started off with a lot of fun. I participated in CSLT or Centralized Student Leader Training. About 100 students are chosen to train for specific roles like Resident Assistant, Orientation Leader, Admissions Rep, etc. We go to camp for 3 days and then come back to WIT for 2 weeks of training. Then the new students move in for orientation and the school year starts!

Camp was a lot of fun. We got to go swimming, did a low ropes course, wrote and acted in skits, did team building exercises and got to know each other. It's great to have a strong bond with about 100 of your peers. Everywhere I go on campus I see at least one of them. If you ever do a tour with me at WIT you'll think that I know the whole school by how many people I say hello to! It's kind of funny, but it creates a great community feeling.

After training was over, I started my co-op a little earlier than required. I went back to Financial Concepts in Natick where I also did my junior year spring co-op. It's a small firm of about 20 people and we design banks all over the New England area. This first month or so back has been busy. We're switching our CAD software over to AutoCAD so things have been busy with both training and work! I've also been helping our CAD manager test the layers and been updating the customization on all of the computers.

It's been fun so far. I have more fun stories to share....but I'll leave them for another day. Right now my lunch is almost over and I've got to get back to work!
