Greetings from Wharton Undergrad
Hello world! I'd like to introduce myself as one of the newest members of the Wharton Undergraduate Division. My name is LaMoy Morgan Clarke and I am an academic advisor in G95. I started at the end of July and because things around here are fast paced, it's been a learning curve for me ever since. Even though students are not assigned to an advisor, prospective students and new admits are in contact with me mostly. The best part about my job is that I get to work with some of the most extraordinary students anywhere. While I'm on the topic, I have to give a shout out to the Wharton Ambassadors! I advise this group which provides a link between prospective students, the admissions office, and the Wharton undergraduate office.
Hmm, what else is important to know about me? Well, I'm from the Overbrook section of West Philly by way of Jamaica. (Please spare me your "Yeh mons!" and Miss Cleo impersonations.) I'm a proud graduate of Girls' High and Bryn Mawr College (Class of 2002). This past May, I received my masters from the Higher Education Management program here at Penn's Graduate School of Education. Lucky for me the ink wasn't even dry on my diploma when I accepted an offer to come to Wharton. While I'm no stranger to the Penn community, it's very exciting to be able to get acclimated to Wharton and gain a bird's eye view of what prospective students are dealing with as they try to get an idea of what life is like here. So, in many ways I'm a freshman too.
Wharton is chock full of intellectual rigor, innovation and excitement. This is why, among other things, no two days here are alike which keeps things fresh and new. As crazy as it sounds, I've already started working with my colleagues to update the website for the incoming class of 2012! Outside of work, my life is equally hectic since I'm married and have a three year-old daughter named Jocelyn (see image below). But it's all good. I challenge myself daily to master the elusive "work-life balance".
In a nut shell, I'm picking up where my colleague Tiffany Fujioka left off. Look for more blogs from me soon where I'll talk about my college search experience, the surprising (and not so surprising) rewards of being a member of the Penn community, the importance of living your dreams, and knowing yourself. And I'll share with you some very cool stories about our students and what makes them so unique.
That's it for now. Please post your comments and let me know how I did on my first blog ever!
Best always,
LaMoy
