Hi, I'm Melissa. I'm from a Trenton, small coastal town in Maine. I went to Mt. Desert Island High School. I chose Wentworth because it was a smaller school, with Interior Design and Division III volleyball. I also wanted to be in a city, but not a huge one like New York City. Boston was doable for me and I'd been to Boston with my family for short school vacations. I visited Wentworth and fell in love with the school at first sight. I went to Open House and decided it was the perfect fit for me. So I applied in November, got accepted by December, and that was that!

I graduated from Wentworth in August 2008 with my Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design. The past five years have been amazing. I can't believe how fast they've gone by. Wentworth made quite an impression on my life.

While in school, I participated in many different activities and clubs. Student Leadership was an important part of my life. I was in WEB (the Wentworth Event Board), on the Community Standards Board, an Admissions Representative, an Orientation Leader and the Editor of the Tekton Yearbook. I also was part of the first graduating class of Sour in Four, Wentworth's four-year leadership education program.

I participated in many conferences including the Wentworth Women's Leadership Conference, the AAUW Women's Leadership Conference in Washington DC and the Institute for Student Leadership Conference in Daytona Beach, Florida. I also went to numerous Wentworth Retreats for WEB, Yearbook and Centralized Student Leadership Training. I feel that I learned just as much outside of the classroom as I did while in it.

I did three co-ops while at Wentworth. My optional co-op was at DiGiorgio Associates in Boston. I worked in the print room on drawings and specifications. My required co-ops were both at Strategic Designworks in Natick, MA. I worked on construction documents, finish boards and selecting materials. I also worked on some 3D custom millwork drawings. Getting hands on experience really helped me in the classroom and on my studio projects.

I also entered a Disney ImagiNations competition with a friend from architecture. Our senior year we decided that we were just going to try it and see where it went. We designed a ride based off of the National Treasure movies. We made it to the semi-finals of the competition. Both of us also received phone calls from Walt Disney Imagineering about our résumés. It was an amazing experience for both of us since we both share the dream of working for Disney someday.

Wentworth gave me a firm foundation for my career goals and for my dreams. I've met incredible people who have become friends, colleagues and family. Over the next year, I am going to be an alumni blogger for the Wentworth Admissions Office. I will share my insights about the transition from college to the "real world" of a college graduate. I'm sure that it's going to be a fun ride, so stay along for the journey!
